Puppetmaster.tv - Great app

This is a great app with lots of potential. The ability to create your own "puppets" (channels) makes it even more awesome. The ability to share these channels through pastebin makes this app limitless.

Aerb remote with nvidia shield

I just got an nvidia shield and I'm using an Aerb airmouse with it :http://www.amazon.com/Aerb-Wireless-Keyboard-Multifunctional-3-Gsensor/dp/B00K768DHY

Everything works great EXCEPT for the back button, which I believe is mapped to a right click instead. The ESC key on the back keyboard is mapped to the back button, although it seems to only go back when it feels like it. Is there any way to fix this?

I tried the following app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=innerlife.keyboard.multilanguagekeymapredefiner but I was not able to map the key with it since I guess that button is not being read as a key.

The Shield supports Vulkan. Doom supports Vulkan. Why can't we have Doom?

It's disappointing considering Nvidia launched Vulkan using Doom. It seems like they've given up on Android.

Tip: Use Android TV as a WiFi hotspot (x-post from /r/theNvidiaShield)

I was frustrated since the hotel I stayed offered no Wifi, but just ethernet. I thought well why worry? since I have my Nvidia Shield!

So I connected the ethernet to shield but... wifi hotspot/tethering option was hidden! FML! But alas desperation is the mother of invention.

And it is on! Wireless goodness!

Netflix playback issue on Shield TV

I recently got an Nvidia Shield TV and when I try to play anything on netflix I get the percentage progress meter until 25% and then it stops for while and then slowly creeps until 100% plays a few seconds of the video and then re-appears.

On the other hand, on my PC Netflix plays immediately without any delay and the funny thing is that both devices are connected to the same network (Shield WIFI, PC Ethernet). Checking my connection speed at fast.com gives me around 42 Mb so my download speed is good.

I suspected wifi issues but when I download anything from Google it was very fast so Wifi seems to be working fine.

Any pointers on diagnosing the issue or fixing it would be appreciated.

How many of you use an Android TV device as a replacement for your Smart TV's native software?

I'm thinking about doing this with my Nexus Player. Only problem being it does not output to 4K, but I suppose I could just switch to the native apps when I want to view something in 4K. My main reason for wanting to connect my Nexus Player again is for Moonlight Streaming.

FYI: some BestBuy stores have the Shield TV combo package (device, controller, and remote) on sale for $179

Just a note that I picked up a combo set of the Shield TV and remote for $179. The store I was in had three of them on the shelf.

The BestBuy website does not list the combo package but it has the same part number as the basic Shield TV. Also, the box/packaging of the combo kit is white and was found in the TV section (as opposed to the basic device that has a dark box/packaging found in the gaming area).

Please could someone explain to me how Android TV boxes work

So one of my Dad's friends told him that he had a box on which you can search for any tv series/film and it does a global search and finds the best quality version for you to watch. Father's day is coming up and I really want to get him one but there's so many options on the internet and if I'm totally honest, this isn't my specialty and I don't understand how they work at all. From what I could gather, the ones available on amazon etc. run Kodi and other software but I've also read that it's not really legit and will break without constant updates (which I will be totally incapable of). So basically my questions is: Do the legitimate models give free access to any film or do I have to have subscriptions to the apps that they run, for example do I need a membership to watch stuff through the amazon video app? And if anyone could explain to me properly how these things actually work it would be really helpful, thanks x

AndroidTV for Kodi + TV m3u8 streams

So my parents are pretty pissed cable is raising their subscription price to 100$/month even if they dont watch 90% of all channels, they just want to watch som few spanish ones.

So Ive been thinking about maybe buying them a Box and install Kodi, I have found m3u8 stream link to all the channels they watch.

But what Box should I buy them? Would be best if I buy something cheap that is simple to navigate and with a controller that dosent have many buttons.

Was thinking about the Nexus Player but I live in Europe and its pretty much sold out here, there is no retailer who sells it anymore.

My TV's IR remote controls my nexus player. What dark magic is this?

I know the nexus player doesn't have IR support, and even still I never set it up w/ my TV's remote. My best guess is that there's some protocol over HDMI that my TV speaks and the Nexus Player understands. Has anyone experienced this?

It's nice b/c now I can use just one remote (no switching back and forth to change volume). Seems to have a slight lag in response time, but otherwise it's a nice feature!

[edit] Apparently this is called HDMI-CEC
