How to use the USB ports for a connected Computer?

Hey I hope there is a solution to this. I'm using a new 4k 43in Sony tv as my all in one media center. It has both my gaming rig and work Surface pro attached to it via HDMI ports. It works flawlessly as a monitor in my opinion. However I was hoping to figure out how to attach a few USB hubs to it and really expand my shared storage.

The problem is that the TV acting like the computer it is uses the USBs for itself, the other computers cannot detect the connected USB. I can't seem to find a solution. The TV wants to use it to import media content and I want to use it to store working files from my Surface because its space is limited even with an micro sd. Anyone have an idea of what to do here? I don't believe I'm seeing any settings that would allow for this mode of use.

i'm really getting sick of the lack of checks on Play Store apps claiming to be compatible with Android TV - I've run into 4 apps that say they're compatible but aren't this week alone.

Does anyone else have this issue or is it just me?

2560x1080 21:9 UltraWide support?

I just got a Shield TV and am trying to use it with my 29" LG UltraWide monitor, which has a resolution of 2560x1080. The only options I'm allowed in the resolution menu are 1920x1080, leaving me with black bars on either side of my display. Is there any way I can make Android TV work with my monitor's resolution? Official options preferred but root-based workarounds are welcome too.

Philips Android TV - Youtube App - Add device option missing

I recently purchased a Philips Android Smart TV with the model number 49PUS7100/12. I've updated the firmware to the latest version and now I want to control the Youtube app from the phone. I get on the Youtube app the icon to send to the TV, but whenever I do that I get a connection error. I've tried to Add TV from the settings but the TV Youtube app does not have this feature. Any ideas?

TEST RESULTS: Converting Fire TV apps with APK4TV

So: Last night I worked on running the few apps I have from the Fire TV through the APK4TV tool posted on here. Unfortunately the news isn't great.

In theory it should solve the problem with FireTV apks crashing due to problems with how the apps are signed by resigning them for Android TV leanback. HOWEVER, the APK4TV tool isn't able to fix the problem. It throws up an error no matter what app I run through it (IkonoTV, WatchESPN, HBO Go for Fire TV, Netflix, WatchABC etc). Apparently the tool cannot resign apks that have been signed for TV use already (in this case the Fire TV).

So, that's frustrating. I'm going to experiment with the old apps for Google TV. Maybe there's something useful there. More to come.

EDIT: Just ran a few Google TV apps through it, same story :/

Is Android TV plus side-loaded apps a reasonable option?

As a Canadian cord-cutter, there aren't a lot of good options out there for me and my family. Roku has almost no Canadian content, and Apple TV and Chromecast, while fairly flexible when combined with a phone or tablet, are cumbersome and don't really pass the wife test. (The wife likes the ATV, but hates casting anything).

What's the Nexus TV like when working with side-loaded apps? There is a lot of Canadian content available on standard Android; if I could get access to those apps on a set top box, it would be ideal.

Do most side loaded apps work properly? Do developers ever explicitly block Android TV users (as opposed to simply not developing for it)?

I assume that most side-loaded apps don't work properly with the standard remote, are there decent mouse-emulation type options? The wife will not go for a keyboard option, but a wireless trackpad + remote might be doable, is this possible?

Mupen64 - Toggle Multiple Controllers On?

Set this emulator up last night, works great. Only real problem I have run into is toggling a second controller on in settings. There is a little switch that reads as "off" and I assume with touchscreen its as easy as swiping to the right to turn it on. Is there a way to turn it on with the remote/controller on the big screen? Thanks.

Boot Sony TV straight to TV

Hey guys, last week I bought a Sony KDL50W808C with android tv on it. Loving the TV, picture quality is marvelous and I couldn't be happier. When I get home this weekend I will try disabling some bloatware on the homescreen as stated in some other thread here in this subreddit. The only issue I'm having is that I'd like the tv to boot straight to the actual TV view, the DVBT broadcast, as any normal tv would do. This is just because my parents will be the primary users of this tv, and is like it to be as simple as possible. Any tips? Would installing an alternate launcher such as HALauncher solve this issue? Thanks in advance

FXNOW activating with Comcast xfinity

So I was trying to active FXNOW on my Nexus Player, and Comcast was not listed as a provider. I found this workaround on the fireTV subreddit. I tried it multiple times to no avail. Today I decided to give it another go, and when I launched the FXNOW app, it was magically activated. So the workaround must have worked with some delay. Just thought I would share in case anyone is in the same boat w/ Comcast.

So what exactly does android tv do?

I'm going to be purchasing a new home quite soon and am interested in buying a pretty big (75"+) tv for my new living room.

Can someone tell me the benefits of buying an android enabled panel?

I think something I'd really enjoy would be being able to turn my TV on and see my To Do list/appointments for the day; weather/forecast outside; emails for work; etc in some sort of dashboard or homescreen set up.

Does Android TV offer that natively?

Thanks guys!

Totally new and I have lots of questions.

Hi all

Going to grab a box this week and hook it up to my Samsung tv and I have lots of questions Im hoping you can help me with.

Im getting this box http://www.amazon.ca/RioRand-Amlogic-Android-Miracast-Airplay/dp/B00SD1FBIY

Starting off cheap, since I don't know anything about this. The person I'm buying it from will program everything for me.

  1. I'm just wondering what the up time on live channels is? Way back I had the Dishnet boxes which would go down when there were major UFC/Boxing live evens and I would have to wait for a new code.

  2. I'm mostly in it for sports, will I have issues if i do not have a US IP (I'm in Canada)?

  3. Will I get Fox/CBS/ABC/NBC/CNN, in other words standard cable channels?

  4. Do the rules on this subforum allow me to even ask the above questions?

  5. Im in it for live tv, is the android box a good option?

  6. Currently I have cable in the house but to add another "receiver" (as its called here), is like 150$ so Im thinking why dont I just buy this instead. I am assuming I can get more channels on here then I do with standard cable (which in Canada is about 80 channels)?

  7. How is the quality?

  8. I believe I have 30Mbps speed, will this suffice?

Thanks

Google Play Music Not Loading Today's Biggest Hits

On the Listen Now tab of the Google Play Music app, Today's Biggest Hits isn't loading. All of the other Listen Now options are loading just fine. When I select it, all it does is show the background image that typically loads behind the playlists.

I checked Google Play Music on both my phone and computer and they both load Today's Biggest Hits just fine. I can even cast one of those playlists to Android TV but I can't access them directly through the TV app.

This problem exists for both the Shield TV and Nexus Player. I've tried resetting the app by clearing data/cache. I've tried disabling and enabling the app. I even tried a factory reset of the boxes, but the problem continues to persist. The Google Play Store shows that the app is up-to-date.

UPDATE (12/9/15): I stumbled upon the cause of the issue today when browsing Google Play Music on Chrome. When you click on a "mood," it loads up a list of playlists that you can choose from. However, there are some "moods" where the playlists show up as a grid with pictures of album covers instead of a simple text list. It's THESE "moods" that won't load on Android TV whereas the text lists load perfectly fine.

Mood List

Mood Grid

Looks like Google will have to update the app for Android TV to properly display the "moods" that have grids instead of lists.

As a workaround, I've been adding the "mood" playlists to my library and then I'm able to access them on Android TV under the "My Stations" page.

TIL the Nvidia Shield has built in Twitch broadcast, recording, and screenshot functions

Apparently if you hold the home button, an overlay appears that lets you broadcast to Twitch, set Auto or manual recording, and take a screenshot. I hadn't seen any mention of this ever, so I thought it was a cool feature.
