I slowly realized that these 2 things are different but I'm not sure how. I believe the usual black boxes you see on Amazon are just Android OS. So what are the extra capabilities you get with Android TV? Seem like it has a specialized launcher and voice commands?

Has anyone successfully installed any Amazon Appstore/Amazon Underground on the Mi Box? I found the one that was listed on #SIDELOADTAG's G+ community as working with AndroidTV but it doesn't install on my Mi Box. I have successfully sideloaded other apps, including Prime Video.

Ever since getting the Mi Box it will randomly cut out. The screen will flash black for a second, media will pause and then the screen comes back and I can hit play and things are normal again(until it decides to cut out again). Has anyone else noticed this? I've got the Mi Box set to 4k60hz, I've tried switching out the cable. It's plugged directly into my TV(using toslink back to receiver for audio).

I cannot seem to add my own images to backdrop? i have tried adding photos to google + photos, downloading the iOS app, but there is no option on there to add my own album, it only has the ability to turn off and on the album streams offered by chromecast/backdrop. Any suggestions?? I am using a Mi Box as my android tv system. My TV also has chromecast built in.

I have had a problem since installing my MiBox where my remote will go to sleep after a while. It is a real pain when watching baseball on Sling as it will come up after a few hours and ask me to confirm that I am still watching. I reach for the remote and go to hit it and none of the buttons work, the only way I can confirm is to open up my phone and use the Android Remote control app. Anyone else seeing this behavior? Is there a setting in the menu I can disable this from dying on me? It seems the remote won't work again until I restart the device.

And it's not the fault of the box. xiaomi has done a horrible job with at least notifying about firmware updates. I really wish there was a place with more info, upcoming, downloads, documentation, etc. Really feels like "hey, here you go - deal with it!".

Has anyone bought the Mi Box from Mi.com? If so, how long did it take to arrive from when ordered? Also, were you hit with any customs/tax by DHL/USPS/FedEx?

Hey all, just got my mibox so far I'm enjoying it, only issues thus far are pairing my PS4 controller. All apps seem to work great, I've tried a couple Kodi builds but I'm wondering what everyone else is using and how they perform on the miBox...

I have an Nvidia Shield that I'm trying to revive. The Shield power LED turns on when it's plugged in, but nothing is showing up over HDMI. I can't get it to boot into recovery, and nothing happens when I plug it in to my computer. Is it toast?

EDIT: So it's connecting to my computer now! The first three times I plugged in the cable it gave me a "USB device has malfunctioned error", and after it connects but nothing actually shows up. Also, it's slow to actually connect. So there's some life! Any suggestions on how to continue?

Hi everyone,

I am currently using a Raspberry Pi with Kodi to play videos on my TV. However, the thing I don't like is that the Raspberry Pi is not powerful enough to decode H.265 videos. So, I would like to buy an Android TV that supports Kodi. I need Kodi since it allows to play videos from an SFTP/HTTPS/Samba server. So, I've seen a couple of posts here about Mi Box. Anybody can tell me how Kodi runs on it? Or is there other devices that would be worth to buy instead?

My father's birthday is on the 26th of November and I want to give him an Android TV. So far the Mi Box seems to have the best price/features ratio but I can't seem to find it being sold anywhere (I live in Portugal). Do you think the Mi Box will be released officially in Europe until then (so I can buy it from the English/Spanish/French/Italian amazon retailer) or should I just give up and buy a Nvidia shield?
