Is there anything comparable to ONN box that is actually in stock now?

by jd613a

I finally have a tv with hdmi input in my bedroom 🎉 so I wanted to try out my old streaming boxes. Sadly my 2019 MeCool (previously factory reset when I was planning to sell it) cannot install anything current, so it’s basically useless. My Apple TV gen 3 won’t respond to its remote (was always spotty), so I can’t even connect to WiFi to update it. Even if use Ethernet to update to whatever tvOS it could have before it was deemed “vintage”, it still needs a new remote.

So I looked on here for something in the same price range as buying a new Apple Remote and saw good things about the ONN box, but it’s out of stock in every local store and online 🤦🏻‍♀️

So is there anything else in the $20-30 range that is in stock?

Tivo stream 4k is a last ditch option.

The dynalink is the same basic design as the onn 4k, but with a better wifi chipset. Both are made by askey. But the dynalink is $39.99, not $20-$30, and has a different style remote control.

If you don't need 4K then the HD version of Chromecast with Google TV is on sale for $20 everywhere.

Where do you live? They're in stock in my local Walmart.

Did you try to flash your mecool ? It might work 🤷‍♀️

Just keep checking once a day. They come back in stock frequently.

$40 looks like the going rate currently until, the Onn is back in stock. Chromecast with Google TV and Fire Stick Max are the mainstream alternatives.

More expensive than at Walmart, but it's how I got mine new since Walmart was of course out of stock

Onn. Is back in stock

I got mine literally last week. Ordered at like 2 am when I remembered I wanted to do it. No lie it came that same day before noon. They are pushing that Walmart + right now. My local store had it in. Just order one. It’s worth it’s price and then some

There's a Google TV with Chromecast 1080p only kissel that is going for $20 at Walmart. I only bought it because there are no more Onn boxes in stock. I haven't been able to use it yet so I can't recommend it. It took an update when I first posted it on and connected to WiFi. Now after the update, it won't connect to my WiFi at all.

ONN-estly, I originally praised the onn box. Now after nearly a year of use the remote has become unresponsive strangely. It’s hit or miss. The box still seems to be fine but the remote is dead at this point.
