Possible to enable Google now always listening on Nexus Player?

I hooked up a USB microphone to the Nexus Player and it works great with Google now however I can't seem to find an option anywhere to enable always listening mode for Google now on Android TV. I currently have to trigger it with a key press.

Is it possible to enabled the always listening feature?

Chromecast feature not working on Shield tv

We have been trying to cast to our Nvidia shield tonight, but it never seems to connect. There is definitely connectivity and the apps themselves work on the Shield, but we couldn't cast to it. The Shield shows up as an option to cast to, but the apps are unable to connect.

We have already rebooted the Shield twice and I tried clearing data from the Chromecast shell app, but no luck.

We can successfully cast to our actual Chromecast with no problem.

Anyone else have this issue? Any advice?

Sirius?

Is there any way to listen to Sirius on Android TV? An app to sideload? Can the normal Android app cast?

TIA!

Recording TV

You can use the built in Twitch screen capture to record TV playing through live channels on the Shield TV. It isn't an ideal solution, but it never occurred to me to try.

Difficulty getting a sideloaded app to work

I sideload several apps to my Nvidia Shield- most of them work great. I'm using the CNN android app primarily and a few others- and I just use the mouse to control them if they don't support the controller. For the most part its great.

I've had difficulty getting the LogoTV android app to work when sideloaded. I can use it fine on my android phone and tablet- signing in with my cable provider. When sideloaded to my android tv, when I get the screen for selecting my cable provider, it just hangs.

Are there any further suggested steps for debugging sideloaded app behavior like this? Are there any other dependencies from my phone that need to be sideloaded to get apps like this to work properly on the android tv? Thanks!

Does anybody understand why casting to ATV is worse than actual Chromecasts?

I am thoroughly pissed about having to sideload Spotify and resorting to that option when casting to a regular Chromecast (even the 1st gen) is supported. Isn't it the same protocols?

Stock Live Channels with Sony Android TV

Sony's softwares are bloatware and worse of it all is that they are buggy. I've had to multiple problems with the Discover and the Live Channels app. It keeps forgetting my favourites, channels don't load up etc.

Is there a way to use the stock Live Channels app instead of Sony's crapware?

CNN App Adds Chromecast Support, Android TV Support "Coming Soon"

The newest updated to the CNN app added Chromecast support. That is cool, but I like the mention in the "What's New" about full Android TV support coming soon.

Live Channel sources

Right now I've got weather now and pluto.tv as my sources. Are there more? I've come across tablo tv (don't have the receiver), HDhomerun (again, no receiver) and Cumulus. I couldn't figure out Cumulus (creating the JSON file etc). Are there any more known sources that can feed into this live channels app? It seems to have a ton of potential

I was wondering which is best and why? the MX Q seems to have a better processor. but less ram and internal memory + less good of a wifi card. But it is also half the price.

No submit button on shield tv when setting up wifi

I'm trying to get my shield TV set up and when typing in the password for my wifi it asks me to use the app on my phone to type in the password. So I installed the app and types in the password but when I hit the enter/submit key on my keyboard nothing happens. I'm not sure this means anything but I'm using the Google keyboard and a Nexus 6P to set this up. I've also tried on my Samsung tab 8 and my friends moto x all have the same issue. I can type in the password but I can't tap enter. I've tried restarting the shield and my phone, nither have worked. If I connect with no password on my wifi I have no issue but obviously I don't want to have an unprotected WiFi network.

Update** so if anyone else has this issue I figured out what went wrong. I had to re select my leanback keyboard from the settings menu. Somehow it became unselected and I was unable to properly use input text.

Best budget bluetooth controller?

First of all, I live in Canada, so expensive shipping is a factor.

I'm currently using a wireless Xbox 360 controller with the dongle over OTG on my Nexus player. I want to use a Bluetooth controller and wondering my options. I don't want to spend too much and would prefer the same button layout as the Xbox controller. Any help would be appreciated.

Shield TV v2 ?

Hi all,

I'm looking to update an aging WDTV live, and was considering the nvidia shield since it's one of the few devices that support full 4k netflix certification.

I had a few questions, though:

  1. Shield TV is now nearly a year old - have they made any announcements about a new model coming out soon?

  2. Does Shield TV support NTFS on USB drives for local playback? (A quick google search indicates yes, but sometimes support can be flakey)

Basically, I'm looking to cover this checklist:

  • [ ] Netflix full 4k support
  • [ ] NTFS USB playback
  • [ ] Reasonable codec support (mp4/mkv)
  • [ ] Hardware HEVC decoding

Nice to have:

  • [ ] Easy youtube playback (can I setup a playlist on my laptop to access here? I hate using non-keyboards)
  • [ ] Spotify
  • [ ] Pandora
  • [ ] Apple AirPlay support

Nexus Player not reading Ethernet connection

Hi all,

I recently purchased a USB+Ethernet hub for my Nexus Player, and I've plugged in a bunch of stuff but for some reason it isn't working. The USB connections work fine, but the ethernet connection just isn't being read. It doesn't automatically read that an Ethernet cable has been connected. The hub works on other devices and the cable works on other devices too.

It's not the hub: I've plugged in USB devices and it works fine. Am I missing something here?
