Xiaomi 4k TV Stick - how to set the save file location on flash drive

by reddxue

I've just purchased a Xiaomi 4K TV Stick, and used a Y-OTG cable to be able to give power to the Stick and also give it external storage. All well and good - but my only issue is that I cannot find a way to, for example, save video files from an app directly onto the external storage.

  1. I have the option in the Stick's settings menu to set the external storage as "removable storage" or "internal storage". Either way, even if part of internal storage, an app will only see that I have 5gb of data left instead of 64gb (the flash drive). I note that there are apps which can be moved to the flash drive but then they will perform poorly. My idea was very simple - when downloading I should get an option WHERE to save the files.
  2. Advanced Download Manager would have done the trick, but Google Play says it is not compatible with the 4K Stick. I downloaded the APK and installed it, but the ADM app freezes on the main screen so I cannot go into its settings menu to change the default save folder location.

Any ideas? How should I set the external storage (removable vs internal) and what can I use instead of ADM to be able to change save file location? This would solve the issue. Thanks!

It looks like OP posted an AMP link. These should load faster, but AMP is controversial because of concerns over privacy and the Open Web .

What's your end goal in terms of functionality?

For example, do you want to download some kind of media files (such as games, video, or audio) and have these files always stored on a removable storage flash drive so that other apps can access them?

Or, do you just want to be able to download more apps and have more room to install them, whether on removable or internal storage?

In order to rule out the partitioning scheme being the issue, try fat32 formatting (on removable storage) first in order to see if easier write access is possible. It could be that other partitioning schemes (such as ntfs or exfat) are read only.
