Android TV on Sony X90J TV crashes frequently.

I have a sony X90J TV for past 10 months and working mostly fine.

But recently when I am watching anything on any app, the system would crash all of a sudden and would load the whole UI again as seen in the picture.

This happens randomly, but lately more often than before.

I removed/disabled all the extra apps, cleared cache of some of the apps I use, but not sure what else to do.

Does anyone have idea what it could be.

Best ATV device for travelling?

I would love to be able to throw a small ATV device in my bag when I go on work trips. Hotel TVs are often shitty, locked to their hotel cable/sat system. But I think it usually is pretty easy to plug an HDMI cable in if I had a source with me.

Is this doable? Anyone do this much? I'm thinking the CCGTV HD at $20 might be a good option for this, but will it work on any wifi? I used to have an OG CC4k, which needed a long setup process every time the wifi was changed, and so it was kind of a pain and I didn't end up bringing it on trips with me.

Audio HD 24/192 + talkback/voiceover. What to buy?

Hello. My father is blind and has a huge music collection (5TB lossless music).

Currently I manage his collection with iTunes in a windows computer. Everything is ALAC. He has an Apple TV 3 connected by wifi in the living room. He can control the ATV easily with voiceover: he can search using only the original remote, and the music is streamed to the ATV by Apple home sharing. The ATV is connected to a DAC by Toshlink and/or using a HDMI to coaxial audio extractor.

Everything works fine, and the system is quite robust/reliable. But the ATV can only deliver 24bit (or 16, i am not sure) /48kHz, no matter if the file is 44,1, 48, 96 or 192kHz. -> I know this because the DAC screen always says 48kHz. The newest ATV has the same limitation.

I am looking for a device with coaxial (ideally) or toshlink or USB (to plug a USB to coaxial) able to deliver 24/192 kHz native + being easily controlled by someone blind using just the remote. I know I'll need something like Plex or Kodi or something similar in the server. But the software must be able to manage HD audio through all the process (not like the home sharing, that reduces from HD to 48kHz at some point).

I don't ever discard cloning the current library in a external disk and plug it directly to the device if it's the only way. But playing HD audio natively and having an simple interface with screen reading is a must. I discard a laptop: probably the best option, but way too complicated for him.

Music streaming services are discarded. He prefer to invest in hardware and keep his music forever rather than a monthly fee.

Any advice for the hardware + software?

TY in advance.

What Android TV Stick/Box should I get?

Hello,

I would like to get an Android TV Stick/Box because my TV is an LG with WebOS which is not really good. I will use it to sideload YouTube without ads, Stremio or Cloudstream and that's basically it. I just want these things to work and be fast. I think I would prefer a stick over a box so I can get a cleaner look on my living room but if a box is worth it more it's fine. My budget is 50-60€. I think maybe the Xiaomi Mi 4K Stick or the Xiaomi Mi Box S 4K or the Google Smart TV Chromecast 4K will do or a firestick 4K?

Thanks in advance.

Problem with Strong Leap S1 Android TV Box

Hello dear people!

I have the Strong Leap S1 Android TV Box. Is a great device, super fast, lots of ports, buuut:

Neither the Microsoft Edge browser nor the XBOX GamePass app, can be installed via sideloading. 😭 Everything else about apps runs wonderfully, only with the two I get the error message "...was not installed." 🤬

Have any of you had this before and know of a workaround? 🤔

Low resolution in apps Android TV TCL 4k

Hello, I am using the translator to be able to write this. I recently purchased a TCL 4k TV, but when using apps like Star+, Disney+, Netflix, Amazon, they all show 480p resolution and I can't change it since there is no option in settings. I know they run at that resolution, and I can't upload it either, even if I put the quality preset in the apps.

Youtube I can force 4k resolution and it looks great, but I can't watch ESPN on Star+ at more than 480p

RockTek RT-G2 Certified Android Box with Dolby TrueHD Passthrough

After seeing u/latinriky78's post, I thought that I should give an update about a similar Android TV box - RockTek RT-G2. This one also has the same set of capabilities as the Homatics Box R 4K Plus. Dolby TrueHD pass through but, sadly, no DTS MA passthrough. My receiver just displays DTS Neural X when DTS HD MA or HR test files are played. Though, I can hear audio being output from the correct speakers.

