I have been able to sideload the APK but it's running on portrait only. How can I force the application to run on landscape?

This is more of a question for using it as an all in one entertainment source. My biggest issue is Cable Card integration. I have seen that the HDHRprime is getting Live Channels (w/ DRM) with this. I used WMC for a long time and loved it and wish to never use a cable box again(don't even care about DVR not working yet). Is the experience good? Is the guide usable for a wife that throws the remote at me at the slightest hiccup? I am not even worried about plex/netflix as I have finally trained her on those.

I guess I really only care about the Live Cable tv aspect.... Any thoughts or experiences would be wonderful. Honestly helps even more.

EDIT Thanks for all the help! I ended up getting the Shield and using it with the HDHR Prime that I had from the WMC days. It is impressive that everything works over WiFi (ac) with no issues. Just need to learn the actual SD app and how to remove channels so that we don't have all the crap. Any input on optimization would be great as well.

So with the added ability to access storage from the Shield, could we now use this as a nas solution? I currently have a Pi 2 hooked up to two external drives as a nas using openmediavault. It's primary job is to serve media and store some backups. I did have one of these drives hooked into my router at one point, but it never went to sleep, and the s.m.a.r.t. tests started revealing issues and eventually led to getting a replacement. If we use the Shield as a nas, do the drives sleep properly? The reason why I ask this is because while streaming from my Pi2 nas last night to the Shield and Chromecast, I encountered stutters. I assume this is because of the 10/100 networking limitation on the Pi.

Edit: Just noticed that you still cannot write to the external storage, so no dice.

Anyone have it installed on their Shield? For some reason it won't show up in the play store. Trying to add it from the browser wouldn't work either.

Recently got a new marshmallow box at work running 6.0.1 Marshmallow Ninja and im trying to load in BBC iplayer via sideload to see if we can get it working. Im currently using the Nvidia shield version as a source as its the only version besides FireTV that has the Leanback UI build in. In an attempt to get it to work i have decompiled the APK in order to see how its functioning. Leanback is already loaded into this, but the app keeps redirecting me to the Iplayer webpage instead of using the Leanback UI that the shield outputs.

Has anyone encountered this before/Knows a workaround/knows why its doing it? Any help would be appreciated :)

I was expected to be able to wake the TV by starting a Google Cast from a phone or tablet. But in reality, the TV doesn't appear in the available Google Cast device when the TV is on Standby mode. Should I really by an other Chromecast for my new TV ? I know it's cheap, but it would have been good to allow an intermediate standby with chromecast feature still running in background to wake up the screen when selected

Has anyone managed this? Trakt is essential for me.

I'm in an active directory environment at home, and I assume that has something to do with it. No matter what username and password I use, it's rejected.

Kodi has no issues with connecting to my server via SMB, though I assume it's a different method the way Nvidia is doing it.

Anyone else ran into this issue?

Has anyone figured out a way to do this? I'd like to remotely add videos from my PC to the Shield and then watch them on a mobile device. Only issue im having is the server won't display the video until I go into the Shield and physically update library. won't be due to do since im not near the Shield. Looks like auto library update is an option on the windows Plex server. Can't find it here.

I get that it takes videos and such from your PC and plays them on the device that has Plex installed. But how many people have TV shows and such saved on their PC? Or is there something I'm missing?

I have an external hard drive attached to my Shield TV that I'm using for Kodi. ES Explorer keeps saying that it doesn't have access to alter anything on the drive but it doesn't give me any option to fix it.

Kodi and Plex can see and play everything in the drive, it's just ES.

I'd like to be able to change file names and such without hooking the drive up to my computer.

Any ideas?

As the title says, I can install google photos from the play store, but it won't launch on my Nvidia Shield TV. It would be nice to be able to view my photos on the TV.

This was reported a while back as an added function. I remember testing it about 2 months after it was initially reported but it wasn't working. I asked an Nvidia employee about it ~1 month ago and they said it was "a half finished feature that got put in early." At that time, it was not working.

As of yesterday, it seems to be working for me. Anyone else? Its particularly useful in apps like Sling that do not have on screen pause/play buttons. You do have to double tap fairly quickly for the command to register.

I noticed it's coming to Android mobile this week. I was considering switching out my Fire TV and buying a Nvidia Shield TV. Is Android TV and mobile apps two different things, or will I be able to sideload the mobile app and use it on my Shield?

I just purchased:

• 55X8500D Australian (model num is a 55X850D in USA)

However I have been unable to get a smart dns working on it - to access UK content from Australia.

I have tried:

• Changing DNS settings on TV and/or on router (confirmed working on iPad and PC)
• Changing Google account to UK (all prices on TV showing in GBP)
• Re-doing Initial Setup choosing 'Region outside of what is listed' (there is no UK setting)
• Side loading UK TV apps
• 2 different smart dns services (selecting UK as the region for Sony TVs)

However the apps, eg: Mediahhh will say I'm not in right region. If I try to Cast from iPad to the TV using a UK TV app, the TV will not let me and say I am in the wrong region.

Has anybody been able to get this to work, or is the firmware region locked? Or is there a setting I'm missing. Thanks!
