Is this possible? I don't have a readily available powerpoint being my TV and was wondering if I could power the Chromecast with Google TV (4K) from the TV's USB port?
Thanks everyone for your recommendations and work arounds but decided to go the Xiaomi Mi Box TV Stick 4K to get around the power issue.
Anecdotally I've tried my CCwGTV on four different TV sets. None were able to power it successfully.
After reading your setup the only thing I could recommend is either using a power bank but that’d require u to charge it probably every day or two if u use it a lot or if ur tv has more than one usb port (unlikely but they exist) you could get one of those old school adapters that combine the juice of two of them and to one female port.
Otherwise idk, I do have to say that some TVs say they only output 1 amp but they actually output more but there’s no way to know exactly, you could connecting an android phone to the usb port and set it to charge only and with accubattery (an app to monitor ur battery) while in airplane mode (to make sure that almost everything going into ur phone charges the battery) to see if u get less than 4 watts or so of charging or less (so it’s limited to 1 amp) or more (it can get more than 1amp) if u get past 5 I’d say it probably can provide 1.5. Bc again, ur phone doesn’t get 100% of the input power to the battery. If u get more than 6.5 it’ll 100% work
Another method is using an usb charging tester (aliexpress has some cheap ones) connect it to the tvs usb port and ur phone to it and see how many amps it reads (it’s not very accurate but thing is as long as it’s close to 1.5 or higher it means ur good too)

it may work but whenever you get a random crash you're going to wonder if the TV's USB port isn't giving enough power to your CC
most TVs will power down the USB port either immediately after shut off or after some time. Do you want to wait for your CC to boot up every time you turn on your TV?

Yes it is possible. I’ve been doing it for over two years now. All you have to do is activate the ability to be charge from the TV by going to developer options first of all turned out bad boy on. Then going down to USB debugging. Turn that on. That’s it you’re welcome peeps. Remember like I said I’ve been having my on all my TVs getting charged for over two years now.
Cannot. TV USB port power output not enough. Connect the CCwGTV to the same socket as your TV with a multi-plug adapter.