Both boxes are manufactured by SEI Robotics. They are the manufacturers for the upcoming Nokia StreamingBox 8010 as well. I would expect the Nokia box too to have the same capabilities. Time will tell if these boxes will output lossless DTS HD MA. I really hope they do. Then we would have good choices for certified Android boxes playing Netflix/Prime/Disney+ etc in 4K HDR (the box supports both HDR10+ and Dolby Vision), while at the same time being capable of Dolby TrueHD/ DTS HD MA passthrough. From a video playback perspective these can be real alternatives to NVidia Shield Pro. NVidia doesn't do HDR10+ and that could be a deal breaker for many Samsung TV owners.

These boxes also support AV1 codec and I could see YouTube serving AV1 videos. I assume Netflix too would be doing the same, though I couldn't confirm it.

I was using a Chromecast with Google TV previously and I find the RockTek box much better - especially in terms of DTS audio output. I could never get CCwGTV to output DTS HD MA audio - even when connected directly to my AVR. The video would always stutter.

I am not repeating everything posted by u/latinriky78 in their original review, because everything is the same - except for the branding (I could even see the misplaced comma in the Advanced sound settings menu for passthrough). If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

What does the Surround Sound setting do?

Chromecast with Google TV (HD) Android 12 - "You don't have an app that can do this" Error

I have a problem on my new Chromecast with Google TV. The application (John Data Sync for John GBC/GBA emulator) needs access to the emulators folder but when i tap the assign button (to search for it) it does not open any file manager and shows this error: "You don't have an app that can do this".

I've tried multiple file managers, including Mixplorer, but it can't open any of them. I suspect the problem is that the OS doesn't have any file manager setted as default. It doesn't open any chooser and I have no idea how to set it. Maybe from adb?

I don't think it's a permission problem since the file managers do have access to the data folders when i open them. The problem is the other apps can't "launch" or even find them.

Any ideas?
Thank you.

Onn 4K Streaming Box overheating fix!

I think fix is a stretch and this started as a joke because the box was basically useless after 30 minutes since the remote would be unresponsive. Had this sitting in my basement for 6 months doing nothing until a FireTV Stick 4K died in our guest room.

I popped it out of the case, and just put little stand offs all the way around. Then put it between the shell to keep it off the TV stand and from anyone touching hot parts.

Hilarious to me but totally solved the overheating with passive cooling.

Youtube app requires me to change account signed into Google TV?

Hello all, it seems like this started occurring a month or so ago. I use "Account 1" for my main google TV account. I also use "Account 2" for my Youtube account.

When I opened the Youtube app, in the past it would just automatically put me in "Account 2," like I wanted.

Now, it puts me into "Account 1," when I open Youtube, and when I want to change accounts, it opens the google TV account switcher, instead of the youtube one, and makes me change the ENTIRE TV's account to "Account 2."

This creates significant annoyance because I now have to make 6 different clicks every time I open youtube, and I have to deal with the account switcher every time I turn on my TV. Any suggestions for how to fix? I have the accounts separated for a reason.

I am running Google TV on a TCL - 65" Class 5-Series (model Model:65S546)

Android TV 12 apps only?

Anybody know how to enable Apps Only mode on Android TV? I've got a Sony TV from a few years ago and recently made the mistake of letting it update which dropped me into the new UI which is just beyond frustrating. I've since factory reset my TV back to v8.0 and side-loaded my apps, but there's a few updates I'd like to get but I don't know that they'll be compatible.

rant

And ib4 'but Google recommendations!'. I have 4 apps, that's all I need, all I want. I don't need adverts for other services and I'm never going to rent anything from Google TV/Videos. And ib4 'but G needs to get paid to update', I'm a former Google Employee, I was there when they started introducing this UI by pushing it to users without their consent and I saw the internal comms that were focused more on 'how much more $$ we can make if we create advert space for our clients'. It was never about improving the user experience it was only about how much $$ they saw Roku and Apple making and they wanted a piece. I own my TV, I bought it because it performed a certain way and I don't much appreciate the bait and switch. If it was a chromestick/device that I could plugin/remove, fine, but this is BS.

And yes, I know, username checks out.
