HBO Now on AndroidTV devices?

Now that they have released a HBO Now app for Android, does anyone know if HBO Now works on any of the GoogleTV/AndroidTV devices?

I keep going back to the roku3 from my shield tv

So, I keep going back to my Roku3 from the Shield TV. I love the leanback experience of the Shield TV and of course gaming if you're into that. Pretty much everything is faster and more responsive on the Shield TV, but content (as we all know) is seriously lacking on the Shield TV by way of native Android TV apps. I know, I know, I could use Kodi for all the things, but it just feels odd going that route when, IMO of course, the "leanback" experience is better designed than Kodi (of course I haven't changed themes or anything, I really don't want to fool with that anymore).

Long story short, I'd love to keep my Shield TV and get rid of the Roku 3 but man, developer and even Google support for the Android TV just seems to be lacking greatly.

I'm paying for several services (USTVNow, SlingTV -- will get rid of this likely, until I can find a DVR addon for SlingTV, Netflix, Hulu Plus, Amazon Prime Instant Video, and use Vudu quite a bit for certain movies too), trying to stay legit and pay for services, you'd think everyone would have a native app for what I thought would be big name platforms, but I guess not.

I'm rambling, and just disappointed, like many of you here. I wish I gamed more, so the Shield TV would be a bit more worth it. Thanks for reading this brain dump of frustration and disappointment.

I ran 3D Mark on my new Sony Bravia xbr-49x830c. It scored a 147.

3D Mark took up so much resources it froze my TV. I had to pull the plug to reset it.

That said, the rest of the experience with the TV is great. It's quick, plays anything I throw at it from Plex, VLC, or Kodi. Netflix, FoxSportsGo, and Mubi work well too. Wish Spotify updated their app to upgrade Android TV.

Android TV News Site

Android TV lacks a lot of consumer interest, and developer interest, and I think part of that reason is a lack of press around this platform.

I think developers would be more willing to port their apps if there was more fanfare around it and an organized community that would be willing to download them.

If I was to start a news site/newsletter that focused on Android TV, apps, and games (including game reviews), who would be interested in reading? Additionally, who would be interested in contributing articles?

My idea is to offer something akin to traditional game news and magazines but focused on this platform/console.

How are you guys sideloading or copying files?

I'm looking for a way to sync a folder on my shield TV with a USB drive attached to my WiFi router and shared via samba (smb).

Right now I'm using ES file explorer to manually copy files, but it would be awesome to automate it. Any ideas?

Thoughts on the Nvidia Grid game catalogue

I've been playing Grid games for a few weeks, with good results providing my internet connection is not saturated. It's easy to imagine game streaming being the way of the future.

While the Grid catalogue provides a good selection of games, most of them are older titles. Games like the upcoming Fallout 4 or Star Wars Battlefront make it near impossible for a gamer to avoid buying a console. Does anyone think we'll start seeing brand new blockbuster games being released on Grid?

Play Store Sale - Android TV Games!

Hi everybody, There's a great sale on the Google Play Store right now for games, some of which work with Android TV! Here's the link: https://play.google.com/store/recommended?sp=CAEIAggDCAQIBQgGCBQIEwgSCBAIEQgOCBwwAFoqCiRwcm9tb3Rpb25fMzAwMTk1OV9wcmVtaXVtX2dhbWVzX3NhbGUQBxgD:S:ANO1ljLE3Mg&c=apps I've played many of these games and all on this list work with the NP: Marvel Pinball - 0.49 - haven't played but works with NP

Valiant Hearts - AWESOME WWI game (puzzle/strategy style) - 0.99

God of Light - 0.99 - haven't played but works on NP

Tetrobot and Co - 0.99 - haven't played but works on NP

Tomb Raider 1 - 0.10 (a Dime!) - Works well, but the graphics are weak, even for Android TV, and the controls are a little tough getting used to. For the money, worth the purchase, even if you don't download right away as the file size may be too big (~350Mb)

Game of Thrones - 0.78 - Haven't played but it looks great. Just haven't gotten to watching the show yet. Great discount though!

NBA Jam - Not sure on price, I already purchased it - Fun mini version of a full sports game. Its be a lot better if there were 2 player local capability on the NP

GTA Chinatown Wars - $1.29 - Fun game with Comic-style graphics. The game is clearly made for touch screens and some parts are a little cumbersome on the controller (Especially the GPS screen)

Goat Simulator - Not sure on price/ I previously installed it - Fun game that is really just silly but still great. If you were holding off now is a good time to buy!

Age of Zombies - $0.13

Almightree: The Last Dreamer - $0.99

Sorry I don't have all the prices or if they're wrong, I'm in Canada so the pricing may be different in US, Europe, or elsewhere!

Just a reminder you can redeem Chromecast offers with Android TV devices as well! Have fun with your free movie rentals.

Just go to chromecast.com/offers from a computer running Chrome and select your Android TV device. Offers should show up as if you had a Chromecast.

I just got a 4K TV and I want to get an android TV box.... any suggestions?

I just got a 4k with a really shitty smart tv interface and I want an upgrade. Right now my friends are singing praises about android TV and it seems like good platform and a worthy upgrade from my chromecast. I'd obviously like to spend the least amount of money possible on this... are there any boxes in the price range of a chromecast with good enough performance to handle 4K video? I don't really care about games/game streaming since my gaming PC is hooked up right beneath the TV with HDMI. I'd be willing to go up to 100 bucks (same range of a ruko, apple tv, etc).

Anyone have suggestions? A lot of the reviews I'm finding are nearly a year old and I'm not sure what's happening currently in the android TV space.

Amazon instant video on Android TV

I'm not sure if this is old news or not, but a method I found is having amazon instant video on your phone ready to go, then using the halauncher apk transfer, transfer the amazon app to your android tv/ set it up/ then transfer the instant video app to your android tv and it should work. The interface is not ideal being that it is made for a touch screen, but it is workable.

If there is a better method, please share.

Live Channels app

I've been waiting with baited breath for this app to expand it's functionality.

In the announcement they mentioned more sources like HuffPo and Vevo among others. It's been how many months though?

Is there anything that works right now other than Pluto.tv and HDHomeRun tuners? Any word on when new stuff will be released?

Can't get my Nexus Player remote to reconnect

I was using the Sixaxis Controller app to use a PS3 controller on my (rooted) Nexus Player, but now the included remote won't reconnect even though the Sixaxis app said BT settings were returned to normal. I'm up to the "factory reset" step in Google's official troubleshooting, but obviously I'd like to fix it without such drastic measures. Any thoughts?

HDHomeRun Extend vs Connect

I'm confused over which HDHomeRun device I need to purchase for use with my AndroidTV box (Shield).

The HDHomeRun product pages suggest that only the EXTEND supports streaming to phone and tablets, while CONNECT requires that you use your computer. However the HDHomeRun View app suggests that both are supported.

Which one do I need to stream ota hd to my Shield?

Anything comparable to the Shield TV?

After doing a lot of research, I've found that the Shield TV seems to be one powerful machine. I have been looking for something to run as an emulation machine, run Kodi, and just be clean and easy to use (for the wife when she wants to use it!). Would this be my best bet? I know the price is somewhat higher than other Android based TVs, would you all say its worth the extra money you have to put in. Would emulators and Kodi run pretty smoothly on this. Also, is there any sort of Tuner that you could run through this for OTA?
