I keep asking myself why someone doesn't make an Android TV Stick with Android TV?

I would be awesome! Like the Fire TV Stick or Roku Streaming Stick. An Android TV Stick with Google Cast support and a USB-C (USB Type-C) for the power input, connecting a usb hub for the power and a usb drive or usb hdd or connecting an Ethernet Adapter similar to the Chromecast with the Power-Ethernet Adapter Google just release.

Those big company like Logitech, Asus, Sony, etc should make one.

So, in a few days I'm receiving my shiny new Shield PRO ATV. I bought it to be able to play Reicast on it, have lots of games installed at once, and have the best Android TV experience available today. In a near future, I'll be replacing my Plex server and add a GTX 970 to also stream games from it.

Besides all of this, is there anything I should know to get the most out of it ? Any recommendations? Any exclusive games I should be aware of? Just mind that Grid streaming is not an option where I live.

Is there any way I can get the audio from apps like YouTube or the normal set top box to my Nexus 5 via the Sony Android TV. I just ordered W95C 43inch and would love that. If not wirelessly then does it come with some kind of audio jack to wirelessly hear it via my phone. Or can I buy a remote to do that!??? Edit: I wasn't clear before....Just want to add that I need it for listening it via Head phones...

Short and sweet; I updated the Google Play Store app to the latest version, since apkmirror.com mixes leanback and regular versions, I didn't notice the file name on the 5.7.10 apk was missing the 'leanback' bit, so, I installed the regular version. Now it won't let me install the 5.5.15 leanback version. I'd prefer that version as voice searches don't pull from the regular version of the play store.

Any suggestions of how i can downgrade or install over that 5.7.10 version of the regular play store, with the 5.5.15 leanback version? There is no "uninstall latest" option or anything like that when viewing the app in Settings > Apps > Google Play Store; just Open, Disable, Force Stop, Clear Cache/Data, Toggle Notifications, and Permissions.

A month or so ago I ordered the GameStop Bluetooth controller in hopes of playing hotline Miami. When I try to use the controller on the game it doesn't seem to work AT ALL. None of the buttons do anything. Has anyone has any luck with this controller on any games? I'm using it with a nexus player.

So I got my shield tv loaded up, system updated to 1.3 I believe, connected my accounts to Netflix and hulu plus. Cool, I'm ready to side load some apps. So i go into the Google play store to get es file Explorer. Um, wat? It just sits there spinning the loading cursor with nothing else happening. Can't find much from searching on Google other than some 2 year old posts about it. I cleared cache and data and forced stopped it just in case. No dice. Restarted the shield tv and still nothing.

Edit: fixed it. Apparently you can't enable unknown services before accepting TOS?

Looking for a bit of help as there doesn't seem to be much discussion about this online.

Getting a new TV, is there any advantage to buying a 1080p SONY Android TV (@$1.7k) or getting a Vizio 4kTV (@$1.5k) and buying the Nvidia Shield for $200?

Basically is there any difference in software between a Sony android TV, and another TV with an android tv box.

Calling the 4 people who actually have a Sony Android TV -- has anyone tried to play GameCube games on it with the Dolphin emulator? Just curious if it's at all up to the task. Thanks in advance for your insights!

Does anyone have this working? I can't install the Amazon shopping or instant video apps on my shield. :-(

I can install a US Instant video app, but it logs in to the USA instant video (which I'm not subscribed to) and won't let me log into the UK.

The built in Google Cast on my Sony 55w800c has problems with high res 60fps youtube videos. The video is way slow and out of sync with the audio. The weird thing is the Youtube AndroidTV app plays those same videos with no issues at all on the same tv.

Also, the "Cast Screen" to the Google Cast from my nexus 4 and 7 don't work at all. It is able to show my phone screen briefly.... but it is frozen and disconnects after a few seconds. All of the above youtube clips and devices cast fine to a chromecast on the same router.

Is the built in google cast inferior hardware wise to a chromecast? The fact that the videos play fine using the youtube androidtv app makes me think the Google Cast is trying to play the wrong stream or something. Hopefully this is fixable via software. Any ideas?

Edit: I uninstalled the Google cast receiver apps latest update and then reinstalled it and cleared all the app data and cache and now it plays videos smoothly. Unfortunately the "cast screen" is still not working. It freezes immediately upon connecting and disconnects after a few seconds.

Edit 2: I just noticed that casting a tab from a windows 7 chrome browser works. So the only thing that doesn't work is cast screen from my nexus 7 and nexus 4. They cast fine to a chromecast so I think the problem is something with the Google cast app. Still hoping for a software fix.

Most set tops don't seem to have enough power to run it well. How does the shield fare?

What is the need for two separate applications? Why not just have a subscriber option under the same application?

I bought a new Sharp 4k set with Android TV (LC-70UE30U) and I'm having trouble getting 5.1 from some apps. The internal DLNA player picks up the 5.1 fine, but the interface is lousy/buggy and Netflix passes through 5.1 but has limited selection.

I've tried Kodi, Plex, and Archos but all of them output stereo to my receiver. I just want a better UI that can handle surround from various formats.

Is this a settings thing or an app maturity thing? I'm thinking maybe I just have to deal with the lousy Sharp player until AndroidTV matures or go with a Shield or wait for the Roku 4?

My setup is Plex Server --> Router --> TV --> Receiver via HDMI

After owning a Shield TV for a week I can't help but want more. I am hoping Android TV becomes the standard in console operating systems. Imagine a device with the power of a ps4 or more. Comments?

I know we can technically still use HBO go via Google Cast, but Jaysus if HBO isnt taking their sweet ass time on this! Anything official that indicates it's in the works? I'm also wondering if Showtime has something baking as well.

Is the Fire TV much more powerful than the Fire TV Stick? What would I be getting for $100 vs $40?

Does anyone have any insight into Google's plans for the live channels app or their handling of free-to-air broadcasts? I would love to have PVR functionality in Android TV, but simple timeshifting would at least be a good start.

I have been trying to get Live TV in Kodi to a state where it works reliably enough to get high WAF but it just seems too flakey to use 100% of the time.

So, when looking through my subscriptions, I used to be able to look at uploaded playlists, but now that's gone and I can only see individual videos. This is annoying since some channels I subscribe to post their content as several videos in a playlist, does anyone know what's up?

I acquired some TV m3u files containing TV streams. I already got them working in Kofi perfectly, but I would love to add it to Live Channels. Is there any app that supports that?
