New Episode Alerts

I really wish Google TV would alert you when new episodes of a show you're watching become available. That's something that should be in the "for you" section I would think.

Wallmart Onn tv box / bluetooth keyboard (help)

Hi guys. So I have a wallmart Onn tv box and just bought a bluetooth keyboard. I was able to connect it but the key (del) won't work. I've installed various keyboard apps, including the button mapper but still fail to make it work, also the latter won't allow me to remap that key since there isn't a delete choice available. I don't know what to do. The other keys are fine, in fact, the (back) key goes back as it should and I thought it may do the work but it doesn't either. Please help. Thank you.

Android TV Options for a Ad-Allergic Firestick User

I'm currently on a Firestick 4k streaming device and I'm looking to make the jump to a more vanilla Android TV experience. What are some good recommendations? I know that there is Chromecast and Roku and Nvidia Shield but are there other options people would recommend? I'm overwhelmed by the sheer number of smaller Android TV Box options so any guidance would be great!

Ideally, I'm looking for a device that provides me a lot of the same functionality as my current Firestick 4k (sans Amazon Prime as I know that isn't possible) BUT:

- No ads. I want to buy a device, not a billboard

- Need to be able to easily integrate Jellyfin and/or Kodi as well as support most major streaming services (except Amazon Prime since I know it's not an option)

- Able to sideload apps easily

- If possible, be able to even sideload different launchers (RIP Wolflauncher after my Firestick updated) and maybe even different OS!

- Respects my privacy

- As close to vanilla Android TV as I can get with as little Google stuff as possible.

I appreciate any insight!

Is Hisense still the best option for a budget Android TV?

I had the H8F and loved it despite the laggy UI. My son unfortunately broke it so now I'm back to a 2009 model 1080p dumb TV with a Chromecast. Looking for a cheapish 4K HDR TV to fully take advantage of the PS5 visuals, and would prefer an Android TV since my house is littered with Nest products.

Also, I'm a bit out of the loop, but I'm seeing some marketed as Android TVs and others marketed as Google TVs. Are these essentially the same?

Peacock now works in 4k/HDR

At least it does on both my Shields, I assume the same for all Android TV based devices. The problem is finding 4k content. There isn’t much, but it’s there- be nice if Peacock made it easier to find.

Edit- I noticed the latest build does not output HDR on my Shield. I installed build 3.9.23 and that one works.

What are the exact conditions a TV must meet in order to support "seamless" refresh rate switching from and external Android TV 12 box(eg. CwGTV)?

Case in point: the LG OLED B1 series. According to RTINGS, it does have HDMI 2.1 ports, it is "HDMI Forum VRR" certified, but it's variable refresh rate does not go below 40Hz and it doesn't support "low frame rate compensation". How would this TV act for ~24fps content? Does ATV itself do frame doubling to ~48fps when it encounters such a device or does it just switch to "non-seamless" frame rate switching?

Thank you!

Best box available in germany

Hi!

I am currently running a pretty old Android (6.0.1) Box from china. The box sometimes doesn't boot so I am looking for something new.

What is the best box, that is currently available (not for preorder or something like that)? Would be great if i could buy it with shipping from germany. I don't really want to wait for an import while my daily driver is half broken.

needed features:

  • Ethernet

  • Netflix/Prime Video/Disney Plus

  • Future proof (I'd rather pay more for a device that will be supported for a longer time)

  • I do like privacy, so I'd rather not buy Amazon/Google Products and also not have Google Assistant

  • a good way to get surround audio

Any recommendations?

Prevent Android TV Launcher from switching to new Google TV like UI

How can I prevent the Android TV launcher from switchting to the new Google TV inspired UI? When I uninstall updates and delete data for the app and disable auto-updates in the Play Store, I have the old less intrusive UI but after a few minutes it will change to the new UI anways so this must be some kind of server side update. When deleting the app data again, it will switch back to the old UI, but only briefly. Any way to prevent this?

Is it possible to make Android TV home default start screen?

Hi! I recently purchased a Panasonic tx-55lx650b (2022) with Android TV OS.

I was wondering if it's possible to have the Android TV home as the default input as I turn on the TV? For some reason the TV always defaults to HDMI 2?

Thanks!
