I have a cheap Mi smart TV. It is not an Android TV, but the underlying OS is Android 6. I was looking for a good video player. The inbuilt video player is more than capable, but I was having some issues with sound. Playing 5.1 audio through stereo speakers results in the same old 'quiet dialogue, loud effects' problem. I tried Kodi, which had better sound, but still not that great when it came to range compression. Enter Archos - the 'night mode' is incredible. Does exactly what I needed. Dialogue are aboslutely clear, and for TV speakers, the sound quality is fine. So far I haven't had any issues with it. It has been playing 1080p 10 bit x265 without any hiccups. The cpu usage is slightly higher than Kodi, but nothing to complain about. I haven't installed any codec packs, seems like I won't be needing them.

Kodi now seems a bit overkill for just playing local media. Archos is now my main video player. The beautiful library layout is just an added bonus.

I used to have a Android TV that I could Chromecast YouTube videos to instantly, just by pressing the Chromecast icon on the video on my phone, and this instantly opened the app on my TV.

I now have a 'Smart Projector' (Yaufey Mini), and would like to do the same thing. The projector has android on it, but I can't figure out how I can use it to receive Chromecast signals. Sending them is easy, but I want to be able to have a YouTube video on my phone, then cast it to the projector. There are loads of laggy screen sharing apps, but when I used Chromecast with my TV it wasn't screen sharing as such, because this would actually open the app on the TV.

How can I do this? It seems like it should be possible, as all these devices have android?

Hi, recently bought an Mi box 3 from Aliexpress. I received an update right after switching it on first time to build 1901. Now the google play services keeps crashing every few seconds, so I cannot use play store or play music or any app to do with Google. I tried removing account and re-adding, factory resetting the box. How do I fix this? Thanks.

I have a non-smart LG screen in my room that doesn't support DTS audio. So if I plug in my hard drive and try to play a movie with DTS, an error message would pop up "DTS audio not supported ".

I've been reading a lot about the MiBox and it seems to support DTS but I'm not sure if that's how it works. If my LG screen can't playback DTS because of a hardware limitation, how would the MiBox be of any help in this case?

I actually have a Plex server running but since the screen can't connect to WiFi, I have to plug in a hard drive to the USB port to watch my movies.

It would be great if someone can point to the right direction here. Also, what other options that support DTS are there other than the MiBox?

Connected to my gaming pc via ethernet, does the Shield perform significantly faster? It costs $200 more than the Mi Box in my country. Main uses: watching 1080p movies and occasional gaming. I never use streaming services because my connection is very slow.

I currently use Netflix, Amazon Prime and Plex.

Next week we are off on holiday and therefore I bought a 500GB hard disk expecting to be able to offline content and watch it back when away - more than likely to have poor internet.

The AndroidTV apps seem to be built not to have offline capability

Is there anything I should look at other than VLC / Kodi?

Hey guys, hoping someone can point me in the direction of a setting I'm missing here.

My Sony Bravia supported the iPlayer 4K streams, I know this because I watched the Blue Planet / Earth thing that was on there, and it was defintely on this TV as I don't have another 4K TV in the house!

Since factory resettings the TV (for other reasons), the app will now longer register as "compatible" so the world cup streams don't show a UHD option sadface.

I had a similar issue where the Amazon prime app wouldn't detect my TV was 4K / HDR compatible, until I set the picture setting to "Standard", however this hasn't worked with iplayer.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I just purchased my lovely Shield TV a week ago and I'm loving it!

However I have a real concern about security

I noticed that most of the apps are requiring way too much intrusive permissions that the app won't ever need

I'm trying to stay safe by using only apps from Google Play Store but I still kinda don't want to miss the fun of it

So I'm curious what's your security practices on your Android TVs?

I installed Eset Antivirus but not really sure if it's effective or not

What do you think?

I currently have a Fire TV and am looking for a new streaming box that will let me watch Amazon Video and Google Play content. So far the only device I've found that searches both platforms and allows purchase is the Roku. Is the global search on nVidia Shield able to show content from both provides as well as price? Any chance someone could show me a screen shot? I'm having a heck of a time finding current screen shots or video or the search feature in it's current state.

Ours sits on our dresser and went to sleep when closing the drawer. Checked all the cords for a loose connection and couldn't duplicate it. Also having some random bt and wifi issues today out of nowhere.
