Can I remotely connect to an Android TV from PC?

by miinbox

I am looking to get a new TV or device for a relative who has difficulty finding channels and favorite shows and selecting movies on demand. I live over 1,000 miles away from my relative and am not always able to find someone locally who can help right away. The key feature is the ability to connect to my relative's TV from my PC through the internet, so that I can change the channel and stream a movie on demand. Are there any Android TVs or devices that will allow me to do this?

I am familar with TeamViewer and Anydesk, but I don't think that these are good solutions to connect to the TV because the ability to connect to the TV may depend on the TV brand/model, and we are dependent on the software in the TV and TeamViewer/Anydesk. I am also seeing way too many complaints about the reliability of TeamViewer/Anydesk to connect to TVs.

Frankly, I am surprised that I have not been able to find a good solution so far. As the population ages, and there are more people with dementia and alzheimers, there is definitely a market to develop easy solutions that will allow caregivers from around the world to help their relatives change the channel and find movies and make other TV adjustments.

I apologize if this is the wrong community - if there is another community I should ask this question, please let me know. Thanks for any suggestions!

I use teamviewer on my laptop to get visual access to their TV, then use teamviewer again on my phone to get access to a tablet or phone in their home, and use an app on that host phone/tablet to control the TV. It works, but it's just ridiculous that it comes to that. They can't operate a goddamn firestick. SMH...

So I do this by: Installing a VPN that connects back to my network (split tunnel routing) Enabling Developer mode Using a combination of ADB and scrcpy

The performance isnt amazing, and you have to setup the device to trust your management PC, but it does the job.

I have a Chromecast with Google TV and I've just installed a Mecool KM2 Plus box at a friend of mine. Anydesk works fine on my CCwGTV which runs Google TV/Android 10 (I can control it from my Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE) but unfortunately I can't get it to work on the Mecool box. I can only see the screen, can't control it. Just wanted to share this info.

So... something like a pikvm, with a special pinhole setup in the router?

Android TV cannot do anything for you.
