How to connect 1TB HDD to an android TV box (T95Z)?

This may be the wrong subreddit so please direct me if theres a better one.

I have a T95Z 2GB RAM 32GB internal storage running android 7.1.2. I am trying to run a plex media server off it but obviously need to connect more storage. I have the plex server running and it works well but can't get the device to recognize a 1TB HDD plugged in by USB with an adapter.

I first plugged it in when the drive still had windows installed and it recognized one small partition. After formatting the entire drive to NTFS, I plugged it in and it didnt recognize. After some googling I realized android doesnt see NTFS but only fat32. After finially formatting the entire drive in fat32 (windows limits it so had to use another program), I plugged it in but still didnt seen it. I then realized that many systems are limited to 256GB. So I partitioned the drive into multiple 100GB partitions, one of NTFS, one of EXFAT and one of FAT32, the rest unallocated... just to see what it may see. Plugged the drive in and it didn't see any of them. More accurately it does see the drive... es file explorer says it's there but pops up and says the device "can

I'm a little lost right now. Anyone have any experience with this? I know there has to be a way!

Mi Box S US version not detecting wifi signal

Hi guys,

I recently got a mibox s from the US as a gift, I live in Europe. First time configured on a dual band tenda(2.4/5ghz, used it on the 5ghz) router to test it, used it there for a couple of days perfectly fine. Yesterday I took it to my other apartment where I plan on using it. Just connected it to WiFi(2.4ghz standard Asus router) and netflix was running in a couple of secs. Today, had to reconfigure the router, and now the mibox won't detect the WiFi connection. Will detect any WiFi direct from a laptop or android phone, mobile hotspot, neighbour's wifi but not my generic WiFi. Tried setting up manually by entering connection name and password, searching for the wifi, passing it on by using the setup wizard on my phone(through the Google app, which prompts me every 20 seconds for the password, doesn't matter if I enter it correctly or not), changed router channel from 1-13 to auto, hard reset the router and reconfigure it 6 times, factory reset the mibox, nothing worked so far. I googled hours for a fix, found nothing. Please help, it's frustrating because it worked perfectly fine until I had to reconfigure the router. I even tried a firmware update on the router, didn't fix it.

EDIT: I plugged in an older router and noticed that the router channel was set to 9. I fired up the Asus one and after setting the channel, the mibox detected it but won't connect. After setting the router to open then back to secured, everything worked like a charm.

Many thanks to everybody who tried to give a solution, wish you all a happy new year!

So you just got a new 4K TV. Now, what to watch? Here are some suggestions

"So Santa decided to upgrade your living room with a 4K TV. Now, you are wondering what you can watch.

You are likely not alone. By the rapidly approaching end of the year, more than three out of 10 U.S. homes (31 percent) are expected to have a 4K TV or 4K Ultra High Definition TV, according to the Consumer Technology Association, an industry trade group. That's up from 16 percent last year. Next year, 4K UHD TVs will be in an estimated 41 percent of U.S. homes, CTA estimates.

4K TVs are a hit beyond the U.S., too. Worldwide sales of 4K TVs in 2018 are expected to hit 100 million, increasing to 230 million the number of 4K TVs in homes, according to research firm Digital Tech Consulting.

Consumers have taken to 4K UHD TVs, first introduced in the U.S. in 2012, in part because prices have fallen. The average 4K TV now costs less than $900, down from more than $4,000 five years ago, DTC says.

Lower prices are just one selling point. Bigger screens with sharper images and richer colors are benefits, too. 4K UHD TVs have four times as many pixels as HDTVs. Those additional pixels make bigger displays look better without degradation of the imagery.

Most 4K TVs can also handle High Dynamic Range (HDR) content, produced so that newer TVs can display more intense brights and darks, as well as more detail in shadows. An additional image upgrade that usually accompanies HDR is a wider color palette producing more precise and rich colors.

More: How to get the most out of your new TV

You will pay a bit more for a 4K TV with HDR, but if you expect to spend a lot of time with your TV, that slightly higher expense will be worth it. (You can still get a 55-inch 4K TV with HDR for less than $500.)

Now, what to watch? Luckily there are several ways to get 4K video on your 4K TV.

