Is it silly to buy a Chromecast for an Android TV?

by tropicalsadness

Title. We bought an Android TV with Google/Chromecast functionality built in but we hate the remote and miss the Chromecast remote.

Is this a silly venture? Are there other reasons/benefits why a person might add Chromecast to a tv that already has the feature built in?

I don’t plan on making the purchase if I can’t reasonably justify it, lol.

Pair the chromecast remote to the tv? Might not have full functionality, but if it's just about the remote...

The Chromecast will likely outlive the tv UI or at minimum be updated long before the tv ui

A dedicated non-Android Chromecast can be added to a speaker group while the "built-in" Chromecast in Android TV can't (at least last time I checked), so there are use cases where it's better.

My TV has Android TV built-in I hate it all the preinstalled apps I can't get rid of its slow has 4gb storage I use my Nvidia Shield on it

I say go for it. Chromecasts are cheap and can be used in other TVs. Unless you bought the latest and greatest smart tv, I'm guessing the android tv os built into your tv is running on mostly subpar components that can easily be trumped by a chromecast.

It's what I did as a Chromebook offers more functionality than Android TV and is quicker so there's really no reason why everyone isn't doing the same.

Not silly and also inevitable. Maybe not for teh CCwGTV in particular but a device will eventually be put on every Smart TV.
