SHIELD owners - is Steam Big Picture streaming working with a controller for you (while in-game)?

Drivers, GeForce Experience and Steam are all up to date.

Whenever I do PC game streaming, my 360 controller and the default SHIELD controller work just fine while in Steam Big Picture Mode only. Once any game is launched via Steam the controller input stops working completely. For both my 360 controller and the SHIELD controller. Even if the controller is plugged into the PC itself (while streaming), no controller input. Yes, the games have controller support; I've played them via controller before while streaming. Controller works fine in games when not streaming (playing locally on PC). Changing from Steam stable release to Steam beta release didn't do anything. This is a recent issue, as I have streamed via the SHIELD before playing with my controllers without any problems. I suspect this just came into effect with the latest Steam update. I do not know if the issue exists on Nvidia's side or Valve's.

2 games I was trying to play are Tomb Raider (2013) and Resident Evil Revelations 1

If the same is happening to you, please report it here:

https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/840613/shield-android-tv/controller-s-no-longer-working-with-pc-game-streaming/

Update:

OK I figured it out, but this led to the discovery of a new problem.

Once the stream was connected and I was in Big Picture mode, I had to go into mouse mode with the SHIELD controller and turn off 'Multiple Controllers' support. Now once I launch a game, both controllers continue to function.

However - the 360 controller doesn't work properly in games. The key bindings are off/out of whack. And for example - in Resident Evil Revelations 1 - when using the 360 controller - without hitting any input - the camera will just spin around continuously. When I start using the SHIELD controller - it stops and works properly (the SHIELD controller works and the camera stops spinning). Also, the 360 Dpad does not function in any game it seems.

Using the Moonlight Game Streaming app on the SHIELD ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.limelight&hl=en ) - the wireless 360 controller works 100% properly in all tested games.

So, it appears the 360 controller does not function properly only when streaming through GeForce PC Games. Hopefully they fix this.

Any luck with Retroarch?

I've been trying to setup Retroarch and when loading a rom, it goes back to the original screen. Trying to use in tandem with Gamesome. I'd rather have one app for emulation instead of one for each system!

Imported the Shield, is there any way to redeem the $30 voucher in the UK?

When I try, I'm told the code isn't valid for my country. Tried using a VPN, but no luck.

If it's not possible, I'll give it and the Google play music code to a random person who posts in this thread with a number between 1 and 100 closest to what I'm thinking of.

What app/apps do you use to show off your new Shield?

Personally, I use the voice search feature to show off the system. I'd like to have some great looking Android games to accompany the other awesome features of the Shield. Game streaming is great, but I want something that runs native that would really impress my techy friends that are on the fence.

Plex Problem with Shield TV

So I am trying to play Interstellar via the Plex App and I am not having any luck. I have Plex Media Server installed on my Synology NAS. The NAS isn't powerful enough to transcode, which is not a problem because my Samsung smart TVs can play the media just fine. However, the Shield TV won't play the file and spits out that the server isn't powerful enough to transcode. I just want the Shield to do the heavy lifting - any advice? This is how the file was encoded: http://i.imgur.com/cMX7Gkp.png

A small tip for Harmony Hub and Shield owners

If you want to control the Shield over Bluetooth instead of IR, add it as an Asus Nexus Player. Works great!

(Use the mobile app to set it up. During setup, where it says to hit the button on the bottom of the Nexus Player, instead go to Settings -> Remote & accessories -> Add accessory.)

Nvidia Shield console owners. I have questions.

Did you buy it because of 4k streaming ability? That would be my only reason for buying. Although I wish roku would say something about the next version regarding this. Is there any word of upcoming 4k streaming services coming to the Shield? I think the only option on it right now is Netflix and YouTube?

The new google play store never loads for me.

I got the new play store when I powered up my nexus player today and now the google play store just gives me the loading spinner endlessly. Other apps have network access. Killing the app via settings and even restarting it do nothing. Cleared data and nothing.

What do I do? This thing is literally two days old.

Ouya Everywhere on Shield TV?

Has anyone been able to get this to work on the Shield TV? I tried sideloading and following the instructions here but get prompted with a not supported message: http://forum.xda-developers.com/fire-tv/general/ouya-store-amazon-fire-tv-t2806575

I know most people dislike the Ouya, but it would add a decent amount of games until the store starts to expand.

Shield TV owners, is there a touchpad on the shield controller?

I read a lot of post talking sideloading apps that require a mouse to use. But then I saw this video https://youtu.be/HPJzkdNkxvk and at 10:30 he talks about a touchpad on the controller. I haven't see anywhere else where this is mentioned.

Alternate Launchers?

The main drawback to Google's Lean-back launcher is that it doesn't show non-lean-back apps, forcing you to access them from the settings. I tried my go-to, Apex Launcher, which worked at first, but at some point it decided not to give focus any more, so I had to plug in a mouse to use it.

What are the best alternate launchers that implement focus correctly for a gamepad? Or should I just resign to using a mouse? (Could I emulate a mouse with the gamepad?)

Nvidia Shield questions about Plex, Kodi & Streaming from a Synology NAS

Quick question I hope someone can answer. I have been using a Logitech Revue for ages primarily for Plex and also streaming my movie library from my Synology NAS Share using VIMU Player to access my network shares on the Synology NAS. Also I really like the Youtube app on the Revue that allows me to see my subscriptions, playlists and anything new on my subscriptions is displayed whenever I first open the app on the Revue. I use this frequently for my children and shows which I have saved for them.

I am looking at getting the Shield since as you all know the Revue is a bit long in the tooth and needs to be rebooted often probably due to memory and Ram issues. I really wanted something with an ethernet connection so I can hardwire it and not deal with WIFI. The Shield seems to meet my needs with this plus it's got a pretty power packed set of internals.

I want to do all the things listed above...that's the most important and playing some old Nintendo emulators would be fun as well. Will the Shield allow me to use Plex? I have been reading that it hasn't been playing well with other Android TV boxes..is this true? Can I use Kodi or some other App to stream movies/children videos I've taken and pictures from my Synology networked NAS to the Shield. This is very important to me. Can I set Kodi or another app up to access my Synology NAS? Also, is the Youtube app pretty barebones or does it allow me access to my playlists and subscriptions and will it display new content in my subscriptions like my Revue does?

One more thing. I have two small children (4 and 10 month's old) and I like to watch movies at night when they're sleeping and I usually only listen through my TV speakers and my Revue will downmix the 5.1 audio into stereo but when it does this I have to constantly adjust the volume due to the fact that when they are only talking I have to pump up the volume but when there is a big crash or action scene the sound effects will be way too loud...so the sound levels fluctuate at extremes due to the downmixing most likely, so I have found it difficult to watch many movies at night because of this issue. I noticed that the remote you can buy separately has a headphone jack that would possibly allow me to plug in headphones in order to bypass the TV speakers...is this correct? This would be huge for me and allow me to not worry about these sound fluctuations when watching movies. Is this indeed how the headphone jack would work...I would just adjust the volume on the remote for the headphones volume?

Sorry for all the questions, but I haven't been able to find these particular answers and everyone on this board seems pretty knowledgeable. Thanks

Why does the Nvidia shield remote appear to have IR?

Just got mine. As far as I know it uses bluetooth or wifi. Yet it appears to have IR. Could we see future universal remote/Harmony usage in future update?

Btw. The remote build quality is superb. Think apple remote but 2.5 bigger and with raised textures for buttons. The lighted mic button and the capacitive volume controls are why we're talking $50. Worth it
