Is Solid Explorer still coming to Android TV?

I haven't seen any mention if this is still coming - I can't wait to ditch ES File Explorer. I hate how the selection box disappears and you have to line up the items just right to move over from the settings column to the file contents window.

dianxin after installing Es File Explorer (latest version) ?

Just wondering what dianxin is doing on my android tv device, I updated Es File Explorer earlier this morning and that's when I noticed that the folder appeared. Did a quick search and found that it's some Chinese custom rom, but I've never rooted my device. Has anyone else noticed this after updating to the latest version of Es File Explorer, if so please let me know, for the record I haven't installed any app from unknown sources either. Is this something I should be concerned about ? Or am I just being paranoid ?

Edit: so I did a factory reset and the folder is obviously now gone, however I'm afraid to install ES File Explorer again until I know for certain that it isn't "wasn't" the cause. Can anyone confirm if the latest version 4.0.4.9 has installed the dianxin folder on their device or not ?

Edit #2: so I read the most recent reviews for the latest version of Es File Explorer that was posted today on the Google play store and it seems as if I was right, it looks like I'm not the only one that has noticed this (dianxin folder suddenly appearing after updating) some have even reported that their AV has flagged the latest version of ES as a threat. Well chock that up for coincidence, I've been a long time user of ES so this is definitely disappointing news :/ I'll wait for Solid Explorer or try a different file manager in the meantime.

HDMI Switch with HDCP 2.2 Capabilities?

I currently have a Vizio 4K TV that only has one 60hz HDCP 2.2 compliant HDMI port. Major problem with my shield and other 4k peripherals. Can't find a single switch that advertises support for HDMI 2.0 AND HDCP 2.2 Capabilities.

Anyone have one or know of one?

NP issues with Netflix

Wondering if someone has or had the same issue as me with my Nexus Player. So I recently purchased a NP and decided to get an OTG adapter for internet (some apps were running too slow with wifi). Every app that I use (Plex, Youtube, Kodi, Twitchtv) seem to to run beautiful with no stutter or anything, BUT when I play stuff on Netflix, it stutters and is unbearable to watch.

When I disconnect the ethernet and connect via wifi, the other apps run somewhat "OK", but Netflix runs beautifully and barely if no stutters occur.

Anyone have any idea why and IF there is is a way to fix this?

TIA!

Buying a Shield TV - Do I need to buy the remote also?

Hi,

Thanks in advance for reading this. I am buying a Shield TV as a front end for my Plex/Usenet machine which I have set-up upstairs. It is connected to my router wired through powerline, as will be my new Shield TV.

My TV is a Sony KDL-40CX523 and this is the remote.

Will I need to buy the Shield TV Remote or will I be able to use my current remote through HDMI CEC as a replacement? Would there be any tradeoffs or issues if this is the case.

Thanks again

Shield Hub apps randomly disappearing?

Notably Nvidia GameStream keeps on disappearing, no idea why. It comes back after restarting, but it's still pretty annoying considering its something I actually use.

NVIDIA SHIELD TV - Bluetooth?

The SHIELD is only be able to listen for devices that can pair to it. It can't scan for Bluetooth devices and pair with them, such as headphones. Why did they miss out a very basic Bluetooth feature? Is there an app to bypass their silly accessory page and just scan?

Even Chinese boxes can do this properly. Sigh.

Properly getting Plex to DirectPlay/stream to Shield TV

I'm not sure this is the right place, but I figured most of you would be using Plex, whereas not many redditors at the Plex subreddit would be on Android TV.

I'm trying to get Plex to stream the original file to the Shield TV, without transcoding. I can get Plex to stream smaller files (1 - 2 GB) without issues, but it tries to transcode my larger files (around 6 GB). The codecs seem to be identical, so that's probably not it.

Kodi with PleXBMC runs everything fine, but I prefer Plex' leanback UI. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A few reasons why I don't use Kodi.

There is just no point when you've got AndroidTV.

  • Archos Player connects by SMB or DLNA and there is basically no setup required beyond that. No need to sort your ahem downloads at all. Kodi and it's various media scrapers are resource (and time) hogs, and choke on mixed video folders as well as some arguably poorly named files.

  • Kodi: click, wait, click, wait, click wait. AndroidTV apps seem to function instantaneously.

  • Kodi plugins: inefficient web scrapers that rarely work when you want them to. AndroidTV: there are plenty of apps that get the job done for the streaming crowd. For those who must, PopcornTime or ShowBox (with a mouse) makes Kodi look like it is still designed for use on the original Xbox.

  • HDHomerun just works. And the live channel feature just can't be matched in Kodi. It doesn't have the speed to simulate that Cable TV snappiness.

  • STB emulator and IPTV apps are lightning fast. My friends watching me flip through channels think I've switched to Homerun.

  • Kodi just doesn't really handle casting. I don't know why people try to get it to work and expect it will perform even half as well as an AppleTV or Chromecast/Google Cast device.

  • just about every streaming video source looks like garbage. Say what you will about AndroidTV's YouTube app, but the Kodi plugins just aren't built to the same standard. Horrible buffering, and occasionally scaling issues. No thanks.

  • AndroidTV's leanback launcher is fast and free of lag.

Here is ONE for Kodi: It does play H.265/HEVC without a hitch. Archos simply needs to do a better job with their codec pack.

Please mods, would you post a sticky about the "fake" android boxes that are not officially supported? Every time i go through posts here, there is at least one poor redditor who has to explain the cons about these boxes. Seems like it would be easier to just sticky information about it.
