Why doesn't the nexus player support auto updating installed apps?

It seems really stupid that I have to check the play store for app updates, why isn't there an option for auto install updates? Have I missed something?

Sideloading a VPN app?

ExpressVPN, for example. Has anyone tried it?

My router doesn't support VPN and my Chromecast refuses to play American Netflix from Canada, even if I'm casting from American Netflix.

I'd prefer to buy an Android TV device over a new router...

ES Explorer has ruined itself for Android TV with newest update

ES Explorer was an amazing tool that let me load USB drives via OTG. With the update they have added an eject button to the left side navigation panel when the USB stick is recognized. The problem is that when you use the gamepad to navigate down to the usb stick and select it, the eject button is activated. There is no longer a way to load the usb stick. I've emailed the dev with no reply - maybe this will some how get his attention

Where are the Android TV-based product announcements?

It's surprising to me that we haven't begun seeing Android TV-based product announcements from manufacturers other than Google in time for Christmas.

As of 1st December 2014 - have any new apps or updates been released via the stock, official, Google Play route?

A simple question, the answer as far as I can tell is no. Have any new Android TV apps been released, or have any updates to the launch apps been released, via Google Play?

Not by sideloading and not by loading apps through the web play store. We are talking official, intended-to-be-Android-TV-apps.

Local multiplayer and humble bundle?

Hey everyone,

I'm looking at maybe getting a nexus player for my kids to use at home. Does anyone know how good the local multiplayer is with the games that are out?

Also, in terms of sideloading, anyone had any success with humble bundle? I have quite the library of humble bundle games and would love to take advantage of them on the TV. On that note, how's emulation on this thing?

Thanks guys!

Best remote for ADT-1?

What are peoples recommendations for a remote for the ADT-1?

I've tried an old Sony NSZ-GS7 remote but it has annoying quirks and it doesn't work for TV volume and power. I've also tried my TV's remote via HDMI-CEC but that is missing the Home key, it can't wake the ADT-1, and you have to tell the TV to send commands to the device each time you turn it on.

Must haves are:

Volume and power control on the TV. Obvious normal AndroidTV usage. Number keys for channels.

It would be nice to have a keyboard on the back and usable guide and info keys. Voice search would be neat but I doubt that exists any where outside the nexus player remote.

Main usage is live TV, Plex, and Netflix.

My unit crashes in the intro play of Sky force each time. Different spots during that intro, but always in the intro. Anyone else?

Edit. Happening in MC4 too. Sucks

Edit part deux: and asphalt 8 too. Ugh. Made it through a level of Leo's fortune at least.

Nexus Player Netflix Issues - Do they occur on ADT-1?

Instead of randomly asking on comments, here's what I'm dealing with.

After I'm done watching Netflix, I go to home page and turn off my TV. Next time I go into Netflix, it just sits there with a grey screen. The only fix I've found for this so far, is to clear data/cache and relogin.

So, first question: Does anyone else's Nexus Player do this? Second: Does anyone's ADT-1 do this?

I'm thinking that maybe it's because of x86 vs ARM. If the ADT-1 doesn't do this, I'm ordering one ASAP. My wife refuses to do this everytime she wants to watch Netflix.

Thanks!

To anyone who has sideloaded apps to the Nexus Player

Anyone have decent experience with sideloading apps like NBC Live Extra, WatchESPN, etc?

I don't have cable, and I use these apps to watch sporting events like Premier League soccer. The apps on tablets and phones work fantastically, with minimal buffer times and few stutters, but casting the screen to my Chromecast sucks, and there really isn't any way around that.

With that said, I assume running those apps directly on a device like the Nexus Player would result in a similar experience to that on the tablet or phone. I know these apps aren't designed for Android TV, but I've heard of some workarounds (Bluetooth mouse provides cursor on the screen for clicking buttons etc)

Has anyone used these streaming apps on the Nexus Player? If so, how was the performance?

Question regarding app listing and usage on the Nexus Player

I remember awhile back at the Google demo, that the more you use an app it will appear first in the app row. This doesn't seem to be the case. Play Store, Play Video, Play Music and Youtube are the first four no matter how much I use the other apps. I've personally been using Plex and Pluto TV quite a bit, but they are still the last apps shown on the screen. Curious, has anyone else's app prioritize to usage?

Why did I think search would search across apps?

Did I dream this? I assumed I would be able to search with my voice "The Matrix" and it would show me options from Netflix, Hulu, Google Play, etc. This is one of the huge drawbacks to cordcutting for me and I was hoping Android TV would solve it - I'm not seeing that.

I have other complaints, but this is my big one.
