I got my new Nvidia shield TV, what are some cool Android TV things I can do with it?

So far I have updated it to 2.1, and then played a couple of my steam games with game stream (pretty awesome so far). My 32gb sd card arrive tomorrow too. I already have a wireless mini keyboard which works great with the shield. I've setup my netflix too.

I have never had an android TV so im not too familiar with it yet, have had many android tablets and phones though. So far I am enjoying it, but what are some cool things I could/should do with my new set top?

So I'm thinking I will root my shield tv so I can set it up with my ps3 controllers, I didn't like the placement of the LT(L2)/RT(R2) triggers, as it was hard to keep two fingers there (one for the top button and the other for the bottom button) because of how far the bottom triggers protrude. Plus I want to be able to play local multiplayer.

Now I want to know what cool games for android run really well on the shield tv + controller. Also I hear people have been doing good on the emulation front as well, what emulator work well with the shield, and some good games to emulate? Also I hear people install this "kodi" and set it up to get free movies and TV shows, was hopting someone could shed some light here for me.

PS-I like RPG games, my favourites being Final Fantasy 1 and any of the Fire Emblem games, I think rpg's with good class progression are great.

Changed my Google account password ... now what? (xpost /r/nexusplayer)

Is it just me, or is there no way to change the password for your google account on the NP?

I changed my Google account password the other day, and of course my phone immediately warned me I was signed out of google and prompted me to re-enter my password. Haven't used the Nexus Player in a couple days, and I went to go play music this evening and nothing would play from my Google Play Music All Access...and then it dawned on me. I never updated my password on the Nexus Player. It never prompted me to do so, it doesn't even say anywhere I'm not logged in - not even when I try to play music, it just simply doesn't play. In fact, the only place I see a problem is when I go to account sync in settings and it just says there is a problem with my account sync.

But, nowhere does it even have a place to re-sign in. I guess my only option is to sign out and sign back in? Seems a little silly if you ask me. I'm starting to get frustrated with how half-baked this platform really is. /rant

WatchESPN App?

It doesn't look like the WatchESPN app (I need it for Monday Night Football), isn't available for Android TV. Is it possible to sideload the Google Play version? Has anyone done this that can provide any comment/feedback? Thank you.

Android 6.0 Update, now no DRM channels

My Nexus Player running Android 5.1.1 was working fine.

Today, my player was updated to Android 6.0 and now HDHomerun View no longer receives DRM channels.

I turned off hardware acceleration - no help. Even rescanned channels on my HDHomerun Prime. I just get the error message "Channel Not Available" for every drm channel.

What's left to do?

BBC iPlayer is now on the nvidia shield (UK)

BBC I player is now showing up on my shield, in the shield hub and BBC news and sports are in the apps list.

They just appeared for me in the last half hour.

None of them seem to follow Google's lean back guidelines, and aren't the easiest to navigate. But something is better then nothing.

Nexus Player - How to install 6.0?

How do I get 6.0 Marshmallow on my Nexus Player? I presumed the OTA update would have come by now, but no such luck. I am ready to just flash it with my computer, which I am familiar with the process with my other Nexus Devices but I don't have a TV near my computer so seeing the operation is tough.

Using the nvidia shield TV remote with a nexus player on android 6.0, can you use the headphone jack?

It is kind of a weird question. I want to use the headphone jack in the shield tv's remote to listen to shows at night when people are asleep. I have a nexus player though, which on lollipop did not support that functionality. Does anyone know if that is doable on 6.0?

Thanks!

Looking for testers for game new to Android TV

I've tuned my game to support Android TV, but it was difficult for many people to test during the beta (since beta releases don't appear when searching on Android TV). I've now pushed the game to Production.

I'm very keen for feedback. You will need a game controller.

The game is WazHack - here it is on the Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.wazhack.WazHack though it should now show up in searches directly from Android TV.

It is a 3D dungeon crawler / RPG / roguelike. It has 8 permanent-upgrade IAPs (one for each pair of character classes, the intention being that most people only buy their favourite(s), but by all means get all 16 classes! ;-)).

Originally written for PCs, I think the gamepad support is very good, and even includes remapping for more advanced players.

Thanks for any feedback!

Just bought an NVIDIA Shield. My volume controls on the controller seem a little hit and miss. Is this normal?

They seem a little unresponsive. Also, how do you get it to just simply mute? I seem to do it on accident once in a while messing with the volume.

EDIT: Apparently mute has been removed. I wish they left it in as an option in the settings.

Issue with Pluto.tv

Is anyone else experiencing issues with Pluto.TV? It starts out fine then after about 30 min of playback everything becomes sluggish to the point the video starts skipping. Controls become locked up and even hiring home on the remote take about a minute to respond. I assume it has some kind of memory leak but am curious if anyone else sees this?

Help with Netflix sound options

I have a Shield TV Hooked up to a receiver (Pioneer VSX-923) and of course TV from there. However, at the moment I only have 2 speakers hooked up in stereo (not 5.1 yet, in due time). I want to force Netflix to always play in stereo (or original format, just the one that doesn't say 5.1 or surround sound), because I've noticed that there's a 5-10 dB gain in volume, or at least noticeable improvement. I've looked through the settings in the Netflix app, but its very limited in options. Google hasn't yielded any good search results. So I'm hoping someone else out there has a similar setup.

Extra info: I have my receiver set up to 2 speakers and stereo mode and all that. The issue is with the source material.

Tl;Dr: want Netflix to play stereo in all shows/movies, can't find settings or if possible.

Using a VPN such as pia via software on Android TV, update?

I did a search and haven't seen much of anything recent in the way of using a VPN on an android TV device. If rather not use the VPN at the router level, and I will be using it mainly through kodi. I saw a pia program for kodi, but it was for openelec only.

Those who sideloaded HBO Now, how is your stream quality?

I sideloaded the HBO Now app this morning after just discovering there is now an Android TV version. The app works fine, but the streaming quality is kind of shit. Whenever I start a stream, the quality is fantastic (I think it's 1080p), and then after about 5-10 seconds, the screen will flicker and the quality drops to a really low bitrate. The textures are really soft, and the edges are very fuzzy. Has anyone else experienced this?

I know for a fact it's not my network, since I have a 60Mb down, and I have a solid 802.11ac connection to my router.

I'm wondering if this may be a side effect of the app being designed for the Sony TV, but I'm just not sure. I keep scratching my head as to why HBO seems to be so hesitant to develop this for all Android TV devices. Are there still some hardware or platform exclusivity deals in place that I am unaware of?

Access TVBox's ext HDD over home network.

So I have a new TVBox, and I was wondering if I can have my USB HDD plugged into that instead of a pc. I know I can access what's on the ext drive via the tv box, but can I also access that ext drive via my network. So I can get on there and add / delete stuff without having to unplug it and plug it back into a pc/laptop?
