Apps crashing when re-opening

Does anyone else experience apps crashing when reopening them? I have 2 shield TVs and this happens on both all the time.

For example, if I open sling for the first time, then switch to live channels, and eventually back to sling. Sling will crash the second time. If I re-open sling again, it will completely re-start from the splash screen.

I'm using sling as an example, but this occurs for most Apps fairly often. Its as if the resume code doesn't work on Android TV. Does anyone else experience this?

What is required for Leanback recommendations?

I have this cheap MXQ Pro 4k box running Android 5.1. It comes preloaded with the manufacturer's launcher, and the Google Play Store shows Leanback as incompatible.

I was, however, able to sideload Leanback 1.1.4 and it works reasonably well. The only thing that doesn't work is Leanback's recommendations.

What is required for the recommendations to appear? Is there a service which provides this information?

How do I prevent Android TV from auto-updating Kodi??

I am using the last experimental build for Kodi (Jarvis) that allows DTS-HD passthrough on my nvidia shield TV. The play store version does not allow for this, but still insists on updating Kodi. It's done this twice now and it's very annoying for me to have to uninstall it and install the experimental build again only for it to update again in 24 hours.

I've done some quick searching and the only thing I can find is how to turn off updates completely. Is there a way to turn it off for a certain app?

Video player with hardware support and network buffer?

Strange request this. I often watch IPTV on my Shield TV and I've not had much luck with kodi. VLC allows buffering but only with software, MX player has no buffering support... I'm looking for something that offers both.

Does such a thing exist on android that I can try?

Thank you!

Shield TV Bluetooth Visibility To Be Addressed

tl;dr Got an email from Nvidia customer service telling me they intend to release a fix for this, but it requires some backend work so it won't be in the next release

The issue: Currently the Shield TV is visible as a bluetooth device to any nearby devices with bluetooth. This means that someone can attempt to connect to your shield TV any time it is on. They cannot complete the connection, as they need information from the shield. However, repeat attempts can be used to effectively deny you use of the device. Each time an attempt is made, the user is kicked out of whatever application they are in and the bluetooth connection screen is displayed.

I live in an apartment complex and have only had this happen once, but it was very frustrating. I do not think it was out of malicious intent, as when I changed the device name to "please stop trying to connect to me" they stopped. But this vulnerability could definitely be used by someone with malicious intent.

I reported the bug a couple months ago and just received this response:

I just wanted to provide you with an update on the issue below. We will be releasing a minor update soon to fix a few bugs reported in the last release. Because of the backend work required for this change, it cannot be added in time for the next release but we have a plan to address it in the following release. Thank you for your patience.

Why does google play movies still not have 4k content?

The full 2016 Vizio 4k TV line up will support Google cast, all Sony 4k TVs run Android TV and the nvidia shield is arguably the best 4k streaming device.....So why does Google play movies still not support 4k. Why hasn't Google made it a priority when YouTube already supports 4k and higher.

Brand new to the android space. Please steer me in the right direction.

To be up front I'm an iOS/Mac guy through and through but I need to replace some roku's in my house.

I stream all of my content from my nas to all my other devices and use plex to play content. I am familiar with kodi and can use it but I like how plex keeps track of watched status across all my devices. Can I use plex?

For my sports I either use sportsnet.ca, tsn.ca or nba.com so I either need flash support or Chrome desktop browser, is this possible? Does the browser work the same way as a desktop (any limitations)?

Being that I'm on iOS are there any decent remote options or do I have to buy a mouse/keyboard?

Lastly, given everything I need what are some of my best box options I should look to buy?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

How does the Nexus Player holds up in terms of performance in 2016?

Hi, I'm considering buying a Android TV box because my old Chromecast is lagging drasticly, sometimes unsuable. I really want the Shield, but It's just too expensive. I need a device that can performe good at playing media. Not really need it for gaming, as I got a Playstation 4 connected in my living room.

So I thought about getting the Nexus Player, as It's cheaper. The thing is - It's old. I heard that it struggles with x265 videos, and I want something to play media from my Plex server perfectly.

So my question is - is the Nexus Player still worth getting for media use in 2016?

Best site to buy Android TV Boxes for newbies? Best Android TV Boxes?

Hi, So I've done some research and decided to buy my first Android TV Box mostly to try out Kodi / XBMC. I have heard how awesome Kodi is and that you can get TV and Movies for free because my monthly cable TV bill is getting insane and I don't want nor watch 3/4's of the channels.

I have never used Kodi or Android Boxes Before, so I had no idea what to buy or how to set up Kodi. I read lots of threads about buying Android TV Boxes on Amazon, etc because you can return them etc if you don't like them. BUT I also read lots of horror stories about it taking up to a month for boxes to arrive because lots of Amazon sellers are in China, etc and they don't tell you that before you buy. I also heard that there is NO support from Amazon sellers so you are on your own to figure out Kodi, etc.

Now I know many people on here are going to say, Kodi is simple! But it's really not for people who have NO IDEA / Newbies.

Anyway just wanted to say I found a site who has a 30 day money back guarantee (to try out their boxes) and a 11 month hardware warranty. PLUS they offer online support.

They also don't load their Kodi or Android TV Boxes with 100's of useless Apps or Add-On's I think they're called. I heard that loading boxes is a tactic by "shady" box sellers to make their boxes seem more appealing, but they are really just cluttered with garbage :(

Plus they don't offer 40 different boxes they just sell like 2 or 3 and 1 or 2 remotes because they have already researched which ones are best.

Ok ok sorry... Long story short. I was worried about buying an Android Box and Using Kodi because of all the confusion online about them: 1) Best Android TV Box to buy? 2) Best site to buy Android TV Boxes? 3) Best Kodi Add ons? etc...

I bought mine from a Shopify store called: www.AndroidTVandME.com

They have been awesome! They keep it simple and helped me out right away when I couldn't even figure out how to hook it up to WIFI. I know I'm lame :(

I've had the box for about a week and I love it!

Just wanted to share my story in case anyone else is in the same boat.
