The onn 4K is probably the best 20 bucks I’ve spent in my life.

I had a firestick for over a year, had updates blocked. Then nfl came back and I wanted to use prime video app for the first time in forever. Next thing I knew, Amazon took away my launcher and forced an update just by getting prime video reinstalled and putting itself as a system app. In protest, I decided to check this 20 dollar holler. All I have to say is wow! I have magisk , and I have all the short cut buttons reprogrammed. Like YouTube button is changed to open smart tube next as an example. I freaking love this thing. I’m no expert with adb. But I learned a whole lot in the process of getting root and removing bloatware and .sh script for the hard coded remote buttons to be disabled. I also tried the lineage os unofficial rom and just had too many network bugs. Official stock recovery and rom + magisk and it’s patched boot.img were a winning combo. It’s almost like a poor man’s raspberry pi for being so versatile yet so simple.

My daily driver is a shield. I'm violently anti-ad, so it's AndroidTv for me (no fire sticks, etc.) Helped my dad set up several fire sticks for himself.

Bought an Onn a couple months ago for a travel device. Absolutely love it. Very decent remote, snappy enough, does everything I want it to do (custom launcher & Kodi), very familiar b/c ATV.

Great little device say at an amazing price. For what I use it for most, it might could be a shield replacement <pause for gasps>. (I mean probably not but gun to my head I could do it.)

It is, right? So much better than ccwgtv and even the remote feels better to hold. I love it

Someone's never been to Tijuana...

If you have it rooted, you can also make the system read/writable, which allows you to replace the android tv launcher with an older, crap-free version.

I have the onn 4K box along with a firestick connected to my main TV, a onn 2K stick connected to my TV in my RV that operates off the hotspot on my phone (2K for less data) and a tivo 4K in my bedroom tv, the onn is hands down the best and most easily customized of the ones I have. I use a "original canine" launcher that eliminates the clutter and ads from the home screen.

What are your reasons for using Magisk? I've never thought of using it on AndroidTV before

Nice - I went with the TiVo android tv for $16 - wally world had. Supports atmos

+1 An amazing value.

Been using it for about a year myself. Only issue is sometimes YouTube stops playing audio but everything else has audio, was doing a reset to fix but also found a task killer app fixed it too. This is a recent development with YouTube and it's not often.

Just recently put a 1TB ssd drive on it and followed Troypoints tutorial on making it act like internal storage, really like the device even more with that upgrade. Hoping I don't have to redo this after every update, but it's worth it and side loading seems to work great too.

I just got mine last week, really amazed with the quality of the product. I haven’t had any issues really, I love the remote, the integration with YouTube TV is seamless and the channel up/down buttons are a plus alongside the voice commands, it’s the closest to cable TV but with YouTube TV. The only bad thing was that it took a little longer to arrive than expected, but it was worth waiting. I don’t really care about the storage issues since I’m only using it for YouTube TV, and for the other apps I use my Roku TV to access them.

Assuming WM doesnt go full in bed with Roku. We might see future iterations.

Love the little guy, they know what sells and how much. I want to see it get updated to ATV 12.

salbast

Does it support the Prime app?

danielmark_n_3d

How did you remap the shortcut buttons? I've tried the TVQuickActions Pro as I've seen recommended elsewhere but it just launches Youtube when I hit that button to select for remapping.

And fully agree, I switched from a firestick 4k a little while ago, got a lemon which made me a little worried about the quality of the onn but my replacement has been amazing. So much easier to deal with

Overall great device for $20, although my family has now had a couple of them where the remote would increasingly keep disconnecting (even with fresh batteries with remote near the box). Only way to fix was to pull power on the box and reboot it. But then it would inevitably happen again before long. I think some percentage of these boxes may have bad Bluetooth radios in them that start failing within months. For the last one we got, I purchased Walmart's extended warranty -- think it was 3 yrs for only $3.

We need here in Europe too.

Interesting-Daikon42

Totally agree Great lil box for a great price and google based

benparkerip

Which model is this and is it also cheap in the UK?

Substantial_Mall3551

Not available to order. Nothing available local. Assume it's all sold out.

DespairedLion
