Any AndroidTV that supports 192/24 audio over SPDIF (TOSLINK)?

by lutel

I'm looking to buy Android TV box, high resolution audio is one of needs, do you know if any of the boxes support/does not support HD audio?
Homatics Box R 4K Plus
Streaming Box 8000 or 8010
RockTek G2
NVidia Shield (this with USB -> TOSLINK converter I think would support?)

Optical is limited to 48KHz so no device is going to support that resolution. You have to use HDMI if you hope to transmit audio at that resolution.

I am curious but what's your audio source?

I used to use toslink, but it's outdated tech. It's time to buy a new audio system or look into getting a receiver that will convert the audio correctly to your speaker system. Alternatively, an audio system that uses HDMI-ARC correctly. Which is extremely finicky tech. I hate it, but it's either that or a straightforward receiver.

Toslink is limited to 96Khz and the HDMI output on all Android TV boxes is limited to 48Khz by the Android audio driver, except the Nvidia Shield of course.

Why using a TV for that purpose?

What I did:

Minipc Intel NUC (there are plenty of options on the second hand market) Roon software (roonlabs.com) on Linux as music storage, it manages the highest bitrates on Flac or other formats.

A Raspberry pi 3b with a hifiberry DAC hat running HifiberryOS, it is a roon client, Spotify connect client and much more streaming services. RCA or toslink (depends on the DAC hat) to the amp... And enjoy the best lossless audio!
