Enable Dolby Atmos passthrough on Android TV box

by Darkprince2929

Hi,

I have a Verizon stream TV Gen 2 (ask-sti6220). I am trying to enable Dolby Atmos passthrough (not TrueHD but the lossy kind) or even 5.1 on it. My receiver reads Linear PCM with auto setting or any setting (in the sound menu).

When I play using my PC, the receiver recognizes the correct audio format. But the same file is recognized as PCM when I use the Android TV box. I have tried direct play using Plex/Jellyfin and local play using Nova player with no luck.

I tried using this guide but now the receiver says Dolby sound for everything, even while playing from youtube. But I can only hear from 2 speakers. https://www.reddit.com/r/AndroidTV/comments/xcnq5z/missing_manual_surround_sound_setting_in_km7_and/

Can anyone help me with any leads that I can try to get the Android box to pass through the correct audio format to get surround?

Thanks in advance.

The product page shows it can pass through Dolby Atmos

Edit Conclusion(for now):

Used the guide and enabled manual switches

  1. Manually toggle on all surround formats: Will pass through atmos/ AC3 and the receiver reads the signal properly. AAC 5. 1 and Stereo are still read as surround (by the receiver). As a result, audio is played through LR only (not desirable as sub isn't used).
  2. Never use surround/Manually toggle off all surround formats: Reciever reads everything as Linear PCM. But the surround is still played as surround, even atmos. (However, the Dolby effect is not as pronounced. Not sure what is happening here) . Even AAC 5.1 is played as surround.
  3. Auto: AAC 5.1 is not played as it says not supported (without encoding ofc). The rest of the behavior is the same as 1.
