It goes in and out of stock. Shows as in stock and available for shipping right now. https://www.walmart.com/ip/onn-Android-TV-4K-UHD-Streaming-Device-with-Voice-Remote-Control-HDMI-Cable/636597403
You can find the Onn 4k still, just look around. Or the TiVo 4k. Both are great. Even the Mi Box S -- all run Android TV OS.
What about a used 2017 ShieldTV.? Something to look at. But if you are in the US, you should have any issues finding those first few devices. Just got to look around.
I recently bought Chromecast with Google tv and am quite happy with the UI and performance. I use it on app only mode which keeps all the crap ads and suggestions away. I have less than 10 3rd party apps though so not using it as heavily as some other users.
If you really want the Onn box, Amazon has it for $30. So $10 more than what Walmart was selling it for. This week I purchased the Chromecast and believe me that if you don’t put it in “App Only Mode” it’s laggy as hell!!! The Android 12 update messed it up with so many ads.
As far as GUI, goes, some like it, some don't, most could not be bothered. To me it is just a bit different.
Had a Fire TV 4K and now a Fire TV 4k MAX, was very happy with the 4K Fire stick, and just as happy with the 4K MAX. Despite or in spite of having a 2019 Shield Pro TV.
This is an overdue discussion. Just remember we are talking about a less than $10 difference between devices.
1). Onn Walmart Google tv device $29 on Amazon. Including shipping if you have prime.
2). TiVo stream4k device with app only mode $30
3). Amazon 4k fire stick refurbished $22.
4). Google Chromecast device. $18 in app only mode.
5). Fire stick 4k max $29 refurbished right now.
Liking the ONN Walmart device because with android tv version 10 can sign out of the Google account and gift the device to a relative. But the problem is the device may only last one year. Had mine for that long and it finally started having issues.
The fire stick 4k max is worth the few dollars more given the remote and given the faster response. And refurbished is equivalent, but do buy the extended warranty for a couple years for $5 more to cover any weird long term issues.
On the same boat - trying to find a couple before WM totally discontinue it.
Get anything your budget allows, just make is running Android tv. You will save yourself tons of "side loading". Google Chromecast wRemote is the next best option.
The 1080p Chromecast w/Google TV is selling on Amazon for $18 now.
