For the past few weeks my father in-law had raised issues that wifi connectivity was struggling with his HiMedia H8 Octacore.
I finally got around to looking at it on Saturday, and noticed that DL speed in kodi/chrome/google play is extremely slow even when in the settings it said my connection is 35mbps. It also occasionally disconnected from wifi, even though other devices (phone) has constant connectivity. Then plugged it into the ethernet cable, and noticed speeds were blazing fast and everything worked fine.
I took the box home and tried it on my wifi which connected at 62.5mbps, and still had slow speeds/connectivity issues. In response, I upgraded the firmware to 1.1.1. Still to no avail the wifi issues continued. I then upgraded to 1.1.2 found on the HiMedia site, which supposedly addresses wifi issues. Still the problem persist.
At this point I believe it a hardware issue, as both firmwares and changes in wifi did not address the issue. I have a couple questions for the forum to resolve this:
Any help would be really appreciated!
I'm about to give up! I've been trying to find a good way to use play a slideshow of my the photos on my NAS while the Daydream screensaver is on. I was using Cloud PhotoFrame EX.net, but after a wipe and reinstall it no longer works. Next I tried Digital Photo Frame Premium, it works, but when I try to use it in Daydream mode, it simply doesn't even start.
Does anyone have a recommendation? Am I out of options?
Update: I found it! I found the app I was looking for. It's called Cloud Digital Photo Frame. It's not cheap at $5.99 right now, but I gave it a shot knowing I could get a refund, and now I'd pay twice that in a heartbeat! Not only can it show photos off my NAS, it loads them surprisingly fast. It is also the nicest looking slideshow player I've seen, it has a lot of, let's say, "contexts" that it shows your photos in.
With an Android TV and a smartphone, is there anything that comes close to mimicking some core aesthetic of Volumio (in app form)?
For those unaware of Volumio, it's an OS for playing music on whatever box it's installed on (typically a Raspberry PI) and is often controlled through a web interface on a phone or tablet.
I've seen plenty of controllers for Kodi etc. on iPhones but what I've seen looks bloated and a bit kitsch at times, sacrificing functionality and information for something that looks like WinAmp back in the 90s. Album covers are nice but when they fill the whole screen and have buttons with all sorts of bevel and shine effects it can really kill having an efficient way of browsing and playing music through a remote app. I love Volumio's progress bar and time being central and informative to what's playing, as well as the minimal album browsing lists that are quick and fit lots in when there's only small screen real estate. There's thought put into it.
I've seen some web interfaces for Kodi itself but information looks scarce and, judging from the few who've tried it, it doesn't look like a simple HTML and CSS layout project if I was to tackle it. Also, I believe Kodi doesn't play higher bitrate music on the Nvidia Shield (only Apps that use NuPlayer appear do) so ideally I'd like to keep away from it.
Just to emphasise, I've little interest in streaming music to other devices or my phone. There's plenty of apps to take care of that. I've got my Nvidia Shield set up with a nice Amp and Speakers and would like, when I'm not watching movies, to use it as a headless music player that I can browse mp3 and flac files on the Shield from my phone and remotely control them from the same phone. There just appears to be nothing nearly as nice to use as the Volumio web interface.
When we first turn the TV on you often see a message "Internet download failed". If you try and open Netflix, youtube or anything requiring an internet connection you are prompted to setup your WiFi. If however you see the Internet download failed message and wait at least 1 minute and then open netflix it's fine most of the time.
However this doesn't always work and the only fix is either doing a reset on the TV (pulling power out the back) or resetting our router seems to be another fix.
I've done a factory reset on the TV, given it a static IP, made sure it has the latest S/W version. The TV and router are about 4-5 steps apart. Any ideas? http://www.sony.com.au/product/kdl-50w800c
