Daydreaming.

Lets see the. Have been on the hunt for a decent daydream app but haven't found much beyond slide shows.

Also, if anyone knows of any good lowlight ones like the "weather/time/misc" screen saver the roku has. http://www.rokuguide.com/images/cloc-screensaver-screenshot.png

HDHomerun/Tablo

Anybody use the Tablo w/ their Android TV device? My HDHomerun is giving too much trouble. Tried everything on the SD forums. Lots of other people seem to have the issue. Both cable and OTA users. Going to sell my connect and try an extend. Wondering if anyone has issues like these w/ the Tablo. Anyone try both? Preferably OTA.

Is your device affected by the Android 6.0 brightness bug? Hardware-accelerated video appears brighter than it should be (possibly running on 16-235 colorspace)

Here's a few threads describing the problem on several devices, including televisions and the Nexus Player. Some people even say it affects the Nexus 6p smartphone as well.

https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/nexus/B9w14NuBv5U

http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-player/help/brightness-playing-videos-marshmallow-t3220531

Does anybody see this issue? It doesn't affect Kodi v15 since Kodi has its own display implementation so you can only see the issue on apps like Youtube which run Hardware-Accelerated all the time or by default.

The only workaround is turning hardware-acceleration off in your player, which can be done in MX Player or the Archos Player but not Youtube.

If you see the problem on your device, let Google know to fix it when they roll out 6.0.1!

Edit: here's the only bug report on the Android issue tracker I could find. Let's star it and other issues to give it more attention

https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=188667

EDIT: 11/10 - The aforementioned bug has just been marked as assigned

MythTV setup questions

I have a retina iMac connected by ethernet directly to my router. It also has mysql already running. I figured even though I use this machine daily, it would work as a MythTV backend. I downloaded the MacPorts version by mistake and the setup couldn't find my mysql even though the ip address and passwords were correct. I removed that version and installed the regular backend version and tried to run it. It definitely found mysql since all the tables got configured but the setup won't run. It just flashes a blank screen and quits. Not sure if I should go back to the MacPorts version or what. Any ideas?

Does anyone have Bittorrent Sync working well on Android TV?

I was able to sideload bittorrent sync but I'm unable to control it.

I really want to keep a directory of my PSP game saves in sync between my Samsung S6 Edge and My NVIDIA shield. I use Bittorrent Sync to sync other directories between my phone and my tablet, so I thought this would be the way to go, but even though I've been able to sideload the apk to my nvidia shield, once it's launched I can't add a directory. Does anyone have any luck getting Bittorrent Sync or other similar folder syncing apps working on Android TV?

I just made a system update to my TV

I have Philips 6500 Android TV I just upgraded it to 5.1.1 but it is not booting up. Ambilight is working but no image in screen. I don't know what's the deal. Maybe I should just wait. Because in phones when Android upgrades it optimizes some apps. I don't know if it is the same in TVs. I'm looking forward to any kind of support.

Just figured out it wasn't the case TV was actually working but there was no image on the screen. Screen image came in after some play with remote. I don't know what's the case but that happens sometimes. Image is not coming right in.

Huawei M321 - English option?

Picked one of these up when I was in China but it turns out there's no option to switch the Ui to English! Any thoughts on what I could do with it? I'm happy to flash it to stock Android if possible but I'm not sure how to go about it, there isn't much info out there on this device.

What are You Playing or Using? (Nov. 2015)

I thought it would be nice to see what everyone is using on a frequent basis as more apps become available. I'm currently using Gamestream and Plex more than anything else, but I really enjoy Pluto.tv and caststreams. I'm starting to get into Kodi a little more (I really haven't touched XBMC since the OG Xbox days!).

Canadian Live TV?

Thanks!

Is android TV for me?

Cut was cut years ago. I have about 4tb of videos on WDcloud devices (the cheap $100 ones). I have used WDTVs for years to play these. Since my videos are in different formats, they decode MKVs, AVI, MP4s, etc. Well, the WDTVs have died and their lack of flexibility for anything else makes me think I want to move on. I don't usually stream, but my daughters are doing more youtube and of course pandora. We may get HBO go or Netflix in the future so android tv was suggested to me.

1 - Will android tv play my files? Do I just point it to my movies, series and kids folders and go from there or do I need plex or something? Is there a cost for those (one time I'm fine with but I am trying to avoid monthly costs).

2 - am I ok with just the nexus player? $50 bucks is doable and I can get 3 for each of my tvs. I am worried about stream 3 at once though. I used to have one ethernet'ed and stream 2 but the nexus doesn't have an ethernet. Will that be a problem? I saw the 199 nividia on here a bunch. I'm thinking I may try one Nexus player and then move that to the master bedroom if Android TV works for my family and then get the more powerful Shield for the main tv next year.

Any other ideas/advice.

Best set top box around $100?

I'm fully overwhelmed by the options. I currently use a Sony Bluray player, but it's on the fritz. I haven't used a physical BR disc in ages, so I can drop that feature. What I use it for is: Netflix, Pandora, Hulu, and sometimes throwing videos or music up on a flash drive to stream. I'd really like it to stream content from the network and if I had my druthers, it would support 4K and HEVC / h.265 as a means of future-proofing (ish). It has to have an optical audio-out port. I'm tech-ish, so a I don't mind putting a little work into it (rooting, sideloading apps, whatever), but in the end, it needs to be usable by non-techy people.

What will do the best job? The Matricom G-Box Q gets high marks (for a reason, I'm sure), but if I can spend half as much on an M8 box for the same functionality, I'd rather do that. The WeTek OpenELEC seems solid - and comes with a tuner - but the specs aren't great and I don't know that it will do 4K/HEVC.

There's probably other hardware options I'm missing.

FYI: the bug with the playstore not letting you use ethernet to download games/apps has been fixed.

just tested this with Dead Effect 2 and Dungeon Quest works perfectly again :D

if you haven't updated the play store then go to settings and tap About...it will update manually.
