Has Anyone Tried the non-4K “Chromecast with Google Tv”?

by skywalka22

I picked one up on Black Friday and oh boy is it literally useless. Every button press takes .5 seconds to register, the Home Screen UI is a laggy piece of shit, and even apps work noticeably worse than on my roku stick. Could it still be updating stuff in the background since it’s brand new? I find it hard to believe that a piece of hardware can be this bad but have good reviews

I have it and have had no issues

I have one for travelling and it's performing okay-ish , similar to the 4K version in terms of lagginess. For the price, I'm not exactly complaining, as it does what I need.

I'm pleased with mine

It's also possible you just got a bad one

No, but the 4k one I have still has a pretty slow and clunky menu navigation. Especially once it fires up it'll take a few seconds to update whatever shows it wants to advertise or what's recent. Then it has skippy clumsy animations between apps and whatever you're selecting. When you get inside the apps however it seems to work a little smoother.

Maybe it's a Chromecast thing, but it sounds worse on the lower res model.

Can you try using the remote within the Google TV app and let us know if it's more responsive that way?

My Nexus Player always felt incredibly slow with the remote because the Bluetooth technology sucked, while the app remote made it usable

I just picked one up and have it attached to a very old LG tv (approx 10 yrs old) and have had no issues. The only thing I find annoying is that it takes a few seconds to wake up when I switch to the HDMI port it's on. I see a "no signal" error until the port wakes up but I think that's more an issue with the older technology in the TV than the Chromecast itself. Everything else is fairly responsive like switching between apps or shows/movies within an app. The voice function has a mind of its own sometimes but has worked most of the time.

I am using HD version with TV app and works fine...only issue I see is movie forwarding. Let say you watching movie and some how it got close or shuts off then you will have to watch from beginning again....Also volume up down is random....sometime works and sometime dont.

I agree. I have the Onn 4K version and bought the Google HD version and it was terrible. Same issues. I went so far as replacing the launcher and it was still bad.

It seems google updated to android 12 but the hardware can't shake it.

Return for a Onn 4K same price 2x speed less ads and better remote!

my Chromecast 4k was crap in terms of performance until i got a custom launcher and changed some animation settings

I’ve had them for years and they’re the best, least laggy UI of any streaming device I’ve ever used (Shield TV Pro, appletv, fire, roku, nebula). No lag at all on the remote or in apps.
