Can't select Full under Dynamic Range

My TV is set to Full, I'm connected to a Marantz NR1606 4K receiver, and Dynamic Range is grayed out. If I change the resolution to 1080p it is no longer grayed out and my blacks are no longer washed out. Is this a bad HDMI cable or something else? Thanks!

Edit: This is for the Shield TV recently updated to Marshmallow.

SD Card problems on 3.0 (Marshmallow)?

So I just installed 3.0 on my Nvidia Shield and I also got a PNY Micro SD Card (32 GB//60 mbps) for the update which is suppose to allow easy cross over btwn micro SD's and internal storage.

Anyway, I updated and it prompted my PNY SD card to use the new feature but it said that "This SD Card appears to be slow...recommend a Class 10 or higher one..." This SD Card is Class 10, UHS-1 which is a lot faster than the 10mbps. Also when formatting it appeared as "Lexar SD Card" even though its PNY.

Anyone else having similar problems?

UPDATE: I've done the default migrating of apps and data over to the card and it seems to work fine, no latency issues or anything. The formatting was also quick (1-2 mins) and the setting up and data moving took about 5 mins. My bet is it's recognizing it as a different card (Lexar in this case) which probably has a slower read/write so I got the warning - But no issues yet.

So the Shield update is out, what is working and what is not?

Out of the apps I have used since the update, Gamesome (2.0 beta) crashes immediately. I reformatted my sd as internal storage. I also cleared the data with no success. I'm sure I'll find others, but that was the first noticeable issue I've had.

Thinking of buying Sony 49X83C

Hey guys,

Thinking of buying Sony KD-49X8305C and Sony RMF-TX100 remote.

Do you recommend it? Does it lag too much or does the OS crash as much as reported previously? Is it too soon to migrate to Android TVs?

Any and every feedback is useful.

FYI - I'm planning to use it for UK Freeview TV, International Freesat TV and self-hosted NAS media through Kodi. Not much other things.

Thanks.

Audio stop after waking from sleep - ShieldTV

I'm having an issue with my NVidia Shield TV where every time the device goes into sleep mode, when I wake the device the audio no longer works. The only way to resolve the audio issue is to restart my Shield TV. Is anyone else experiencing this and have you found a resolution?

Is there a way to watch encrypted IPTV channels directly?

My TV/internet provider necessitates the use of a settopbox to watch their encrypted IPTV streams. I'm wondering if there's any way to decrypt or "log in" to these streams directly on my Shield TV, either with an app or some other means, so I don't have to use their box.

The provider is KPN in the Netherlands.

Help with Sharp Android Tv

I recently purchased a Sharp Aquos TV with the Androidtv OS. The TV works great, with a couple of configuration issues, but not related to the OS. The 4K stream from Netflix is freaking awesome! I am looking for a means by which to load apps that are not available through the app-store, specifically Skype and Playon Client. Any help or guides that I can get or be pointed to would be greatly appreciated.

Keyboard/Touchpad Recommendations

I currently own a Nexus Player and I'm going to be installing the Full Android 6.0.1 v.1.3 OS onto the NP.

I am looking between the Logitech K830 & K400.

I've seen a lot of people talk about iPazzPort/Rii/Favi. Are there any major differences other than size? Price isn't a big concern to me, functionality is important.

Side question: Are there any other OS's I should potentially look at installing instead of the Marshmallow OS?

Thanks for any help!

Android box with DTS and 4K

Hello guys,

Sorry if other post talk about it but i really didn't find my answer. So first i'm not a professional so maybe my question will look stupid or incorrect, sorry for that.

I looking for a Android Tv box but i have hard time to find the model i should take. I need a box able to deal with 4k ( 3840 x 2160) and with DTS support, if possible with the optical sound output because i had bad experience with the setup like box->TV-> home cinema So i wish do something like the box send the video on the tv and the box send the sound on the home cinema. And also with an RJ-45 (Ethernet) plug because wifi is really a pain for large files streaming. All the media will be stream from a nas ( in case that make a difference for the model)

thank you for your time

DTS Passthrough issues (AC3 is fine), Shield TV

EDIT: Fixed the problem by rooting and editing audio_policy.conf to allow DTS.

My nVidia Shield is hooked up to the TV directly (HDMI 2.0) running 4k 60Hz. My TV has optical/SPDIF out to my old receiver (Denon AVR-889), and the Audio menu set to "RAW" output.

I am able to passthrough Dolby Digital (AC3) without a problem, but DTS tracks will not work at all. Depending on the method, either complete silence or noise. This is true in XMBC, Plex, Archos Player, and the stock Video Player.

Here is what puzzles me:

  • Using a Windows PC instead of the Shield in the same setup, with the same files, will passthrough DTS without a problem. This tells me the TV and receiver are both capable of passing and processing a DTS signal.
  • The Shield connected directly to the receiver via HDMI will play DTS fine (I would use this but my receiver isn't 4K capable, only 1080p).

Is there a fundamental difference to how a Windows PC and Android device passthrough DTS? I am stumped to why it doesn't work. I've contacted support and they don't know either. Any input would be much appreciated!

Removing bloatware on UK Sony Bravia

Have any UK redditors had any luck removing some of the preinstalled junk apps on Sony Bravia Android TVs? I'd especially like to uninstall the useless "ad" apps urging you to install Mubi etc, while keeping the UK on demand apps (channel 4, ITV, iPlayer, Amazon, Netflix) and Youview.

Seems like some posts here recommend uninstalling Sony Select but I have a feeling that will remove a whole lot of the good stuff that appears in the Sony apps row.

Thanks!

edit: Have tried taking the steps of disabling Sony Select and Sony Shelf.

  • It does not seem to be possible to disable either Sony Select or Sony Shelf - only to force stop them.
  • Force stopping Sony Select on its own doesn't have a visible effect.
  • Stopping Sony Shelf totally removed the Featured Apps row, including iPlayer, All4, ITV, Demand5 and Youview.

Digital TV then becomes accessible only via the "inputs" row, and, as /u/SirSmokesAlott points out below you can configure the Discover menu to access all the Sony exclusive apps on the TV. The Discover menu is surprisingly configurable, and for browsing/channel surfing, may well be better than the Leanback UI.

The main issue with the whole approach is that the Leanback UI is effectively neutered, and apps and features (including basic TV functionality) become far less accessible and discoverable. For family use, your mileage may vary.

For what it's worth, simply resetting the unit seemed to speed the up, but I still haven't found a designed way to remove bloat while maintaining a decent UK Leanback experience.
