Sorry for the horrible video quality, had to shoot it on an old Nexus 7. Running on a Sony XBR930D, using APKs from a comment by /u/ShitConversationBot.
The end result as you will see in the video is that the sideloaded software is not yet ready for primetime on Android TV. The guide and software are snappy, but the Fire TV APK likely contains hefty video optimizations and reliance on specific accelerators in the Fire TV's firmware and potentially hardware that this Sony TV does not have.
Also, this is not a glitch. There is no audio coming from the stream when it loads.
The good news is that the Android Market version of DirecTV Now says that Android TV support is included (even though it isn't) so maybe they just pulled it for a few last minute touches.

Fox Sports Go was updated a few days, and the only thing that I really checked was video quality to see if they had improved the 30fps.
Low and behold, while messing about with the on screen transport controls I see the PIP options right below the controls. It works well enough, even though the video quality is still not great.

Right now I have my main PC (that I use for gaming, watching movies, etc) set up as my Plex Media Server. I own an Nvidia Shield 16g that I use in the other room to watch videos from my Plex library. Right now, I can't set up my home PC to wake on lan because my desktop is using wifi and that's sucking a lot of power. I have a 4tb external drive that I don't use right now and I was thinking about making that adoptive storage for my sheid and moving all of my media to it from my main PC. I would then manually add new videos from my main PC to my Nvidia Shield over the network and then have the Plex server running from the Nvidia Shield.
The people over at /r/Plex recommended that I post here. Someone mentioned that I couldn't back up metadata or add movie thumbnails, is that true? Are there any issues with my newly proposed setup?