• Blu-ray Disc players. The major electronics makers such as LG, Panasonic, Samsung, and Sony all have brought to market 4K UHD Blu-ray Disc players that play special 4K UHD Blu-ray Discs, as well as regular Blu-ray Discs, DVDs and CDs. Player prices start at about $100.

Many experts consider 4K Blu-rays as the best medium for showcasing your 4K TV because of the disc-based medium's quality. Several hundred 4K UHD discs are available to order on Amazon and BestBuy.com, with the latest releases including "Mission: Impossible – Fallout" and "Venom." Prices start about $20 and most also come with a standard Blu-ray Disc and a digital download code.

• Pay-TV providers. There's no regular 4K broadcasts from major networks just yet. But among major providers, Comcast made Winter Olympics events and World Cup matches available in 4K in 2018 as the events played out and those can still be viewed on demand. X1 customers can also stream Netflix, YouTube and Amazon Prime Video in 4K, too, from their cable box.

Satellite services DirecTV and Dish Network – both of which also delivered Winter Olympics and World Cup action in 4K, offer pay-per-view movies in 4K, and each has at least one dedicated channel for other 4K content including live sports. DirecTV has two, one for ongoing 4K programming and another for live sports including regular NBA games and English Premier League soccer. Dish's Hopper 3 HD DVR also has built-in Netflix 4K streaming.

• Streaming services.Netflix and Amazon have been among the leaders in 4K content, with Netflix making "House of Cards" and some other programs available in 4K in 2014. Now, Netflix has more than 100 original series and 100 original films and specials in 4K, DTC says. You will need a Netflix Premium subscription, which cost $13.99 monthly. Netflix also recommends broadband download speeds of 25 Megabits per second for streaming 4K video.

Amazon Prime Video has 70 original series and films in 4K and a library of almost 150,000 licensed movies and TV series, DTC says. Some of those are included in Amazon's library of TV shows and movies as part of the $119 annual Amazon Prime membership as well as free shipping of purchases and other benefits. Others can be rented or purchased.

If you have a smart TV, apps such as Netflix and Amazon – and YouTube, which has a lot of 4K content – may be pre-installed. Your display may also have built-in WiFi, if so it's ready to stream 4K.

Either way, you can connect a net streaming player such as a Roku or Amazon Fire TV device, Apple TV, Google Chromecast or NVIDIA Shield that supports 4K video as a way to get apps with 4K videos. Video game consoles such as Microsoft's Xbox One and PlayStation 4 also support 4K streaming apps.

Several other lesser-known video apps can offer additional 4K options. The streaming service Vudu, which is owned by Walmart, has many 4K movies for rent, as well as thousands of HD movies free to watch with advertisements, too. Fandango Now and UltraFlix are also preinstalled on many new TVs or available as an app. Fandango Now has an extensive library of 4K movies to buy or rent, while UltraFlix has many 4K movies, concerts and documentaries for rent.

Live broadband-delivered subscription service fuboTV (starts at $44.99) also broadcasts live 4K sports events including college football and English Premier League soccer – the service provided World Cup matches and Major League Baseball games earlier this year.

Using Apple TV, you can watch 4K movies rented or purchased from Apple iTunes; Apple will soon have more than 400,000 4K movies available, DTC says. 4K movies cost the same to rent or buy as a high-def version; a rental of recent release "The Meg" costs $2.99.

Google Play has a full slate of 4K movies to rent or purchase. "Mission: Impossible – Fallout" currently costs $7.99 to watch in 4K, while an HD version is $4.99.

There's much more 4K streaming content than even a year ago, said Tom Campbell, chief technologist for L.A.-area retailer Video & Audio Center, which sold the first 4K TV in the U.S. in 2012. "It looks phenomenal, and there's more to come," he said.

Expect to see more live events offered in 4K, too, says DTC's founder and chief analyst Myra Moore. "In 2018 we saw the Winter Olympics, World Cup, and MLB playoff games," she said. "We’ll see more of this in 2019 as streaming services can’t deliver on the promise of high-quality live programming – especially sports."

