How do I connect my phone (as a remote etc.) to my Mi Box?

During the initial setup of my box I was prompted to setup my phone over Wifi/Bluetooth and I began the process but there was a hiccup along the way which forced me to leave this step incomplete. Now that my box is setup and running perfectly otherwise, when I attempt to setup my device (Samsung Galaxy S8), using the Google app it doesn't recognize the box on my phone. (I do have WiFi and Bluetooth turned on.)

Sidebar: I'm entirely new to Android TV and a fairly novice user of apps that require pairing and the like. It seems like it should be a simple fix but I simply couldn't work it out.

How can I get DD+ 5.1 though optical without manually converting files?

Most TV episodes from legal streaming sources are on Dolby Digital Plus. My reciever doesn't have HDMI and I don't want to listen to a 2.0 downmix.

How can I get the 5.1 audio without using a video converter (it would take its time on my old 2 core PC)? Is this possible? Any help would be appreciated.

If you buy/rent a 4k movie on Google Play Movies, go and watch it on Youtube to make sure it actually is 4k.

I rented Baby Driver in UHD tonight, and I swore it was 1080p. I was talking to Google Support, and they swore it was 4k. I know what 4k looks like, dangit lol. They told me to go to youtube and look under my purchases, and there I could verify that it was streaming in 4k. Sure enough, the highest available resolution was 1080p.

Friends can't cast their Netflix to my Android TV?

With a Chromecast, my friends could open up Netflix on their phone, select a show, then cast it to my chromecast.

I now have an Android TV instead. Now, when my friends click the cast button on their phone, instead of casting the show, it just brings up the profile selection screen on the Netflix app of my Android TV. It asks then to log onto one of my profile, instead of just casting from their profile.

How do you stop this?

Nougat beta for Mi Box

I recently sideloaded the Nougat preview for the Mi Box.

However, after installing the beta, the Mi Box thinks that an older security update is available for the device (Patch Date July 2017).

And when it installs, I get an error.

Is there any way for me to roll back to 6.0, or the original firmware?

(A factory reset won’t help, because it keeps Nougat. And I can’t use recovery mode, because the remote won’t function when in that state.

[Help] Trying to find a decently priced Android TV box that meets a few requirements

Sup - I currently have a 2nd gen FireTV (not stick). It's been great but I'd love to use Android TV's interface and flexibility instead of Amazon's skin and simplified remote.

We currently use the FireTV for:

  • Netflix
  • Hulu
  • Kodi (SPMC)

We don't really use Amazon's video or music services even though we have Prime. I don't like the interface, the content is lacking, and usually they have dumb combinations of seasons (sweet I can watch season 2 and 7!).

I'd love to use it for local TV. I have an antenna, but the FireTV doesn't support USB tuners natively so we have to change sources right now. It would be great if I could access the local OTA channels using the same remote/box that we use for Netflix, Hulu, etc. So a box with a built in tuner or at least support for an external USB tuner would be awesome!

We've been thinking of trying Sling or Vue so it would need to run those (which I think they all do?).

Bonus points if it's powerful enough to play emulators. I have an Xbox 360 wired controller, an 8bitdo NES30 Pro, and a G3s so if any of those would work fairly easily, that could be fun. Up to SNES/Genesis is plenty, no need for more graphic intensive games.

I know that this is reaching, but something that is known to be updated often would be nice. Or something that has an unlockable bootloader... I'm pretty familiar with rooting, roms, recoveries, etc. if that helps anything.

Ethernet port would be nice, but wifi-only should suffice also.

Damn, that ended up longer than I expected... so any recommendations that meet most/all of those points without being ridiculously pricey?

Thanks!

EDIT: Forgot to mention, I don't have a 4K TV and don't plan on having one any time soon, so 1080p is plenty for me!

Logitech Harmony users... how do you use voice search?

This is my biggest hangup when it comes to switching to a Logitech Harmony remote.

I used a Harmony back in the day when 17-year-old-me bought the Harmony 525 for my parents. I digress...

I want to switch to a Harmony to control my TV, Nvidia Shield, stereo receiver, Chromecast Audio (for music listening through the receiver without turning the TV on), and some Philips Hue lights. But I absolutely do not want to give up voice search, which I use all the time.

TL;DR Is there an elegant way to keep all of my remotes/controllers in a cabinet somewhere & use only the Harmony whilst keeping voice search?

Movies Anywhere released for Android TV

It's basically Disney Movies Anywhere, but added to the mix are 20th Century Fox, Warner Bros., Sony Pictures, and Universal Pictures along with Disney. Basically, much expanded content, and this will allow for more device parity. You can link your Vudu, Google Play Movies, iTunes, and Amazon Video accounts to it.

2 questions about 55PUS6551 android TV.

Hello Guys.

The first question is about delay when using jbl flip3 as bluetooth speaker.

I am getting like 0.25sec delay, no matter what is the source on TV.

Is this acutally caused by bluetooth? Any oversteps?

Second question is about twitch.tv app on Android.tv

As you know, you have to authorize through twitch.tv/activate, I simply have to repeat this procedure everyday. Have any1 facing the similar issue? Any fixes?

Thanks in advance

Using Tasker+Harmony to prevent soundbar timeout?

I have a Nvidia Shield Android TV box, with a Harmony Hub, and also a Polk Signa S1 soundbar. I have a Harmony activity set up to turn all these things on. If I just watch continuously, everything is fine. However, the soundbar has an auto shutoff "feature", so that if I pause a show and walk away, after a certain amount of time, the soundbar powers off. The soundbar doesn't appear to have any setting to disable the auto shutoff feature.

I was thinking about whether I could install tasker on my Shield, or IFTTT, and make it to where tasker knows if I've paused a show, that it send a quick mute and unmute command to the soundbar after, say, every 5 minutes it's paused. This way, presumably, the soundbar would never shutoff until I manually turned it off.

I have never used tasker, so I don't know if this is even possible (especially for it to know when a show is paused). Does anyone know if something like this is possible, or have some other solution I am overlooking?

Sling app broke Mi Box

Installed Sling on a Mi Box and now can't do anything. Box is unresponsive to the remote and Sling starts up immediately on boot when doing a power cycle.

Can't get back to home to uninstall or factory reset the MiBox, and can't figure out how to factory reset it from the remote.

Ideas? Note: I'm over a thousand miles away and trying to do this for my mother over the phone. She doesn't have a keyboard available, like I read on some other posts. I told her not to get Sling, because Sling is stupid and apparently they can't code an AndroidTV app.
