Here is a list of the apps I have successfully installed on my box:

I had to sideload this 2, but they work fine:

For what it's worth, I'm in Brazil and all the apps are working without registration or any tricks.

Mi/Oreo, Do channels ever update?

I use Youtube, Twitch, VLC, Neverthink and Spotify.

None of these show anything meaningful in their channels. The youtube/subscriptions channel show three clips I watched two weeks ago. Twitch I suppose shows stuff they want to push, but nothing that I am subscribed to. Kind of like I am getting some kind of "defaults", it doesn't change day to day.

Play Next only shows that blue dog icon.

So, do they work for anyone else?

(I have a hardware firewall that may be interfering, but before I start tinkering with that I want to know if this feature actually works yet.)

But basically the problem is I start watching channels and after changing categories and watching a couple of channels as on the video I select a channel it doesn't play it freezes goes black and then comes back to the app and suddenly closes and gets to the main home of mi box Anyone else experiencing this?

I tested the following:

1 my box has this problem 2 I ordered a new one for my parents and have the same problem it's brand new and just set it up today

Is this a m3u list problem? Is this an app problem? Is this a mi box problem (before update didn't have this problem)?

Box that can be accessed remotely for my parents.

Hi all,

Some info first: Here's the thread I posted yesterday on r/PleX for reference: https://www.reddit.com/r/PleX/comments/8usxh4/what_solution_for_my_parents_to_access_my_plex/
I want to install some kind of htpc at my parents house, easy to use. I want to be able to "feed it" media content from outside (I live far away), and media need to be stored locally, as their internet connection is very slow. This second requirement make it difficult to run a Plex client, as it mostly only support streaming (it would require to transcode way down in quality).

So now I'm considering other option. Hence my post here.

Question: What are the possibilities for Android TV (Nvidia, Mibox...) for remote access ? I picture something like a Mi Box running Kodi, with an external hard drive attached, that I could send media to from outside (not from the same network). I could be some sync program (btsync, syncthings) or ftp, or something else.

Can you guys send some experience feedback on this ?

How do you guys deal with managing both? Do you disable Cast features on your TV and dumb down it down and use your atv box or do you use both?

Mibox with Oreo - Anyone used a USB TV tuner yet?

Now that Oreo is out, it should support a USB tv tuner in the live channels app right? Has anyone given this a try yet? I use a projector for my main tv so I need a way to get over-the-air TV for my local channels and this would be great.

Having audio problems in Plex on Xiaomi Mi Box with Oreo

I’ve finally received the Android Oreo update on my Xiaomi Mi Box. My AV receiver is old, so I use the SPDIF output from the Mi Box to the SPDIF in on the receiver.

Before the Oreo upgrade DTS and Dolby Digital were not possible even with the Pass-through Auto option enabled in Plex and Mi Box set to output RAW on SPDIF. However, DTS and Dolby Digital worked in Kodi 17.6.

Now if I set the Mi Box to Sound -> Surround “Always” and Plex Pass-through to Auto to force the device to pass-through digital audio it works for both Dolby Digital and DTS without transcoding. However, I get no audio on regular programming with AAC sound.

If I switch Mi Box to Auto then AAC audio works, but no audio on Dolby Digital and DTS. Same if I turn off the Plex Pass-through Audio option to No. Neither Mi Box or Plex have detail settings what to pass-through and what not, like Kodi has.

Any idea if this is something that can be addressed by Plex update to add additional options instead of just “Auto” pass-through? Or this is something that should be fixed by a future Mi Box update?

[Mi Box] Any users with Samsung sound bars able to get Netflix 5.1 after Oreo update?

I think I’ve managed to narrow down my issue at https://www.reddit.com/r/AndroidTV/comments/8ty2ig/netflix_51_apparently_officially_unsupported_on/?st=JJ05DVMZ&sh=da5007a6 to Samsung (and possibly Yamaha) sound bars.

I’ve discovered that when the Shield was updated to Nougat, users with the same sound bar as me (HW-K950) experienced the exact same problem.

More detailed findings here: https://xiaomi.eu/community/threads/xiaomi-mdz-16-ab-oreo-update-build-2116-received.44396/page-10#post-424317

For the record, Xiaomi support (or affiliated) has been terrible.

I’m awaiting a follow up call from Netflix this evening, who are my last hope at this point (not counting on Xiaomi). It could be that Nvidia, ironically, end up saving the day though (see detailed findings).

PSA: NordVPN app introduced auto-connect option when ethernet is enabled

Previously it used to have the option to automatically connect to the VPN only if the Android TV was connected to internet with wifi, now it added an option to auto-connect even if it's connected with ethernet.

You have to enable it in the apps options.
