I want my Chromecast 4k (googletv) to turn off when i press power

by OldWitchOfCuba

The chromecast device is not turning off when i press the power button on the remote, rather i believe it turns off the tv and pauses whatever is playing. Is that correct?

What i really want is for it to turn off, because otherwise my iptv line apparently is kept open. This is problematic because it allows only one open stream - and so if i open it on my mobile phone my iptv gets locked.

Is it possible?

Nothing really turns off these days. Not even your TV. If it does, how does it respond to remote control input?

But it should stop and exit the current app and switch off the HDMI interface. May not instantly though. Best bet is manually exit the IPTV app before hitting the power button.

It might work if you enable developer mode (clicking 5 times on the build version) and setting background tasks to 0, that way, once the screensaver kicks in, it should kill your IPTV player. You'll have to press home and then back to trigger it manually

I'm afraid it isn't. Like most streamers, CCWGTV is meant to be always ON.

Your problem is specific to IPTV player, which means you need to train yourself and/or other users of the CCwGTV to hit the HOME_button before turning off the TV.

AndroidTV/GoogleTV sticks are designed without any IR-sensors and to use CEC, this can be a problem if you have an old TV without CEC, but how it works is when the TV is powered-down via remote On/Off button a CEC command (Suspend) is automatically sent out from the TV to all connected devices which should sleep/suspend all HDMI-CEC connected devices. The catch is that Chromecast is a Chromecast so it can't ever turn-off because it is designed to be always-on to be ready to receive a Chromecast casting connection over WiFi and/or Bluetooth.

Use r/Tivimate, once you switch off the TV, it will kill the stream.
