Ok how does one use HBO Now?

I installed the app and signed up for a free trial. When I open the app all I get is a screen saying Enter the email address you will use for HBO Now. There is no on screen keyboard. Luckily I have an external keyboard but after typing my email address there is no submit button or anything. Pressing the center button just adds a space to the end of the email.

At this point I'd like to know just for the sake of canceling before they start charging me $15 a month for apparently nothing.

Twitch app alternative?

Is there an alternative to the Twitch app for watching Twitch streams?

For some reason Twitch will occasionally just die on me. It won't refresh my followed/subscribed streams, won't open a new stream (giving a "Network error") and sometimes just flat out sits at a black screen. So I'd like to get rid of it with something actually functional.

DLNA and other questions about Nvidia Shield Android TV.

Hello. I am just about to pull the trigger on buying the Nvidia Shield Android TV. I have a few questions that I am hoping you all can help me out here.

First off, how is the device overall? Do you think it is safe to buy one now? I mean, are there any rumours about a new/refresh device?

Is there any way to use PS4 Remote Play on it...without a side load?

Finally, can I use the device as a DLNA server? I would like to have an external USB hooked up, where I will have movies and my kid's shows on. Can I stream to other devices and Smart TV's on my home network?

Thank you in advance to all advice, suggestions and help.

Live Channels app straight to guide?

Is there a way to get the live channels app to go straight to the channel guide? Right now when I press the button it goes to a intermediate menu that has a button for channel guide and links to the last 2 or 3 channels you watched. It's fairly useless and despite explaining it to my grandma 3 times already she gets confused and gives up when the "guide" button doesn't open the guide.

PSA: you can open webpages in chrome from the home screen

So I don't know if I'm the first to figure this out, but I found it too awesome not to tell you about it, so here it goes. I just tried to search for 'Reddit' on the home screen of my Shield where I have chrome sideloaded and something very cool happened. In the results there actually was a tile for reddit.com! When I clicked it, chrome opened on the reddit Frontpage and I could start browsing. Okay after some more trying out, it seems the tiles of chrome only appear when I search for a website, say reddit, Facebook and only if you have visited the website before on the Shield... So, reddit opened, since I visited it before, but Wikipedia wouldn't open. Anyway, I hope google expands this and just gives the normal search results by voice, however for now, this is quite awesome.

Netflix Audio on the Nvidia SHIELD Android TV issue!

I have a 5.1 surround sound system in my house, and when i play a movie on Netflix the audio is very low. If I use kodi or plex the audio is normal. Testet the same movie on all the players with 5.1 support. Netflix is the only player that this happens on. Anyone had this issue ?

Video playback in background after hitting home button

Is there a way to disable the background video playback when I hit the home button. Most of the apps do it and its both distracting and frankly unnecessary. I want to use the home button to exit the app but instead I have to pause the video first to do that.

Is there a setting I missed somewhere to do that?

Crazy Theory: Amazon Video is coming to Nvidia Shield

I just found something very interesting on the German site of Nvidia Shield on Facebook.

https://www.facebook.com/NVIDIASHIELDDeutschland/videos/286118175060421/?comment_id=286138091725096

To make it short, 2 people complain that Amazon Video is still not available on Shield even though it is working on Android TV already (Sony).

The employee answers that "they are continuously working on bringing the best and most famous Apps to Shield TV". Then someone else says (paraphrased) "doesn't Amazon prevent a release?"

Employee then answers "A little more patience :)".

Now here is my crazy theory:

Since early this month Nvidia is claiming that the 3.2 update will "come towards the end of this month" or sometimes "end of this month".

Now how would they know this date so precisely so much days in advance? Either the certification process (including finding bugs) is already finished or very near completion or they are simply guessing which is a bad business move, because many people get pissed if a business doesn't hold their timelines.

After the whole getting Sony's Amazon Video APK working on other Android TV devices and then days later Amazon blocks the workaround story, it's pretty clear that Sony paid money to get an exclusive Android TV release.

When did these Sony Android TVs come out? End of Februar 2015 or early March depending on the market.

If Sony bought exclusive rights for 16 months (1 1/3 years), it would end exactly at the end of June 2016.

tl;dr:

Nvidia Shield Facebook Employee says "a little more patience" for Amazon Video App and Sony's exclusive rights could end End of June, coincidentally exactly when the 3.2 update is announced for.

Anyway to block the Shield TV Update prompt?

Pretty much what the title says. I don't want to update to marshmallow (Don't want to lose the ability to be able to press home and go straight to Kodi as that's where I run everything from)

Every other day though I get the prompt to update and I'm afraid my kid is going to accidentally update it. Anyway to block this?

Has the Xiaomi Mi Box release date been announced yet?

Moved some things around in the house (Shield TV units, for one) and am traveling for business.

Just got the dreaded text from wife: "went to use p90x on upstairs TV and nothing on it works..."

I don't want to buy another Shield (we have 3, one in movie room, one in master bedroom, one I travel with), but our last Roku 3 unit died and unless I "fix the TV's" very soon, my setup may lose wife appeal/approval!

Advice needed: replacement for AMLogic based box.

So I currently have a Keedox MX3 Android TV box. It's not bad but I had problems playing anything other than 16:9 content in Kodi (streamed from NAS), it basically stretches anything that isn't 16:9 to fill the screen. I'm aware that you can disable the AMLogic option under the video acceleration options and it resolves the aspect ratio issues but introduces audio sync issues with 5.1 content and introduces occasional jerking during playback.

I read these issues are due to it being an AMLogic based device and the problem is not resolvable outside of what I already mentioned above.

Basically I'm looking to replace the unit with something better that isn't AMLogic based. My only real requirement is that the device supports optical out, DD5 1, DTS and Ethernet out. Well and Kodi of course. Does anyone have any suggestions? I've looked and looked but really stumped as what are the current better devices.

Cheers
