I'm looking for the best application for my Nvidia Shield that will let me add movie sources from my external harddrive, and then fetch posters, info, and other metadata. Basically I want it to look like Plex, but be native so it's straight from my hard drive (I've noticed you can't use the shield as a server, otherwise I would just use Plex)

I'm using Archos currently then using VLC as the playback application once I select it. I wanna hear from everyone if there's better ones out there.

Has anyone come across an Android music app that works well. Most seem to be for touch screens and don't work well on a tv.

When i do a voice search for say Whiplash, according to the promo videos I should get a card with info about the movie and different ways to watch it, below that the cast members etc. I had that for a very very short period of time but now i get no info, no cast, just a line for each app that has a result.

Anyone else have this happen and know what i need to do to fix it? I really liked the info cards and being given the different ways to watch.

I have noticed with my SHIELD Android TV that occasionally I will have no connectivity, if I scroll to my network it will have the no connection message. Restarting the SHIELD takes care of this, but it's super annoying. SHIELD is connected to a switch on my entertainment stand, which is connected to my main router/switch upstairs all via cat5e. I don't know if this is a DHCP issue or something else but it appears to happen after device has been in standby. Anyone else having similar issues or suggestions? I don't have a static IP set for the device, and my router handles DHCP. 5 port switch it's hooked to directly doesn't appear to be having any issues with other devices.

What are the best apps to install on my android tv. Both in the play store and from other sources. I like watching streaming stuff and playing games. I'm not in the USA or UK so Netflix and Hulu are not options for me.

I'm thinking of getting the HDHomerun Prime as a replacement for my Comcast cable box and then have it streamed to my TV through Live Channels on my Nexus Player.

The Prime looks like the only one that supports cablecard, but doesn't list HD as a feature. What resolution does it actually stream at? If anyone has done this setup before, is it worth doing?

My gf and I love to watch Shark Tank together. The idea is for me to record a fake pitch, and insert it during the show. I have a friend who does some video editing on the side who will help me with the shoot, I just need some advice on what android box to buy and what program to use to play the proposal clip?

I want to do it in the middle of the episode, so I'm looking for an android box that has HDMI in & HDMI out - so it does throughput. I an connect the android box to my TV set up and she won't be able to see it. Sometime during the middle of the Shark Tank episode I want to trigger my proposal video to play.

Any advice?

I have Prime Video working using a link from a post a few days ago. Wondering if anyone has had any luck with the Music app. I've tried side loading with both the apk pulled from my phone and from an apk site. No luck either time.

It seems like 2016 is primed to be the year for 4K to start making a splash. Sure, the TV sets have been available for a couple years now, but there's been very little content to go with it. Of course with Netflix, Amazon Prime and others dabbling with 4K, it seems like it's only a matter of time before Google Play does as well. The only issue with that though is that they currently have no first party devices capable of playing HEVC content on your TV.

Obviously, the Nvidia Shield is already capable of HEVC decoding, and is able to take advantage of Netflix's 4K offerings, but the device is still a little on the pricy side, and likely offers features that the average media junky isn't interested in, most notably the gaming. It seems like the market is ripe for an Android TV device that is $99-$125 that is capable of handling 4K, and the Nexus Player seems like the obvious choice to scratch that itch. Do you think we'll see something announced soon, or do you think Google is going to let someone else take a crack at it?

I'm trying to put the dreamcast bios files in the internal drive of the nvidia shield tv , for the reicast emulator

i connected the shieldtv to the mac using the micro usb cable , using apps like ifunbox and idisk they don't see the shield

when i had the ouya i could just put the file on flash drive and transfer to the internal drive, i don't see that option here and i don't have a sd card

i was trying to avoid via vpn or torrent, i don't have any other android device to transfer from

I just got a new Shield today and I'm having some issues with it.

Firstly, the HDMI CEC volume controls don't work. I am able to control the UI with my TV remote, but the volume buttons on the controller do nothing when the system volume controlls are set to HDMI CEC mode.

Secondly, the black levels seem to be getting output as limited RGB instead of full RGB (0-255) without any way to change it. This would be a minor annoyance if my TV detected it as limited RGB and properly adjusted, but it doesn't. I'm not sure if this is the fault of the TV (Panasonic plasma), or the Android TV device, or what.

Has anyone else had these issues? Besides these annoyances, I'm really enjoying my purchase!

The shield's specs says it supports BLE or bluetooth low energy "smart bluetooth" standard. I'm hoping this could act as a nice relay that could help me remotely lock and unlock my front door without having to buy the $80 KEVO plus gateway.

I upgraded from the nexus player and will only by using the Shield for TV purposes. That's why I want to disable the shield hub as it is wasting space. Also want to move netflix with the rest of the apps. Do I need to root to do this? or is there another way?
