Chromecast with Google TV (HD) Android 12 - "You don't have an app that can do this" Error

by Wezky5

I have a problem on my new Chromecast with Google TV. The application (John Data Sync for John GBC/GBA emulator) needs access to the emulators folder but when i tap the assign button (to search for it) it does not open any file manager and shows this error: "You don't have an app that can do this".

I've tried multiple file managers, including Mixplorer, but it can't open any of them. I suspect the problem is that the OS doesn't have any file manager setted as default. It doesn't open any chooser and I have no idea how to set it. Maybe from adb?

I don't think it's a permission problem since the file managers do have access to the data folders when i open them. The problem is the other apps can't "launch" or even find them.

Any ideas?
Thank you.

The dev will have to update his app for Android 11+ scoped storage.

If you buy the onn box, it's android 10 but like Chromecast with Google tv and everything including emulators work great on it

It's actually the OS that displays this message so there's not much that can be done about it. Technically, the framework (Storage Access Framework) isn't completely implemented by Google for the CCwGTV, the implementation is just a stub that displays the message and exits.

What's worse is that apps can't detect that the framework isn't supported, and maybe implement something of their own, as the stub is the support.

Any work around to this? This also broke all of my setup.
