Non certified Android boxes, are they any good

by tibabrat

looking for a good android box to play 50 gb movies on. I seen mixed reviews for Xiaomi mi box s, Nvidia shield is not in my budget. Chinnese boxes have good specs 4 gb ram and that. But are they any reliable

In my opinion .....NO,
if you are a Netflix user you won't be able to use your account, if your budget is around 50 bucks your options are *Chromecast with Google TV ( Android tv) *Dynalink $35 *TiVo stream 4k $35 *Onn 4k $20 *Onn 2k $15

Chromecast with Google TV with a USB hub with ethernet. You're not going to want to fool with 4k remux over wifi.

I have a box that is not Netflix certified but it allows me to play content but will not not the latest netflix app versions. I dont need 8k or 4k so it works fine with my rig. For the wife I got her an nvidia shield and it plays 99 percent of the stuff out there and I got it for less than $100. The Chinese stuff is just not dependable because if it breaks you cant send it back, they promise ota updates and they never come, and the chips are faked and overclocked so I rather not send them anymore money. You used to get some chinese boxes in walmart but they dont carry them no more.

Mecool is Android certified, km7 is cheap and pretty good

Search CHIGZ Tech Reviews on YouTube, full of android TV box reviews, which test high bitrate video playback.

Onn box from Walmart is $20, is real Android TV, has a killer remote and good performance. I have onn and shield and mi box, onn is my fav.

Or use an older Samsung phone on dex mode. Works great with air mouses very fast but no 4k output. support. I think it does do 3k. Was not able to test if hdmi can push dts or Dolby atmos sound output.

Or any pc with Windows 11 now do have android app compatibility. Not has simple to use but is much more capable. Even output true atmos sounds and dts. Vs with the Chinese android boxes you have to have the correct app. Vlc don’t always work either. You are limited by the processor because older intel chips can’t support 4k. Same with amd.

Or if someone can test the new Motorola phones with their own android desktop mode (dex competitor) and fill us in on how well it works. And if It can output dts/true hd audio/atmos sound. (Any media center should have atleast true 5.1 audio not virtual 5.1 from a 2.1 sound bar imo. Most newer sound bar have 4.1 setups which is still very good. But 2.1 are just half ass)
