How to Shutdown or Turn Off The Prebuilt Android System in a TV?

by HatesBeingSocial

I want to use an existing Android TV as a monitor/display for an Android TV Box. The TV has a 4k display. But doesn't have very good hardware to run everything in 4k. So, I got myself a TV Box that can run things at 4k. Connected it using HDMI. Runs great. Only problem is, the TV's prebuilt android system also runs in the background. I don't need that. I just need the display to run for the TV Box. So, is there any way to achieve that?

The best you can usually do is to check if that particular TV has the option to always turn on to a specific input. Android still runs, but you don't have to mess with it.

You can sometimes sideload an app that will auto run the correct intent to switch to HDMI1 or whatever at startup.

Here is a StackOverflow question that had the correct command to switch HDMI input using intents https://stackoverflow.com/questions/73784319/no-activity-found-to-handle-intent-regarding-android-tv-input-change

If it’s a Sony, you can put it in a Pro Mode to disable most of functionality

If you factory reset a recent Android TV, you can turn off most of the Android OS and use Basic Mode:
