Cast receiver highly unreliable after Marshmallow update on Nexus Player

The title says it all. Most of the time it becomes undetected after my Nexus Player goes idle. I need to sometimes reboot it, sometimes I need to force stop cast receiver. I've tried factory reset, but that didn't help.

Anyone else facing this issue?

SlingTV seemingly starts at random

Is anyone else having the issue described in the title? It seems maybe when I have nothing playing, like I was distracted in the middle of a Netflix search or when another stream like PlutoTv stops playing this happens.

That is, SlingTv will just start up on the last channel that I was watching.

Shield TV - crazy high open sessions in router NAT

My Shield will from time to time lose all internet connectivity, but still be able to access my local NAS. This has been getting really annoying, and the only fix is to restart my router. No amount of googling has turned up any results near to what my problem is. The closes I've gotten, and seems to be on the right track, is the router's NAT settings for open sessions was the culprit, and I promptly increased the value a few times, now all the way up to 12288.

This seems really unnecessary, but since restarting everything yesterday, I can see that the Shield has 5238 open sessions, which is climbing slowly. Weird, since the Shield is currently in sleep mode, and really shouldn't be doing anything at all.

Anyone out there a networking expert and can help? My router/modem is a Zyxel P-2812HNU.

EDIT: If any Shield owners out there could give some insight into their experience, and log into their router to see how many sessions theirs uses, that would be much appreciated! Would be good with some comparison numbers!

EDIT2 Update: Sessions for the Shield now up to 7558 since original post.

Installed wrong apk. How do you delete it?

New to Android TV, looking for hardware recommendations, thank you :)

Hey everyone, I've been researching Android TVs and I'm fairly overwhelmed with the options. That being said, could you please recommend a good Android Media player for my family?

I will primarily use it for Kodi (Genesis Plugin), and Netflix. If it supports Popcorn Time, YouTube, a web browser, HMA VPN, HBO GO that's a bonus.

I was looking at the Nexus Player, but if there is another media box/player better than the Nexus Player for my usage, please let me know! I am looking for something under $150.

If you also know good websites to buy the media player for cheap, please let me know :) or good apps/plugins!

Thank you so much for any help!

Started with HDHomerun - what's a good next step?

I've come a long way on my cordcutting adventure. Here's where I am so far:

Installed HDHomerun Prime with a cable card - now I can watch cable tv using Nexus Players instead of paying for cable boxes. Streaming is working great wirelessly with an AC router for most things (except for golf - ball jerks across the putting green, and the text scrolling the scores at the bottom of The Golf Channel is too jumpy).

Watching everything else including baseball and football is quite good. I have yet to test out wired performance (haven't got the OTG Ethernet adapter yet).

Also have Netflix, Kodi and Hulu+. Re: Kodi - what addons do you find you can't live without? Seems like most content is lo-def.

So what would be a good next step?

What other apps would you recommend?

Also, is there a path to setting up a DVR?

Debating whether or not to pick up a Shield TV

I'm trying to decide if I want to pick up a Shield TV to replace my Chromecast and stream my PC games or if I would be better off just sticking with the Chromecast and picking up one of Valve's Steam Link devices. The big plus for the Steam Link is that I'd be saving $150, but it's worthless for anything BUT in-home streaming (granted, I could technically launch any app from my PC on it using Steam).

The big questions I have about the Shield TV are:

  1. Can I stream my PC games to it outside of my home network without much set up on my end (i.e. could I just sign in on the device and my PC and be set? Or do I need to fiddle with ports and what have you on my router?)? It would be cool to be able to bring my Shield TV and a few controllers over to my brother's house and have access to my steam games (currently if I want to do this I have to lug the damn computer over to his house - as much fun as split screen Serious Sam and multiplayer Audiosurf is, it just isn't worth it lol).

  2. I've read that it's excellent for Emulators - would it support USB "retro" controllers? It'd be pretty sweet to be able to do 4 player Mario Party or Goldeneye on a 64 emulator using USB n64 controllers. Also has anyone tried sideloading the Playstation remote play app on this? I like to keep my PS4 in our family room for group games (like Rock Band) - it would be nice to not have to tote the PS4 around or wait for no one to be using the main TV to play singleplayer games like Bloodborne.

  3. My understanding is that there currently isn't a watchESPN app for Android TV - is there any chance they'll develop one? That, Plex, and HBOGo are all I really use my Chromecast for (I don't really watch Netflix, but if I do I just watch it on my Playstation).

  4. Is the Shield worth it over other Android TV boxes if I don't plan on using their GeForce Now service or playing android ports of games I already have on my PC? Most of the gaming I'd be doing locally on it would be emulators (specifically SNES, Genesis, N64, Dreamcast, and MAYBE Gamecube/Wii if the android version of Dolphin improves).

TL;DR version: Do I have to be on the same network as my PC to stream from my PC to the Shield? Is it worth it if the only gaming I plan to do on it is streaming from my PC/PS4 and Emulators? Is Android TV App support as disappointing as much of the reviews say?

As I said before, the big advantage to the Steam Link would be pricing, but the device is kinda limited and requires a ton of fiddling on my part to get it stream games remotely over the internet. I'd also imagine since the shield would be connected via Ethernet that I'd get better performance and quality from apps like Plex than I currently do casting from the Plex app on my tablet.

What would you guys say? Is the Shield TV worth the premium price, given what I'd be using it for?

Netflix UHD on Sony XBR850C

So i was looking at upgrading my netflix account to receive 4K content but their support website doesn't list my TV as one that receives 4K. But does list normal 1080p TV which makes no sense and netflix support was zero help. So i was hoping someone here has tried to stream UHD on their XBR850C.

Transpeed M8H

Anyone have experiences with the M8H streaming box? I have the Transpeed M8H S812 4K and I have no complaints...former jailbroken ATV2 user here. Kodi has stopped supporting the JB ATV2 so I have moved on after my ATV2 just wasn't cutting it anymore (buffering HELL!) I know there are other Chinese makers of the M8H such as CTC and I read bad reviews of their version. Just looking for exchange with others who have bought the M8H.

Netflix 5.1 Working as of 10/13

I noticed when looking for a fix for my own Netflix issues with the Nexus Player, that a lot of people had gone back to old versions of the app. For me, at least, the 10/13 update to Netflix fixed the 5.1 surround sound issue, I now get Dolby Digital Plus from Netflix 2.4.0 Build 1032 on my Nexus Player.

I thought that those who had turned off updating because of only getting stereo might want to know.

EDIT: Also of note, I never approved any updates or got any prompt, which I thought Android always did for an update. But I am also on 6.0

Voice search not working Sony 55XBR810c?

Hey guys, so I picked up this new TV Wednesday and set it up today. Man that is a long fucking process now compared to older tv's. Anyway I start toying with if after and get to a area where voice search is active. I couldn't seem to get it to register anything. I'm also wondering where the microphone in is? Do I speak into the remote? That's what I do for Comcast x1 box. Or is the mic ln the actual TV? Do I have to activate something maybe? Also I'm wondering if there's a place that list all Android TV commands. Like does "OK Google!" Work to prompt a search?

Can I downgrade back to 5.1.1/5.0

Hello All,

I upgraded last night to Marshmallow but there are a lot of bugs (including a really annoying one that doesn't let me activate the side menus of some sideloaded apps, like NBC, the CW and Comedy Central). I was wondering if there was any way I could downgrade back to stock 5.0. I just bought the box the other day and I'd rather not start flashing roms and stuff onto it already.

If someone knows a way around this bug that would also be much appreciated.
