I love being able to use voice search in the youtube app and not have to type things out, is there a way to use it in other apps too, like netflix?

I tried moving files from my Google Drive to the external sd card in ES File Explorer on the Shield, and I end up with a select Sd card "tutorial" that never works. I end up with task failed.. Anyone have a way to write either remotely to the sd card or able to move files from Google Drive to the sd card?

I'm essentially looking for a Plex-like experience, but without the mess of running a server.

I simply want an app that can read my NAS, show me my movies, and pass it to a video player like MX Player when i hit play.

Mizuu used to be perfect, but development for it has stopped..

I would just use Plex, but i can't seem to run a server on my AndroidTV and point to a remote location for media..

I don't want to run a Plex server on the NAS because for one, my NAS isn't very powerful, and for another, my media collection is going to outgrow my NAS soon, meaning I'll need another NAS, but running a server on each NAS seems stupid.

I also don't want to run a Plex server on a PC because that is just a waste of electricity.

I have an old Galaxy Note 3 which supports HDMI out via MHL. I'm wondering if it's possible to turn it into a set top box by installing Android TV on it somehow. I like the Android TV UI of my Nexus Player and thought this would be a good way to re-purpose an old phone.

Has any rooted a shield Android TV yet? Are there any custom roms for the UI?

Every time I move the cursor with my controller to a different app or youtube video, etc. the system female voice reads the entire app name or video out loud. It's annoying and I can't seem to shut it off. I've gone into settings "Sound" and turned off speech but that doesn't stop it. Any ideas how to get this to stop?

I have an outdated version of the Shield Hub thing for grid gaming, and would like to update. Unfortunately, I can't do this direct to my Nexus Player, so I want to download using Racoon. Any chance someone can send me a build.prop so I can register a fake version that I can use to download?

I understand that TVMC is a preconfigured media center based off KODI/XBMC. I am looking to install either KODI or TVMC onto my Shield to play my media files. Does anyone recommend one over the other and is there a big difference between them. I saw someone on youtube install this on their Shield TV and it looked pretty cool but I don't know if it's not as good. I've always been a Plex user for the most part but I want to give Kodi a try for all my media on my Synology NAS.

I was excited to use the Shield for its 4K capabilities but after owning for a week suddenly realize I have no idea what 3rd party players I can use specifically for 4K content.

Not Kodi, not VLC, so... where to go?

Has anyone tried YouTube videos or other video streams on Chrome on the shield? I want to know if full screen is available. Some websites with videos (even live streams such as BeIn sports) work on Chrome but don't have Android app yet. Chromecast is not an option as many of these sites block the Chromecast option. Can't test as I don't have a mouse at the moment (the Android TV launcher in the market doesn't have full screen option). Thanks!

Hi guys, with the android m preview for the nexus player you can now use bluetooth headphones for private listening. And according to an amazon review i've read about the shield remote you can use it with the nexus player.

My question is, would the 3.5mm jack on the remote work on the nexus player now that bluetooth audio is here?

Anyone have an idea? Can't tell from stock view or es.

I have a Shield TV and a ~5 year old RCA LCD TV that served me valiantly through college. The TV is still plugging along, but the Shield, for some reason, is the only device that overscans (the edges are cut off).

There is no way to fix the overscan issue from the TV; I've tried through the menu as well as the 'secret' factory menu and had no luck. But the Shield doesn't give any options to change these settings either.

In stock android, I thought there was a way to adjust screen size on TVs. Has anyone else dealt with/fixed overscan on Android TV?

Can anyone walk me through the process of backing up an Android TV box. I bought a modded one online and I'd like to make sure I have a clean backup just in case something goes wrong, because the person I bought it from was an eBay seller. I'm not really expecting much in the way of support from them.

I'm looking to buy a new TV for my bedroom. It will be used primarily for streaming content from various online sources including Netflix, AIV and other TV streaming sites. I was looking at either the Samsung UE40JU6400 which runs Tizen for its smart features or LG 43UF640V which runs WebOS for its smart features. These are European models. Are there any equivalent televisions which have the new Android TV and which are of similar spec, size and features. I would like to have 4k for future proofing the set as i plan on having it for at least 4-5 years or more. Streaming is my biggest use case as i already said as i don't have the TV connected to any cable / satellite. I also have a blu ray player connected which i will be using often. I would really like a decent Android set as i am quite heavily invested in the android ecosystem already and feel that the ability for all my devices to be linked together easily is very appealing. Price wise my budget is < €800 / £550. If there is a better sub to post this to then please let me know and i'll gladly post there instead. Thanks
