Any way to get non-Android TV games to play on it?

I've got a few games on my phone like final fantasy viii remastered that I don't see anywhere in the play store on my shield tv. It seems unlikely, but is there any way to get them on the shield?

Looking for a decent budget-friendly 43" Android-based TV where tweaking (ADB, etc) is not hindered

I've read that 43" TVs are often rather poor, but that's the biggest size that will fit. I am in Europe and the budget is around €400, and Amazon would be easiest.

I have never actually used a smart TV, and I'm wary, but after, err, several months of pondering, and still not knowing how to actually try a few TVs and see what their operating systems are like... I think I have my mind on buying an Android TV, since at least I already know Android a decent amount, and I've read that most of those TVs do allow ADB access for things like replacing the terrible, spammy launchers they generally ship with one of your choice, or sideloading the apps you want, or disabling pre-installed apps that you don't want as you consider them spyware or anything.

But... while it's great that "most Android TVs" allow this stuff, which ones actually do? What is a decent brand (or even specific models, that would be lovely!) that keeps their Android clean and up-to-date but doesn't mess too much which it and with what the user is allowed to do, without removing options or locking them out?

I've even learned that there are a couple of Hisense TV models with an unlockable bootloader (no exploits, just standard fastboot), which would be ideal, but then nobody has made an alternative ROM for them, so while that's great in theory, I'm unsure it currently helps me in practice.

A bit of an open-ended question, because I'm really not fully aware of the details having never used one of these TVs, so please let me know of any detail that you think a clueless user of older "dumb" TVs might know nothing about, despite most of you here seeing it as obvious.

For example, do TVs these days tend to come with a competent remote control based on, say, BLE, given all the smart stuff they are meant to be doing, or should I still expect just infrared? Will they allow me to connect Bluetooth audio devices like any Android phone would? How is reception of regular broadcast (DVB-T2 here) TV implemented, is it an app, or does it feel more like a regular TV by default and then you can go into the "smart" app-y section?

What is going on with Nvidia Shield TV Pro prices in the EU?

Finally decided to try out one. But when I went to buy it it was a fair bit more expensive than other times I had looked it up. Doesn't it usually sell for around €/$ 200?

It's more like 230-60 at the moment on all the Amazons I've checked:

€247 in Amazon.de

€228 in Amazon.fr

€289 in Amazon.it

€254 in Amazon.es

At those prices it's actually cheaper to pay $60 for shipping and import duties when buying it from Amazon.com at $175.

Although it seems buying from Amazon.co.uk at €207 plus a few € in shipping cost (£179) would be the cheapest option.

Xbox Game Pass unofficial app

Hey everyone! I posted yesterday about the possibility of making a simple Game Pass app for Android TV that functions as a web wrapper for the (much better) webui. Here it is!

I forked the code of an older abandoned project and am trying to update it with some new features. I am currently working on adding automatic low latency support, I have removed the gamepad requirement, so that at least it's browsable with just the remote, enabled it to run on phones, and updated the name and icon, since the older xcloud name is retired.

The usual differences of the web app over the native one are here:
Much better image quality (hence why I think some people would like it on phones)
More Xbox Dashboard like UI
Automatic updates (It's a website in a wrapper, need I say more?)

I have heard the webui has worse lag, but the Android app has awful lag on my Shield TV and this doesn't, so IMMV

ITV App for Android TV

Hello Androiders,

Can anyone tell me what is the official ITV app to watch on Android TVs? Is it ITVx or ITV Hub? I can see ITVx has been rebranded as the all-in-one app, but it does not seem to be an Android TV version.

Issue with IPTV on Google TV?

Has anybody had problems with IPTV buffering every 30 seconds on Google TV?

I literally tried the following for 2 hours streaming straight and not ONCE if buffered!

VLC - Windows Smarters Pro - Windows/Android Smarters Lite - Windows/Android Tivi - Android MYIPTV - Windows

Now as soon as I try ANY app on Google TV, it buffers.

Not sure what can I do to fix this issue or any reason why this is going on?

Thanks,

Xbox Game Streaming native app

Hey everyone, I think we can all agree that the streaming experience for Game Pass on Android TV is pretty awful, and the web experience looks so much better on larger screens.

