Question on Live Channels, AndroidTV, and HDHomerun Prime

Hi... About a year ago, I'd decided to 'uncut' the cord. But, there was no way I was going back to paying Fios for a large house full of cable boxes in every room - we'd hit 7. It was absurd.

Using Nexus Players, Shields, a HD HomeRun Prime, and a single cable card, our cable bill went from over $350 a month to $99 - including the M-card and 75/75 internet and the HD Ultimate package (good deal, Verizon reps were nuts before Frontier bought them). All our cable channels in each room when needed, low price, and all was good in the world.

I have four Shields - so quite an investment in hardware.

Last week, in the DFW area, Frontier Fios (bought from Verizon in 2015) set the 'CopyOnce' CCI bit on most of their cable channels. My world came crashing down around me. The shields got unplugged, and I had to go drop several hundred dollars in a Tivo Bolt and several Tivo Mini's - it's actually quite nice; still just a single M-Card.

Anyway, although I'm reasonably happy with a great menu, integrated DVR, and multi-room solution, the AndroidTV menuing is much better and I've become a sucker for AndroidTV.

Will this madness end? Why can Tivo get around the CopyOnce restriction with their devices, but AndroidTV / HDHomeRun can't?

I have an understanding of the technical aspects upstream, and even here in the house (I know WMC, for instance seems to be the only software device that defeats this). What I'm curious about is why Tivo, and not HDHomeRun / AndroidTV?

LiveChannels was wonderful for us.... this has been a bummer.

Shield TV randomly turning off

Has anyone experienced this? Just bought a Shield TV recently and now it just randomly turns off. Not even into sleep mode, just a full hard power down out of nowhere. Has anyone had this issue before?

Nvidia Shield No Stereo Audio

Hello,

I'm having an issue with getting stereo audio to play through my Nvidia Shield. I'm able to pass through Surround Sound audio when watching media in Kodi, but I'm unable to stream stereo audio, be it music or a video that is encoded in stereo. I encountered the same issue in Netflix, Pandora, and YouTube. In addition, system sounds won't even play (such as the beep when running the audio/video sync).

I have swapped ports on my TV and receiver, reseated all connections, reset default settings to no resolve. Stereo audio does not play on TV when directly connected to the Shield.

This issue started before I updated to ver.3.3 and persisted after. This is the first time I have had any issue since I bought the shield last year.

I did stream a game from my PC last week, but that is the only thing that I have done differently and I know stereo audio worked before that.

Any ideas you have would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Live Channels and QAM, no actual channel listings?

I'm hoping members of this subreddit can help me. I have a Sony Bravia Android TV and have connected my Verizon coax cable to the QAM tuner on the TV. When it ran, it (sadly) discovered over 1000 channels. This presented quiet a chore to pare down the list of desired channels (which only totaled around 6) via Live Channel's hide/show options.

Unfortunately, despite paring things down, the program guide does not display anything. It's just a series of blank dates and times.

Has anyone else experienced this issue? Any way to fix it?

Shield 3.3 update, Live TV issues

I get occasional stutters and graphical artifacts with the Live TV app and intermittent buzzing in the sound. Everything else works great. No issues with Plex, Gamestream, or anything else. It's strictly the Live TV app. I didn't experience this with any prior updates. My source is a HD Homerun Prime. Has anybody else experienced this? If so, how did you fix it?

Update: Mi Box Flickering Workaround.

Here is my origninal post which you guys were kind enough to downvote to zero.

Anyway, what I've found is that if I boot the mi box while another input is selected and active on the receiver, and then go back to the mi box after it's fully booted, the glitching issue resolves itself. If I however boot the mi box and watch it boot on the screen, the shitty glitching returns. Something must be going on in the handshaking while the box is booting to cause this issue. Hope this helps someone out.

Need some help with my nexus player. Google Home related.

Hey guys. Picked up my Google home today and it's pretty great. Having an issue casting to my Nexus player from it though. The Nexus is up to date with the latest cast receiver. I've pretty much tried everything. The Google home app shows the np and I can cast to it from the app.

I'd like to remove the np and readd it but can't figure out how to do that in the Google home app. Wondering if anyone knows how to do so?

A brief Mi Box setup guide (fixed several issues I had)

Grabbed one of these new $69 Mi Box and had some trouble with rebooting and acting weird with my USB drive. Got it configured perfectly now and wanted to share on Reddit what I did. It's a great little device...

  1. Perform Initial Setup
  2. Update: Settings > About > Update; complete the update and reboot.
  3. Reset: Settings > Storage & reset. Do Factory Reset. Then re-setup the device from scratch now that update is applied. This fixed several issues I had.
  4. Update Apps: many apps didn't update automatically. In Google Play, search for and update:
    • WebView, Google, Android TV Launcher, Text-to-speach, Live Channels, YouTube, Netflix, Spotify, VLC, etc. Please let me know if I missed any.
  5. If you don't like the added MiBox Launcher features it can be disabled in Settings > Apps > Running Apps
  6. Recommended Apps:
  7. Mi Box, RetroArch, etc. all work great with a USB controller such as: https://www.amazon.com/Buffalo-Classic-USB-Gamepad-PC/dp/B002B9XB0E

Replacing other smart-TV os with Android TV?

I assume the answer is "no" as it stands, but I'll ask anyway to confirm: Can you in some fashion replace webOS or Tizen with Android TV?

I'm looking for a new TV for a friend of mine, and after I bought a new TV recently with AndroidTV I'm honestly convinced it's the way to go. However, our selection of TVs in Norway isn't exactly amazing. Sony have a pretty small share, and the data I picked up on Philips TV didn't paint a very good picture of their quality.

Long story short, LG and Samsung have shittons of options here, but they all run webOS and Tizen respectively. If possible, I'd like to run Android TV, as it seems the option that should have better support long-term...

I have 2.4 and 5 ghz. It'd connect to 5 ghz but data doesn't appear to transfer. Online services like Netflix, Hulu, Play Store don't work.

Everything's fine on 2.4ghz.

Having difficulty connecting the Android TV remote app to new MiBox

This is really racking my brain here. The software on the box is up to date, and connecting to Google cast over my wifi network works fine, but I find that connecting the remote app is incredibly inconsistent connecting to the box, regardless of wifi or Bluetooth. I've tried setting a static IP as well and that hasn't helped. Any suggestions?
