How to remap Sony Android TV remote

Hi all,

I've got a Sony KDL75W850C android TV. I'm looking to remap one of the unused buttons (teletext for example) to open an app on the TV.

I've got an ip camera setup and want to open blue iris ip cam app quickly and easily.

Can this be done without rooting the TV?

Per app volume settings?

Is it possible to automatically change the volume based on the app in the foreground? I constantly have to change the volume because some games are a lot louder than Netflix. I'm open to rooting, but I'd rather not.

HBO GO app outside the US?

Just started a trial for HBO, but I'm now realising there are separate HBO GO apps for each region (terrible), and also a separate app for Android TV, which is unavailable at all.

Is there a workaround, such as sideloading? Will it even work?

Be Careful: Factory Sealed new Nvidia Shield Pro was obviously a resealed Open Box item & Damaged! Shipped from Amazon.

So I got my new Nvidia Shield Pro in the mail today from Amazon. I drove home from work, extremely excited. Opened up the amazon box. Nvidia Shield box was all Nvidia factory sealed. Peal that open. And... the Nvidia Shield Pro is all scratched.. with the sealant tape over all the shiny parts (wow). That pisses me off. Then all of the cords except for the USB cable are unraveled with the paper wraps to them broken (whatever, but again, obviously not NEW). Then I pull the power adapter out and the pins that the adapter prongs snap over are all yanked, scratched and twisted, one broken in half.

I immediately jumped on amazon and got the return labels sorted out and boxed it back up. I didn't take any photos sorry. This is my first bad experience with Nvidia (besides like a driver issue here or there). I'm still really excited about getting a NEW Nvidia Shield Pro.

Just hope no one else has this issue. I tweeted Nvidia about it too.

I ordered a NEW Unit. I paid for a NEW Unit. Ordered from the main Amazon store (not some side store). I either got a half-assed refurbished unit or an open box item that had been returned that they didn't bother to check and just resealed to sell as new. In any case, not cool.

Edit: as people are pointing out, probably Amazon's fault. I wasn't aware that they had access to NVidia's seals for packaging. Also someone else mentioned ways to peel back seals to swap something out and ship it back to Amazon. So maybe that happened too. I posted this out of being really annoyed at the time. My new unit is on the way. Hopefully this one is actually new!

Edit edit: New one arrived today. All is working well. Waiting on software updates to dive into it! SO EXCITED

Sony X850 no surround sound in PLEX app

Read some threads from back in mid 2015 that the os doesn't support surround sound like dolby or DTS, is that still the case?

I've tried just about everything to get it to work through my optic cable to the receiver. Speakers are set to audio system, digital audio out is set to Auto 2, everything in PLEX checks out too.

Was hoping to get away from my Intel NUC when it gets to watching movies but if I can't get DTS while watching movies it's not worth the switch.

Sideloading the Android base Email/Accounts options

I'm looking to build a Raspberry Pi3 based wall calendar that syncs to my companies Office 365 meeting room(s) account and displays the calendar which i can then mount on the wall.

So far i've got Android TV on the Pi, i've got a whole host of different calendar options loaded but a fair few of them (expectedly) don't even load, but there are a few good looking ones i've got running quite well.

My issue is that most calendar apps dont let you sign into the app itself with an account to sync, but they pull from the local android 'accounts/email' area. AndroidTv doesn't have that option built in by default, does anyone know if it's possible to side load that?

ShieldTV: Powering down external drives

I have a ShieldTV with two drives attached to it (one external, one portable). I don't like having them on all the time, as sometimes it'll be a day or two between uses.

So, a few questions/thoughts:

1.) Is there any way to power down USB ports through software? This is the ideal way, as it would turn off both drives.

2.) What about timed/smart power strips? Even just having them shut down at night would save a lot of hours with them running. However, would it be hard on the drives to just "pull the plug" so to speak. This would only help with the external drive.

3.) If there is a way to power them down, how about waking them up?

Ideally these things would happen automatically, without me needing to get a separate surge protector and flipping the switch, or yanking the portable drive out; not to mention the hassle of going through the menus to demount the portable drive.

Let me know what you guys do. Open to any and all suggestions.

Thanks!
