Does the Nexus Player play 60fps youtube properly?

I know that the Chromecast I not powerful enough to push 1080p/60fps and I'm wondering if the nexus player can? Also some high bitrate&fps twitch streams suffer from stutter and rubberbanding(cohhcarnage). Does the nexus player suffer here?

Razer Forge TV vs Nexus Player

I just recently got the Nexus Player and with the recent announcement of the Razer Forge TV I am wondering if this would be worth upgrading to already? Any speculation on how much of a performance improvement there will be vs the Nexus player? Also with a USB port on the Razer this makes it very attractive.

Any way to remove Netflix border on 4:3 shows?

I just got a nexus player, and mostly like it. However, I have a problem with the Netflix app: when playing an old show that is 4:3, the app puts this grey-to-black gradient along the sides.

Now ordinarily, Netflix shows plain black bars along the sides. That's how it works in chrome on my pc, the app built into my tv, and even the android app on my phone. So it's odd to me that they made this decision. My concern is that it will cause burn in on my plasma tv if used too often.

Is there a setting to turn it off? I looked, but perhaps I missed it. If not, is there a hack to change it? Barring those options, who could I email that would be closest to the Netflix android development team for this feature request?

edit: I did find that they have a play store email (playstore@netflix.com). I don't know if anyone reads it. I'll update if I get any real response.

edit 2: Did an online chat with someone at help.netflix.com and made the request. The representative said she'd pass my message on.

Ditch other remotes with AndroidTV (Xbox One style)

My Xbox One lets me ditch my TV remote and do the following:

  • turn the TV on/off
  • turn volume up/down
  • toggle mute

Why can't an Android TV device do the same via HDMI-CEC?

I want Android TV to be the #1 computing platform for the TV, but that cant happen until the above are accomplished.

Notes:

  • chromecasting already turns the TV on, so we are at least partially there.
  • I know AndroidTV is so new, but with the above core features this software could revolutionize the TV interface.
  • HDMI-in would be nice too.

Nexus Player - Deleting items via USB IR and Harmony remote

I have a Nexus Player running Kodi and thanks to this post - http://www.reddit.com/r/AndroidTV/comments/2ll0hi/if_anyone_is_looking_for_a_usb_ir_receiver_for/ I purchased an IR receiver with remote and I have programmed the Harmony as a ChinaVasion CVSB-983. All works very well, however the Right Click option, is always based on the centre of the screen so useless to bring up the Menu to allow you to Manage items, and thus remove a show from the library. You can use the mouse controller on the basic remote, and even set mouse controls to the Harmony, but I don't want to use a separate remote, and using the assigning and using the mouse direction buttons is not only annoyingly slow, but 100% not wife friendly. Apparently the "C" button on a keyboard also bring up this contextual menu to allow you to Manage - Remove form library. I added a MCE keyboard as a device in the Harmony, and assigned the C hey to my Guide button, but it doesn't have any response at all. Has anyone figured out a way to delete items from the library with a Harmony remote? Is a Flirc my only option?

Netflix Burn-In Protection

Does anyone know if the Netflix app has burn-in protection built into it?

I have found that when the Netflix app is open backdrop will not activate. There have been multiple times where my screen was on the same screen for a couple of hours, and I do not want to worry about permanent burn-in.

Any retro emulator with good Xbox 360 controller support ?

I have tried RetroArch, which is pretty good, but has a major flaw: there is now way to use the right joystick on a Xbox360 controller.
When I press the R2 button, it acts as if I pressed the C-Up. And you can't re-map it in the menu :(

Looking to finally replace my HTPC with the Nexus Player... I have some ?'s first, however...

  1. I use my HTPC to stream games from my main rig... Anyone have experience with Limelight, and it's performance on the Nexus player?? I would have to switch my gpu though, as I have a 280x (and I'm pretty upset with it. On my second one and still have artifacting issues due to Vram) I also use a Xbox 360 controller wirelessly, not sure how that would play out.

  2. My main rig is also my Plex server... How is the Plex interface with Android TV? I am asking mainly because I would like it to be accessible enough so that my parents can use it easily when they are babysitting.

  3. Should I wait for CES before purchasing? Not sure if there will be another Android TV that will have the same price tag that might have a couple more features tagged on (ethernet, SD storage)

I'll probably have more questions, as this was supposed to be my Christmas present from my wife... The new Gpu would be a surprise to her as I would only get it if I need to, and if I can sell my htpc.

Need help deciding between a Nexus Player or Fire TV?

I have a few questions regarding the nexus player especially from those of you who have had both. I am not heavily invested in either ecosystem so right now I'm still deciding. The problem with deciding is that there isn't a lot of info for the nexus player and I'm having a hard time finding answers. My first question is about sideloading and emulators (Everything maybe up to Dreamcast and PSP): do they run well or better on the nexus player? Is there a site with a list or a way on the play store that tells you whether an app or game is compatible? Minecraft, is it available? Is there any news on a tegra k1 variant of Android TV? Is the game controller better or worst than Amazon's or should I shun both and stick with a dualshock 3?

I don't mind getting an aftv now then getting an Android TV device later when the platform develops further. Truthfully, I mostly want something simple to stream kids shows on Hulu and Netflix for my 2 yr old son but extra functionality would be great. I want to play light and retro games as well. Can anybody convince me to get the nexus player or should I stick with a aftv for now or just simply wait for a better android TV device?

Need help running Bell TV 4.5.4.apk on Nexus Player

Hi!

a client of mine is used to casting a poor low resolution stream of Business News Network to their TVs using the cast function, but it's ugly and sucks. Bell Mobile TV has BNN and it's nice and pretty and HD. I tested on my Nexus 5 in airplane mode, works great. I've loaded the APK onto Nexus Player using ES Explorer (awesome!) but it doesn't do anything when I launch it (same as chrome, nothing really happens) ... Any idea what to do next? Any suggestions for somehow editing the APK to work with the Nexus player? lots of apps don't work well on it yet, edges cut off, pop up notifications going to the background, etc.