Questions About Hisense Android TV Model 58H6550E

Hello,

I have a question about the Hisense 58" Android TV from Costco (model 58H6550E). I have used Roku TVs (namely TCL) and I'm very, very happy with them, but I'm thinking of switching to an Android based TV. I have a couple of questions:

- Is there a list of officially supported apps for this model of Android TV?

- I think I've read that you can side load some apps, but they may not function / work / etc due to some type of check that is performed (however, the apk can be modified to get around this check).

- Is this TV easy to root? Also, I believe I read that if it is rooted, an app such as Netflix won't give you 4k content due to something related to Widevine encryption.

Thanks in advance!

STB Emu VOD keeps freezing on nvidia shield - help!

Losing my mind here... I have STB Emu set up on 3 tv's. 1st on a crappy t95u China box and works fine, then on Sony xbr800e Android tv and works fine, lastly on an nvidia shield tv hooked up to a Samsung Tizen tv... Worked fine until 2 weeks ago and now VOD freezes after 2 minutes.

I've cleaned caches, reset the box, reinstalled the app, used both available URL's for the portal, used 8 different media players, adjusted countless settings and read every post I could find... Still can't figure this out.

The speed test in the stb portal says 30mb/s, external speed test notes 100+mb/s.

I stream 4k Netflix from the same box so I doubt it's a speed issue.

Anyone out there have similar problems? Any luck with solutions? I'm 2 attempts away from a padded room... Hoping it's something simple that I overlooked. I'd rather be stupid than crazy.

Thanks,

Michael

Xiaomi Mi Box S (Mi BOX 4) (EU) - Ethernet issue

Hey guys.

Everything is fine with this box except the Wi-Fi connection which is quite slow to stream 4K content. So i decided that i'll buy an USB Ethernet HUB and try the Ethernet connection, but i have two issues.

1.) I activated the developer mode and also changed the USB connection to Ethernet mode, but there still is not any Ethernet option under Networks, only the Wi-Fi. Also, if i reboot the Box, and go to Developer --- USB mode settings --- The USB connection is again set to USB mode, not the Ethernet mode i changed it to, so it seems, that there is some Android 8 bug, that prevents the mode changing?

2.) I bought an USB Ethernet HUB with Realtek 8153 Chipset which simply does not work in a way, that after connecting it to the Box, there still is not any Ethernet option. It might be that this chipset is unsupported? I've read that ASIX AS88179 chipset works on the Xiaomi TV boxes, so i might try it.

But my main question is:

Do someone has this Box with the latest Android 8 update, and the Ethernet is working flawlessly?

Nvidia Shield - Bluetooth Audio Volume

Hey all,

I have had my Nvidia Shield TV a while now and I still can't figure out how to improve the Bluetooth audio volume increments.

Between around volume notch 5 and 6, there is a huge difference in volume. Is there a way to set a volume in between the 2?

Or is there a way to disable the Volume Control on the shield and do it via the speaker only? (Or don't allow the shield to control the Bluetooth volume?) I tried the "fixed volume" setting but this didn't seem to work.

Some insight would be good.

I'm using a UE Boom 2 speaker, so it can get loud and I'd rather keep it Bluetooth connected if I can.

Thanks!

Small Tiny Flash Drive For the Nvidia Shield

Good evening <at the time of writing this>, morning and afternoon to everyone here.

I've jumped and bought an Nvidia Shield 2017 a few days ago, Thanks to this community. I've been enjoying it this past few days. I would like to ask some recommendations for a pendrive that's not too expensive. I was looking at a website by USB.userbench And I sort it according to write speeds. I was wondering if 100MB/s <I was looking at the SanDisk Ultra Fit 3.0> <it's only peak write speeds tho> would be sufficient for the Nvidia Shield as I'll be leaving the pendrive in it forever lol. <Idk if anyone does that> checking reviews on crystaldiskmark shows really slow write speeds for this product. But like, most pendrive makers don't usually put the write speeds on their products which I understand. So I was thinking of getting something in the neighborhood of RM100 <Malaysian Currency> Is there anyone who could recommend me in this price range? I'll use Lazada MY <it's an online shopping website in Malaysia> It's better if it's in a small factor. But if It's small factor compromises it's write speeds. Then I might just go for a normal sized ones. I also would like to know if write speeds actually matters if you're using in the Nvidia Shield. As far as I can think of, the pendrive would only be writing during installing apps, saving games etc, and some other things that I've not think before. Thanks for reading all of this if you've reached the end.

