Mi Box S front light

hello! I've just received Mi box S

I'm in Europe and I'm using it with an Adapter because i bought US Version.

I've watched several reviews on youtube showing that the front led light of the mi box S is blue, but mine is only a faded yellow or something like that. Is it supposed to be like this or something happened?

Thank you for your time!

Sony Android TV not responding to local network requests

I am commanding my Sony Android TV via Siri (iPhone + Shortcuts) to switch on/off, start applications, etc.

To do this, I am using some local network requests like...

curl -v -XPOST http://192.168.0.11/sony/system -H 'X-Auth-PSK:XXX' -d '{"id":20,"method":"getRemoteControllerInfo","version":"1.0","params":[]}'

This often works, but sometimes it does not work to switch the TV on, while all the other commands always work fine.

I've investigated sending the requests from the PC at random times when the device was off and I've found out that sometimes it is not responding, so the requests are timing out after a number of seconds.

I've tried then sending a ping beforehand and sometimes the TV started responding, while some other times it took a lot of time (dozens of seconds), but it eventually started responding after I tried multiple times with ping, GET, POST, etc.

The TV resulted being correctly connected to the router with the appropriate IP address all the time (I checked the connected devices on the router control panel).

Why is the device sometimes randomly "sleeping" and responding to web requests only after a random period of time/attempts?

TCL - Android Issues

Hi Everyone,

I wanted to ask a few questions and see if my experience with my TCL TV (65P6US) is the standard or if it is the exception as so far I am not impressed. I settled on this TV based on rave reviews of the US Roku based counterpart calling it the best TV for the money, great performance in both hardware and software etc. It was only when I went to the store that I learned the Aus version uses Android, I was informed that performance would be identical or very close to it.

However the TV is so laggy that if I can avoid using it I will, not the best when you buy a new TV and quickly prefer using a PC screen or your phone to watch a video. Lag can kick in at any level whenever it feels like it, from scrolling down the home page, to going through the settings or using an app...any app. You can scroll and click a button and the delay means you'll see no movement for several seconds then it will do it all at once. Netflix has got to the point of where I do a full hard restart before even loading it to avoid frequent visual pauses (audio still plays). FYI if you are having this issue then this works but it is so frustrating to have to do every single time as it takes a while to start back up. You also risk it going into a seemingly endless boot cycle where you can leave this TV for 5-10 minutes and it will still be at the android startup screen.

The media player app that comes with it is frustrating, I've downloaded several others from VCL to Apex and MX and none seem to play the same range of files or they crash frequently. However the TCL media app, unless I am doing something wrong, frustrates because if you press back when drilled down into files on a HDD it returns you to the very top level i.e. select your HDD or source, rather than just go up one level. This also happens if you are watching a file and then press back, perhaps hoping to go and select another file in the same folder. It also defaults to organise by time rather than name which you can change but you have to do it after every restart and if you do it in a HDD it doesn't change that level of files and if you go back it still boots you out to the top.

(TLDR - Avoid buying any TCL Android TV based product. )

I've tried a few quick fixes I read online, like going into the advanced settings and limiting the number of background processes and lowering animation times etc to try make it snappy but to no avail. I've reached out to TCL tech support multiple times and only had one super non helpful response back. This has led me to the following questions

  1. Are you having a similar experience? If so did you find a solution?
  2. Is there any word on when the new Android update will be rolled out and based on past history what is the average time from being released by google to being released by TCL?
  3. Can anybody speak to the performance difference on Android N to O?
  4. Small one here but if anybody knows how to change the TCL media app to default permanently to sort by name and stop this kicking to the very start whenever I press back it'd be appreciated.
  5. Is it possible to flash the TCL Roku OS over Android? I'd rather take the hit of missing out on Android and some apps but have a fast responsive TV experience.
  6. Is it possible to flash a stock version of Android TV and still have my TV work? I'd guess no but if so that'd be great.

Thank you for any assistance you can provide.

Should I buy the Mi Box S?

So I've had the latest firestick for a while now and while it was nice for my first dabble in Android TV I'm looking to upgrade and also a shield is a little too steep in my country otherwise I'd definitely get that. Here's my questions

  1. I've seen a lot of mibox related questions in the sub due to errors and such and I'd like to know how people using it feel about it and any hiccups they might face
  2. I have a bunch of 10bit x265 content, Will that be a problem since the firestick can't play it
  3. Overall are you happy with your purchase? If you could would you do buy it again?

Thanks :)

Using bluetooth dongle on a box that doesn't have built in bluetooth?

Hey guys,

I found out too late that the box I bought didnt have bluetooth hardware. I ordered a dongle online thinking that i could just plug it in and go, but the box isn't reading it when I plug it into the USB port. I've been googling for hours and can't seem to find a solution or anything saying what I want to do can't be done.

Is there anything I can do to make this work, or am I out of luck here?

Thanks in advance!

Removing bloatware, YouView and keeping UK streaming Apps on Sony Bravia Android TVs

I've seen a couple of posts previously here about speeding up Sony Bravia Android TVs by disabling YouView as well as the 'Featured Apps' and 'Sony Select' app. The trouble with doing this for us UK users is we lose access to iPlayer, All4, My5 and the ITV Hub and I haven't seen this addressed yet. The below links to a project on github who has fixed this by adding links to the above apps into the app tray so if you are in the UK, you can now disable all the Sony stuff and still catch up on Eastenders. Works on my xd8305.

Nvidia Shield vs Fire TV Stick 4K: HLG, Dolby Vision etc. - is it worth it?

I'm abandoning my good old Fire TV 4k (2nd gen) and already have a Nvidia Shield en route to me :-)

Leaving all the extra features and the comparably very good hardware of the Shield aside, I'm wondering if Amazon's current Fire TV generation which apparently supports all there is in terms of 4K video gimmicks is possibly the better choice.

I'm currently a subscriber of Netflix and Amazon Video. Am I missing out of something in terms of video / image quality if I stick with the Shield which only supports HDR?

No mic for Oreo?

I just bought my parents a T9 box and Logitech c922x to chat with our kids. Duo accesses the video perfectly, but no audio from the c922x camera's microphone. Seems this might be related to an Oreo update. Does anyone know how to get audio and video into a decent video chat app on Oreo?

I also bought one of these, which doesn't work either, even with the c922x unplugged.
