did they stop releasing Android TV games/ports

by yahya_no_1

I haven't seen any new Android tv games in over 3 years

SNK for example is actively porting a good number of their games to android but when checking the android TV side only Garou & KOF98 are there

Even the exclusive Nvidia shield tv games stopped working like Metal Gear Rising & Resident Evil 5(keeps telling I don't have a license)

Did they just leave everything to die?

I can't find any info on this online

The trouble is that while phones have blasted ahead in computing power, ATV has gone almost nowhere. NVIDIA gave it a try with the Shield, but most people are fine with a sub-$50 ATV stick/dongle and even built in ATV isn't vastly better.

No devices = no ports.

The bigger the performance gap between mid-tier phones and TVs, the less chance there is of ports spanning that gap.

Better to get Xbox Series S or maybe Nintendo Switch...

Android TV seems to be getting rebranded/updated/changed to Google TV interface, which isn't really made for anything but streaming. I doubt Android TV games were particularly profitable for most companies anyways.

Hey, developers seem less interested in making games for Android tv. Maybe the profit margin are not that great compared to smartphone users. Mostly people want to use tv just for streaming purposes, which makes it less attractive for developers to port their already existing games. Anyway I found some smartphone games which you can play on Android tv, to use these games you need to connect a gamepad or mouse on Android tv. You can check it out here Hidden Games On Android TV

Reading the comments is really depressing

Bec it's not only the Nvidia shield, but any android based TV has similar issues

At least port older games they support or recently released classic games ports

Example Android TVs can easily run final fantasy 7, Castlevania SotN or KOF 13

I know they work bec I side loaded them using my purchased apk files

They don't run perfect bec they think they running from a phone but framerate is fins

I think its mobile gaming as a whole that is just lacking good games these days. The only thing that gets released are (old) ports and pay 2 win garbage. I haven't installed anything interesting for years. And I'm actively looking for some new stuff to do but its all just meh or trash

Came up with the same thought a few months ago.

It would seem AndroidTV has become a strictly streaming affair.

As a local-computing machine, it is dead.
