Netflix problems

I'm wondering if anyone has experiences with Netflix not playing on their mi box. Every time I try to play an episode or movie, it plays for a minute, then gives me an error saying "we're having trouble playing this title at the moment." I play the episode on my mobile devices and Netflix plays fine. I try to cast it to my mi box, but no improvement. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app, logging out. Nothing. Is anyone else having the same problem? It's quite disappointing since I'm replacing my Chromecast with this and I use Netflix quite often.

Mi Box in Canada?

Recently discovered Kodi/tv boxes through a friend and would like to get one for myself. Going to the states this month and wondering if I pick up a Mi Box, will it work well here in Canada? I've heard good things and I am mainly interested in using it for Kodi (and Netflix). Don't want to buy one of the cheap tv boxes from China on amazon etc.

Would I need to do anything special to get it to work other than download kodi/add ons? Does it need to be jailbroken or something? I'm not technologically inclined but in watching youtube tutorials it seems like it's fairly straightforward to download Kodi and start watching. (Sorry for my limited knowledge. Not my area of expertise lol).

How can I setup Spotify as a default app?

I just bought a new Sony XBR55X850D with Android TV and so far it has been pretty nice. I'm confused on how to set some app defaults though. When I use the voice controls to say "Play -artist name-", I'd like it to use Spotify and not default to YouTube. I can't find anywhere to set defaults, however when I go to the specific App settings it only allows me to clear defaults. Any clue?

MiBox - learn from my pain.

If you're considering buying a Mi Box, buy it from Walmart - not from mi.com. That way, if it doesn't operate correctly, you can swap it out easily.

Xiaomi's service/support is horrendous. I've spent four days trying to get an authorisation to return the device. Their support chat doesn't know how to do it and refered me to their support email, who after nearly three days finally told me to make a claim on their website - except that their website doesn't actually allow you to create a request. For the past 24 hours I've been trying to get them to understand that there is a server error on the website, only having them tell me to try different browsers. I've tried four different browsers, and funnily enough, the server error is still there.

I still haven't got authorisation.

So, just for your own sanity, buy it from Walmart.

Video stuttering/dropped frames on Mi Box

Is anyone else seeing video streams stutter or jerk often on their Mi Box, as though frames are being dropped or the video stream is freezing for a split-second and then resuming? I see this every time I stream video in Hulu, Netflix, YouTube, Plex, etc. in HD or SD. (I haven't streamed anything in UHD.) Some streams seem to be worse than others; it may happen a few times in the course of a minute and other times it may go minutes in between doing it. Multiple times I've rewound the video stream to see if the glitch would repeat. Sometimes it doesn't at all, sometimes it glitches again at the same moment but slightly less noticeably. I have the Mi Box set to output everything at 1080p60.

This isn't a bandwidth issue as I have 30 Mbps download speeds and very strong wifi, with the router very close to the Mi Box. Moreover, I do not see this issue at all using the same apps on other devices, such as an Apple TV 3 on the same network and TV.

I'm curious if this is a widespread problem with the video processing ability of the Mi Box or just a bug with my particular unit. I had been experiencing lots of other significant problems with it earlier (including total system crashes) but those problems seems to have cleared up after I did a full factory data reset and set up everything again.

Can I (and Should I) put Android TV on a Minix box?

Hey /r/AndroidTV!

I'm trying to get the hang of this stuff, so bear with me.

I was given a Minix Android box. When I search for its model name, this one comes up. They're not the same, but they're close. Mine's more "industrial" is the best way I can put it.

I was also given the software and procedures for flashing this box!

So--as I understand it--Firmware (or "custom firmware") is a lot like operating systems for PCs and they're technically able to be flashed onto any given Android device. You normally want firmware tailored to your device to make sure stuff like calls and bluetooth and whatnot work, but I digress.

Am I able to put Android TV on my box? Should I put it on my box?

Are there individual pieces of Android TV that I can take and install on my device? I have read that it has its own launcher and its own casting features, are either of those packaged as "apps?" Or could I install them as packages while in the startup firmware menu?

Live Channels - Channel Organization

So I've been told that you cannot renumber channels within Live Channels (this should be a feature if any devs are listening), but it also seems that I can't even reorder them by manipulating their channel numbers in their source app.

Ex: I made channel 600 in the CumulusTV app. In live channels it is listed as Channel 600 but is the first channel in the list.

Is there a way to make the channel guide sort by channel number instead of channel source? I hate how my channel guide goes 600, 3, 4, 100, 150, 650...

Hey there I used the Acces Folders on PC in the past, since the last update the feature doesnt show up proper.

I read the trubbleshooting page where it says "install plex media". I did - still nothing happens.

Mi Box Google Cast issues

I tried 3 Mi Boxes and all had issues streaming videos via Google Cast. 4K, 1080p, 720p videos all had audio and video sync issues. 4K and 1080p were so bad the video would play in slow motion. I returned it, and tried two other boxes, all had the same issue.

I have a Vizio 55" 4K TV. It's so disappointing, the Mi Box worked well otherwise. I installed the firmware update on each also, but did not fix the issue. Hopefully it gets fixed soon.

Some background info. I've tried casting from a Nexus 6, 6P and Moto X, same issue. My internet speeds range in the 300-350mbps download, 5-10upload. This was around the first week of October, don't know if Google Cast has had an update since then.

Shield TV Owners, how responsive is your interface?

I suspect that my Shield TV may have a problem. The interface is always pretty laggy and I have been troubleshooting playback issues in Plex and Kodi for months.

Below is a summary of my experience, can you tell me if this is consistent with yours?

  • Boot - swirly logo plays for 30-45 sec, leanback screen appears and another 15-30 seconds before icons appear, navigation is laggy for first 30 seconds or so
  • Loading app - Google apps take 20-40 sec to load often showing a background image for a while before any icons or menu items. Navigation is laggy for a while after app loads.
  • Closing app - some apps take quite some time before they fully shut down and return to the leanback screen. The fastest is about 10 sec and the slowest around 40 sec.
  • Navigation lags for a few seconds occasionally even after it has caught up.

Thanks!

[UPDATE] My Shield TV is now completely dead. Green power light comes on but no video. I tried doing the USB/power on/hold button reset and it didnt work. NVIDIA has me doing some long idle test (unplug HDMI, plug controller via USB, power on, press A every few sec for 5 min then let it sit for 15-20min, then try HDMI to see if any video). We'll see if that helps.

[Update2] NVIDIA is replacing my Shield Pro even though it is past the warranty period. I have to say that I am very happy with their support!

[Update3] New Shield TV arrived it is much faster than the old one. There was definitely something wrong with the old unit. No noticeable lag at all now. Extremely happy now!

Bravia:control receiver via TV's remote

Hello guys,

So here's the deal: I have a 55" Sony Bravia x700d series TV(Android TV),I want to control a satellite receiver using the TV's remote, so it should be either via an IR blaster or HDMI-CEC. The thing is that the TV didn't come with an IR blaster nor it has a port for it (although the same model in other countries comes with those), I also searched a lot to find a satellite receiver that supports HDMI-CEC but I found that those are extremely rare and expensive. What is your advice ? Would a USB IR blaster work?

Thanks in advance.
