Asking for a friend of mine, can he get Google Playstore on this device? Chromecast is unknown to me, I have Amazon devices only, is there any way to sideload apps on Chromecast too? thanks in advance.

No. No apps. Just casting.

No not on that one - you need the newer versions - Chromecast with Google TV:

Nonstopper1209

that the old one! get the "Chromecast with Google TV"

This one you need a phone to cast to it. It doesn’t have a user interface, just a splash screen and you send content to it through your phone.

Chromecast ( the hardware) is dumb doesn't do shit don't understand thier pricing on basically a usb casting stick...fuck that thing get an app if you wanna cast AirShield does ALL the formats apple, miracast , chromecast ALL the shit

The old chromecast is pretty useless imo. You're able to cast from your phone or pc to it but only in apps with chromecast support.
If you're looking to get something with a proper interface and a play store with apps (which i recommend) you should get something like a "chromecast with google tv"
You could get pretty much any official android box and get the same as "chromecast with google tv" but at a better price.
I can recommend a xiaomi mi box, or a xiaomi mi stick if you want something even cheaper but slightly weaker. They have both the user interface with apps and a play store AND the chomecast feature where you're able to cast from your phone.
The "chromecast with google tv" is just overpriced because it's googles own product.

I've never tried a firestick myself but they're supposed to be pretty good as well for it's pricing.

What is his use case? Does he want to stream tv/movies etc or just casting from his phone. Casting from the phone can a inefficient way of doing things. If he wants to do what you're doing then a firestick or Chromecast with google tv will do....and both devices also cast from too, as well as stream.

Hell no, better get a Xiaomi mi tv stick instead