Out of sheer boredom, I'm making a simple wrapper for the Xbox streaming website and adding in some Android TV specific features like better controller support and being able to load it from the home screen.

Would anyone be interested in me sharing this when I'm done?

Okay everyone, turns out there was already a project that did a similar thing a while ago (thanks u/greenleaf699 for the heads up!), but it hasn't had a new release in over a year. I added a couple of new features, updated the app's icon and name, and will continue working on a few new features (auto low latency being the main one). I want my Chromecast 4k (googletv) to turn off when i press power

The chromecast device is not turning off when i press the power button on the remote, rather i believe it turns off the tv and pauses whatever is playing. Is that correct?

What i really want is for it to turn off, because otherwise my iptv line apparently is kept open. This is problematic because it allows only one open stream - and so if i open it on my mobile phone my iptv gets locked.

Is it possible?

Instead of idling, TV plays Pluto/GoogleTV. How to change this back? (Sony X900H)

I have a Sony X900H Android TV .

Typically I turn everything off manually, but it used to be that a connected device (console, etc.) would shut down if left on too long and then my TV would go idle and shutdown shortly after.

Now when the device shuts down, the TV switches over to Google Play and just plays extremely loud trailers. It completely stops the idle function from turning the TV off. I've set the TV up now to turn off automatically after so many hours, but I would honestly prefer it worked how it used to work.

Is there some way to change this back? I can't find it in any of the menus. The only options seem to be to have it be PlutoTV or Google Play.

TCL 65C635, CEC doesn't work

I bought a new TV and tried to connect my Raspberry Pi 4 that was connected to my previous Panasonic TV where everything worked. The TCL works great but I cant use my remote to work in Raspberry Pi 4 that has Libreelec which only running Kodi (latest software update).

TCL is updated to the last software also (says no new updates).
HDMI control (allows control of CEC devices) - turned ON
Arcsomething option is also turned ON
And, as you can see on the picture [img]
https://i.imgur.com/e5frHSr.jpg[/img] there is an option under "Menus" that says "Allow access and control to the device menus"

I connected the HDMI calbe in HDMI 1, unplugged all devices turned off the TV, turned it on and again nothing.
The thing is that CEC "can" work even in Kodi/Raspberry IF i click on the "Menus" and select/confirm the only available option which is "Allow access and control to the device menus".
That automatically open KODI (HDMI 1) and allows me to use both of my TCL remotes but it shows some remote controller in the lower right corner as you can see in the image

I can use the remotes in Raspberry/Kodi as long as that remote in the lower right corner of the screen is seen. As soon as I close it or use other options that close that remote I cant use the remote anymore. That remote in the lower right corner is visible in all the screens in Kodi, even when streaming content or watching from the connected HDD.
Does anyone have any suggesitons? CEC/TV remotes obviously can work on the TV but something is obviously wrong.
Can anyone help me?

Dolby Vision issues with Onn vs. Google

I just bought an LG C2 and was using an Onn Android TV stick to watch Plex. No issues for a week then out of the blue it stopped playing Dolby Vision. I get Audio (with the Dolby Atmos badge) but no video. I swapped out for a Google Chromecast 4K and it works fine.

I also tried the Onn on another Dolby Vision capable TV and had the same issues. That TV plays DV fine as well using the Chromecast and its own built in Google TV system.

The Plex settings are the same on all setups, there is no transcoding going on.

This leads me to believe it's something with the Onn Android TV stick.

Any guidance would be helpful.

Chromecast HD or Amazon Firestick 4K Max

Hi everyone,

I was just wondering which streaming stick, Chromecast HD with Google TV or the Amazon Firestick 4K max is better given that they are on sale for around the same price at the moment for around $50 on Amazon Australia. I want to get it as a Christmas gift for my parents as they have a 1080p TV with no streaming/ Smart capability.

The specs seem very similar and I've read that whilst the remote for the Firestick is better, as it has Prime Video as a button and buttons for volume control, the Chromecast HD is newer, is more responsive and has USB C so I can plug in storage (e.g. family videos) and a keyboard and mouse if necessary through a dongle.

Thanks for the assistance.
