Ive been wanting to install bias lighting on my TV for a couple years now and i'm fairly set on a DIY solution like Hyperion as i'm very comfortable with these types of projects.
One big question i'm facing now is: how the heck does it work if the content isn't delivered over HDMI? I used to have a Chromecast with Google TV which i was planning to do HDMI-split on, but now i have a TCL smart TV with Google TV built-in; so i don't use my CCwGTV anymore since all the apps it provided me are installed directly on the TV.
Is there any possible way to export the TV info so hyperion can use it to control the bias lighting?
Secondly, i remember reading that netflix content was "protected" so it couldnt be read by another app, is this still the case? Will the bias lightning never work with netflix?
The apps use now built-in to my TV are:
- Netflix
- Disney+
- Hulu
- Amazon Prime Video
- Jellyfin (for locally hosted content)
As hacky as they strike me, the systems that use a camera aimed at the TV do solve this problem. Haven't tried any of them personally but I saw recently that Govee makes a solution like this called Envisual. Currently $90 at Amazon for 55-65" TVs.
I'd assume latency could be an issue depending on how sensitive you are to it, but it might be an acceptable trade off for something that works with anything your TV displays.