Issue with Sony Bravia, Denon amp + audio out

Hoping someone may be able to help. I have an issue where when using any Android TV apps (such as Kodi), my TV (KD-65XE9005) gets stuck sending a specific type of audio signal (eg PCM) to my Denon amp (AVR-X2400H). The TV and AMP are connected via a single HDMI, and using ARC.

For instance, if I turn everything on from afresh, the TV sends a 2.0 stereo signal to my Denon amp whilst browsing the interface and selecting an app. Sat I choose to open Kodi, Kodi opens and again everything as normal - 2.0 stereo signal.

Then I try to play a video with a 5.1 audio track - the TV sends PCM via ARC and the amp updates to show Surround/PCM.

However if I then close out and open another video file with a 2.0 stereo sound track, the TV continues to send PCM to the AMP (or at least the amp continues to show Surround/PCM). I can hear the stereo track despite the AMP showing Surround/PCM still.

This works both ways and is more of an issue the other way around - TV appears to push out stereo despite my playing a 5.1 movie, all because I have previously watched something in 2.0.

In terms of my set up:

  • TV is connected to AMP via HDMI/ARC
  • Android TV is 7.0 and it tells me there are no FW updates from Sony
  • Android TV settings as follows: ** Speakers = Audio System ** Sound Mode Sync = On ** A/V Sync = Auto
  • Kodi Settings as follows: ** Number of Channels = 5.1 ** Output configuration = Fixed ** Allow Passthrough = On

Basically, tl;dr I can’t work out if Android is sending my amp the wrong signal (it gets stuck on the first one), or if my amp is getting stuck/not updating the display and actually things working normally!

Please help!!

Program new FireTV remote without fireTV device

Hey guys! So I purchased a Mi Box S recently and have been loving the Android TV ecosystem, I'm looking to upgrade to a Shield TV very soon hopefully. I also am looking to buy the newest Fire TV remote for it, because of the included IR controls for TV power, volume, etc. However, I read that a FireTV device is required to program these controls before they can be used on an Android TV. I don't really have the money to afford buying both a shield and a firestick right now, so is there any way for me to program the remote without needing the firestick? Thank you in advance.

Google Play Audio Quality: Highly Compressed?

Anybody else notice that movies on Google Play have terrible audio quality? I'm not talking about surround sound vs stereo. All my rented movies are 5.1 no problem. The issue is that the quality itself is terrible. It sounds highly compressed, like a low quality MP3 from back in the day. When I play movies on Netflix or via my personal library on Plex, the sound is great, so it's not my equipment. I can't find any relevant audio settings in the Google Play Movies app itself, so I'm at a loss.

My key question is if this is fixable or if its just the way it is? I'm a bit of an audiophile, so if this is how it is, I'll be finding another way to rent movies.

TIA!

Short of disabling CEC auto turn on, how to stop Shield from randomly turning tv on in middle of night?

Shield turns on tv in middle of night once a week or so. I thought issue had stopped after we replaced our television recently but it's happening again.

I don't want to disable CEC turn on. Wondering if there's a known buggy app that can cause this?

Edit: Just wanted to share a feature a Nvidia rep made me aware of, which I'm hoping will help me identify the culprit app: "settings - about - status and click on uptime after this happens. We added a feature to list last thing that woke shield"

I used to have a powershell script i log in and run to unlock it through teamviewer but looks like i lost it.

Android TV Remote (iOS) keeps asking me to re-pair

I have the Android TV Remote on an iPhone XR connected to my Nvidia Shield TV.

It keeps asking me to pair my remote with a 4 digit/letter code which is fine the first time. But it prompts me to pair every time I open the app.

The 4 digit code will pop up on the Nvidia Shield while the app just says "Connecting" and hangs. I have to hit cancel in the app and the Shield several times before it allows me to connect and re-pair again.

I tried deleting and reinstalling the app on the iPhone as well as doing this on the Shield:

Settings > apps > Android TV Remote service (system app) > clear data > reboot

Anyone else experience this with the iOS app and/or Nvidia Shield? Any solutions?
