Whats the next best thing to firestick?

Doom is coming for the Amazon firestick. I think it's a matter of time until they won't allow and kick off all the 3rd party unapproved apps. installed on their hardware. Like KODI etc. What is the next best alternative? I have read some posts that say just go buy an android box but they are not all the same.. I have read some really poor reviews. One guy tried 4 boxes until he found one he liked and worked properly. Nvidia shield looks like a winner but they are geared towards gamers. Maybe? I would prefer a set top box only. Suggestions?

What apps do you use to make your Android TV experience better?

I have Plex for my media, Steam Link for games, but that's it. Netflix and Amazon are built in, Youtube too, I use them sometimes, but are there any apps that I could install that would blow my mind about what Android TV can do?

Skystream 3 (Three) Review

Just wanted to post a quick review of my experience with the skystream 3.

First off, it didn't arrive when it should, despite me contacting the company a week beforehand to ask when would be the best time to purchase (I was travelling to a hotel for 5 days and needed to have it delivered it there). Was advised when to make the purchase but it didn't arrive. In fairness, I had ordered a Skystream 3 and a Skystream 3 plus. It was the Plus that delayed the shipment. Customer service were apologetic and nice but nonetheless, it hadn't arrived. I'm living in Europe and was travelling to the US so intended on hand carrying it back on the plane. Skystream then wanted to charge me $25 for postage for the SKystream 3 Plus that didn't arrive, even though I emailed two weeks previous to arrange. Anyway..

So I trialed the Skystream 3 and only 3 buttons on the remote control actually worked and so the box was unusable. I contacted customer care who agreed to send a free remote control to me. Meanwhile, I plugged in a wireless mouse and keyboard just so I could use the box while waiting for the remote control and it crashed between 5-10mins. At first it was just with IPTV service. I'd get 6/7mins in and the box would reset. Then it was happening regardless of the application. I eventually transferred my IPTV app (Smart STB) to my smart tv and it worked perfectly. I would expect the standalone box to be able to handle streaming far better than the standalone tv.

While this was ongoing, customer care were trying to combine the replacement remote control into the shipment of the 3 Plus box AND have me pay the $25 for postage. Bear in mind this package contained a replacement remote control for a faulty unit and a 3 PLus which was promised to be delivered the week earlier but was delayed. I lost it and just told them to cancel the 3 Plus order and I'm sending back the box for a refund.

Really annoyed as it seems like a good box on paper but boy was it a different story when it came down to actually using it. Beware.

I have a question

Need a recommendation on a box please. I have a fire TV and I like it but it's too amazon focused. I want to customise the menu for my apps. I want to be able to use apps like mobdro etc (used to use kodi but not any more - I'm sure there ar better now).

I was going to buy the Fire TV 4k, I love how the remote had volume controls. Any others I should look at? Mi box any good? What else? Thanks.

Does anyone have an experience using USB DAC / Speaker on Mi Box S?

Hi everyone! I have a Kef X300A which connects to my PC with USB. It also has an analog 3.5mm input that I never use.

I'm interested in buying the Mi Box S and wondering if I could use my speakers. Does anyone ever plug a USB Audio device (like DAC or Speakers) to the mi box and would like to share your experience?

From what I gather around seems like Nvidia Shield is the safer choice for me, but to get one in my country means dealing with unofficial importers, meaning warranty claim and support is non existent or going to be difficult..

I guess worst case scenario I could use the analog output of the Mi Box to connect to my speakers..

I'm open for suggestion.. thanks!
